Signing the biggest contract takes priority over winning. It’s why these players bolt to other teams . They follow the money.
Thanks Bob. I hope others will listen to you better than they have to me. Dak’s contracts, first, are entirely Jerry’s fault for letting him reach the end of a deal twice and franchising him, which is a sure way to blow up a salary….see Kirk Cousins, one of the richest players in NFL history. Dak’s contracts have never limited the team from doing whatever they want. Jerry did not create cap space because he didn’t want to spend that money in free agency, ever. I still say we will see these things happen when he’s ready to pay Lamb and Parsons. Meanwhile, we don’t improve the run game or the middle of our defense the way we could have that would make us a true contender.According to NFL writer K.D.Drummond, the Dallas Cowboys could clear over $60 million in cap space this week without extending Dak Prescott’s contract by making moves with other’s guys’ contracts and using Dak’s current contract. How? According to Drummond:
“The Cowboys aren’t beholden to anything here, though clearly a long-term agreement with Prescott would be the best way to create the most additional cap space. Remember though, Dak Prescott currently has two void years on his deal and like what they did with Zack Martin, they likely have language built in to add one or two more void years, allowing them to convert Prescott’s salary into a restructure bonus, adding more cap space.”
Again…all that WITHOUT extending Dak Prescott’s contract. They could make additional moves with Lamb, Diggs, Steele and cut LVE among others. This just drives me crazy when we hear SJ rail about the cap restrictions that 31 other teams don’t seem to have trouble handling. The Cowboys either chose NOT to seriously pursue FA or are just flat incompetent.

Fine. Tell Dak you either help us out by taking $45 mil/season and remain a Cowboy for the next 4-5 years, or we make you a post-June 1 cut, take financial hits these next 2 years but we move on without you.Of course but that’s not reality in the NFL.
It’s not the players responsibility to balance the budget. They should seek as much as they can. Their careers can end on the next snap. And teams can dump them at their own discretion. If they mismanage or over pay that’s on them not the player.
Bottomline with a quarter billion Salary Cap a few million more to secure your Franchise QB shouldn’t make a huge difference. It becomes more of a talking point.
That’s fine but I can’t imagine Dak willing to do that when he can play out this season and then pursue FA next year .Fine. Tell Dak you either help us out by taking $45 mil/season and remain a Cowboy for the next 4-5 years, or we make you a post-June 1 cut, take financial hits these next 2 years but we move on without you.
Because winning a championship is what he has repeatedly said is his ultimate goal, plus winning a championship would bring him eternal fame and fortune he simply can't imagine. It's very simple to understand. That’s fine but I can’t imagine Dak willing to do that when he can play out this season and then pursue FA next year .
Fans get too worked up over these contracts .
Why in the world wouid Dak give up tens of millions ? Just to help him win a championship. . Fans just don’t get it . Lol
Of course it’s his ultimate goal but there’s no guarantee in winning a championship.Because winning a championship is what he has repeatedly said is his ultimate goal, plus winning a championship would bring him eternal fame and fortune he simply can't imagine. It's very simple to understand.
And Dak will walk and test FA market in 2025.Fine. Tell Dak you either help us out by taking $45 mil/season and remain a Cowboy for the next 4-5 years, or we make you a post-June 1 cut, take financial hits these next 2 years but we move on without you.
It's not my job as a fan to care about the players' financial fortune, I only care about what can help my team win a championship. Why should average joe fans celebrate or be enthralled with multimillionaires filling up their pockets?Of course it’s his ultimate goal but there’s no guarantee in winning a championship.
You don’t give up tens of millions for the unknown they don’t have control.
Fans are more enthralled with that fame from winning championship than securing or expanding your financial fortune. The NFL is always a business first.
Don't agree..Fine. Tell Dak you either help us out by taking $45 mil/season and remain a Cowboy for the next 4-5 years, or we make you a post-June 1 cut, take financial hits these next 2 years but we move on without you.
We shouldn’t be . But we need to grasp the reality of the business of the league which we often try to look the other way. My point is that’s the players priority is seeking the best contract they can. Winning comes second. It's not my job as a fan to care about the players' financial fortune, I only care about what can help my team win a championship. Why should average joe fans celebrate or be enthralled with multimillionaires filling up their pockets?
You must stink at running a business.Don't agree..
Either he is the answer at QB or he's not.
If he is I couldn't care less what he is paid.
If he's not, then there is no point signing him for even $1.00 a season.
Wrong. And Dak will walk and test FA market in 2025.
You really believe that’s what Jethro is going to do?
If you want Dak to remain the price isn’t the deciding point . You either believe in him or not.
And if you do try and negotiate best you can accept he’s a top 10 caliber QB which warrants Market Price .
Wearing the Star on your helmet more than makes up any millions you give up to help the team. We all know it. Let's not act ignorant as if that is not true. Jerry seriously needs to get control of this "it's the market" ever ridiculously increasing position prices, especially for QBs. We see the results today: not anywhere close to enough money to keep a playoffs-capable team together.Of course it’s his ultimate goal but there’s no guarantee in winning a championship.

That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard yet.Wrong.
Jerry seriously needs to take control of his business and put his foot down. If players want to play for the Dallas Cowboys, they need to take fair contracts that work for both parties, especially since wearing the Star on your helmet brings more off-the-field perks than any other team on the face of this Earth. Take it or leave it. If you don't like it, someone else will take it and work with the team.
That was true decades ago playing for the Cowboys when players didn’t make crap basically part time jobs in the NFL.Wearing the Star on your helmet more than makes up any millions you give up to help the team. We all know it. Let's not act ignorant as if that is not true. Jerry seriously needs to get control of this "it's the market" ever ridiculously increasing position prices, especially for QBs. It's the best piece of business advice you will ever hear. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard yet.
I understand but it’s just not the reality of the NFL.It's the best piece of business advice you will ever hear.
