My son and I were down in San Antonio for training camp Tony's Rookie year. For those that can't remember (and I don't blame you) our QB of the future was Quincy Carter and the Golden arm in camp was Chad Hutchinson (the next Troy Aikman) Clint Stoener was also in camp. The most accurate thrower by far on the field was Tony. The others were awful. I'd never seen anyone more inaccurate then Hutchison who literally throw a football through a brick wall, but who could reliably hit a brick wall. Little did we know then that Tony would be the Quarterback for the Cowboys for the next 15 years of so. That was also Witten's Rookie year. Going to miss Tony. He made the Cowboys competitive for many years when we really sucked for the most part. Shame we didn't rebuild the line about ten years ago. We would have had a another Super Bowl title I'm thinking. Is what it is. Like Tony, he always showed class.

Mike and Mike saying he will be released, which one is it, retire or release?

its a firm release by the Cowboys with soft retire by Romo. I still think he plays in '17 with QB injury on contending team.

Dan Marino was not a great GM. Just because Elway has had success, it does not make Romo any more qualified.

Elway at least ran an Arena team to prove himself.
Right, which is why I said *could*. I think he could be a great commentator, but who knows. lol

If Tony actually quit mid-season, leaving a network hanging (which I can't see him ever doing), his time doing either would likely be at an end.

I suspect he'd negotiate the option to go back and play into any contract

I admire you guys who can live through cap hell while insisting it doesn't exist.
Yep..we can't sign all the Deion sanders out there because of the cap..and we wouldn't get your witty comments about any high priced signings if we did

There was an emphasis on the *could*. I think he could be a great commentator, but who knows. lol

You can't be a great GM if you can't evaluate talent. Romo has zero experience in this area so it's anybody's guess as to how he'd do.

I'd feel more confident saying he could be a good coach but even that's guessing as to how he could communicate with his players.

The Tony Romo saga has ended.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback has opted to retire, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. He is retiring in order to pursue opportunities in football broadcasting, Rapoport reported on Good Morning Football on Monday. Romo has received offers to work for CBS and Fox.

Around The NFL will have more on this story shortly.

absolutely. No network would stop Romo from re-entering NFL during playoff push. In fact I think its likely. The booth job would be his the second season is over.

Many of the best public performers (speakers, actors, etc) are quiet, introverted people. Quiet or introverted has absolutely nothing to do with whether a person is effective in front of the public.

Good to know you failed speech class in school.

A performer on a stage is NOT the same as a football game announcer, not even close.

Wow, I have to admit I'm actually surprised. I think it is for the best though. 37, with back problems, go make some more bank sitting on your butt man! Live that cush life!

Besides, I was cringing at the thought of seeing him in another uniform.

Thanks for all you did and good luck Tony!!
Nothin worse than "sitting on youre but" for low back problems, trust me!

Except moving the wifes stuff in a uhaul maybe

I'm glad Tony is retiring as opposed to being released and being picked up by another team for cheap. This has to be a disappointment to the Texans and Broncos, assuming Romo actually stays retired (which remains to be seen). Other teams should have offered draft picks for trade when they had the chance.

Anyway this is a smart move for Tony, getting out with his health intact. Hopefully he will have a long and happy retirement.

wrong. Dallas is designating him as post june 1st release. Romo is free to un-retire and sign with any team he wants with zero obligation of compensation to cowboys for signing team. I don't think later part happens immediately.

But but but..Jerry said he had 5 years left and it's not a damn debate.

This goes to show what an absolute ******* idiot of all idiots Jerry Jones has become.

For a mid level pick Houston would have been an odds on favorite for the super bowl.
They would have grabbed the spotlight from Dallas for a couple of years and stuck it to jerry.
Now ? Well good luck fellas.
You just go back to being an after thought
That's just it. If Romo wanted to retire, it wouldn't have mattered.

Could be true. It takes more than knowledge of the game to be good at it. Montana has terrible.
yep I don't see Tony sticking with television at all...in his press conferences he stammers more than Jerry.
