Dak had Beasley or Dez for 6 with 40 seconds to go!

The philosophy of how to win with a backup QB is broken I think. You have to take some risks because what usually leads to wins is big plays, on either side of the ball. I don't think our Defense has the horses to consistently dial up big plays currently, but the offense does with Dez. Yet philosophy wise we seem to let defenses plan Dez out of the game fairly regularly. If there's a problem with Garrett its that, not any of the culture stuff that people like to throw around. Sometimes you don't just take what's given you, sometimes you have to take what you want to take.
Garrett's conservative nature is the culture though, Romo routinely checks out of plays Garrett calls because he sees something better.

Its all about angles. The DB playing centerfield may very well have caught Beasley, hes quick but im not sure hed have the long speed to outrun that angle. Dez wasnt open until after Dak threw the ball according to what my eyes see.

Still likely a significant gain for Beas. But I dont blame the rook for being conservative there. We put Dak in a bad spot.

I recall a play early on, first quarter I think, where it looked like Dez (I think it was Dez) had beat the coverage on a post route and was a good five yards past the defender, wide open. I believe Dak was playing conservative, making quick reads and not seeing some downfield stuff. I don't recall him making many deep throws at all.

What an amazing finish this would have been. Beasley was open immediately and it would have been a pitch and catch score. Worst case scenario Beasley is caught around the 10 and we win on fg.

True enough. I bet we could go over every game ever played and find missed opportunities from every hall of fame qb. Much less a rook that played his first nfl game that mattered.

Just like last year, i'm betting that Dak is instructed to go with underneath throws. Same happened last year on several occasions where Weeden went for the check down when he had wide open receivers downfield.

It goes against what Garrett says, take what the defense gave us. In this case they gave them a wide open WR for a game winning TD. The giants knew by this point that they don't have to worry about down field passes, Garret's offense calls for all underneath throws.
Ok. So you think Dak saw these guys but wasn't allowed to throw to them?

We've both played football, right? What's it mean to you when a coach says 'get rid of the ball quickly and don't take a sack'? Because here's what I'd think when I hear stuff like that: "No ****?" Then I'd go out there and do what I'm supposed to do.

Nobody ever tries to hold the ball too long and take the sack, so telling them that isn't going to change what they do. They have a play. The play has routes. The routes are run by receivers. The open ones get the ball when the QB sees them. That's how it works. In this case, everything happens except the QB seeing it part. That's not on the play design or the route or the WR or the coaches. It's on the QB.

The incident occurred 33 years ago, when Bill Parcells was a neophyte in the coaching profession. It's too bad there weren't any television cameras around, because it must have been a priceless moment. After all, how often do you see Parcells, a legendary sideline screamer, on the receiving end of a stinging attack? It happened to Parcells at Hastings College in Nebraska, the first stop in his circuitous coaching career. He was only 23, just out of college, but he thought he was hot stuff. Then came the sideline blowup, which had a profound effect on him as a coach. Hastings, an NAIA school in the Nebraska College Conference, was playing Nebraska Wesleyan. Parcells, who coached the defense, had drilled his unit all week in preparation for Wesleyan's bootleg play. Wesleyan ran the bootleg every week, and scored with it every week. But this was going to be different. Parcells wasn't going to let it happen to his defense. Wesleyan got near the Hastings goal line, ran the bootleg and scored a touchdown, sparking a Parcells tirade.

He chewed out his safety, a kid named Jack Giddings, who got caught out of position. Parcells was relentless, yelling at him in front of the whole team. Finally, the head coach, Dean Pryor, stepped in. "Leave the guy alone," Pryor told his young assistant. "But, coach, we worked on the damn play all week," Parcells said. "Well," Pryor said, raising his voice, "you didn't work on it enough because they scored."

Guys, he's a rookie. Rookies (usually) run simplified offenses for a reason and it's because reading the entire field is hard. I don't think they simplified things all that much for Dak but they did do things to try and make him more comfortable like not moving out of 11 personnel much and having him be in shotgun most of the time.

That still doesn't change the fact that rookies don't generally see the field as well as a vet does. It happens.

Almost all rookie QBs are on a 1 or 2 read gameplan for their 1st game.

This type of gameplan is why he was not sacked often and didn't throw picks.

It sucks that he missed that but he's a rookie and it's not unexpected that he's not going to see everything.

Even seasoned veterans sometimes don't see guys that are completely open. It just happens sometimes. It's going to happen a little bit more often with a rookie because they're not seeing all the field all the time.

How about Beasley catches that ball at the 5 and goes in or we score on any one of the other 2 red zone trips and we aren't even having this conversation. Playcalling in the redzone sucks!

Oh my God you can look at almost any play in the NFL and see wide open receivers I've been watching receivers Run free downfield and Romo not throw to them for years.

and also what is up with Donnell being able to engage Byron Jones and throw him to the ground 5 yards into the end zone on a passing play? This was the game winner? How was there not a penalty?

Do you really have to ask how they 'missed' it? That guy on the end line has to see that, even if he's not looking he's going to see the collision peripherally. He chose to ignore it IMO.

Now I can see 3 officials in that picture alone, two of them appear to be looking elsewhere. But the guy on the goal line was looking in the right direction to see it if he chose to.

if you look at the picture close, the official is standing at the pile on staring right at it. Unbelievable.

He saw what he wanted to see, he missed what he wanted to miss. It has gotten to the point where I expect things like that to happen. I've lost all faith since Blandino screwed us in GB.
