Well I certaintly did not expect that this morning.

All in all it really is the smartest move for him. Best thing for his health and keeps his kids and pregnant wife in Dallas.

Part of me is sad it's ending this way for him. We all know how much that competitive fire of his burns. Although I didn't really want to see him in another uniform, especially winning a SB, I did want to see him have some sort of a comeback and end his playing career on a high note.

100% agree. If they release him, he will be in Denver or Houston within 3 weeks and Jerry will look like a fool. They better have a deal with him that they won't make him pay back the money and he doesn't unretire. They need to just let him retire and keep his rights. They might end up needing him or being able to work a trade if another team has an injury. Romo will be easily talked out of retirement. Jerry needs to make sure that if he unretires, it's because Dak got hurt and we need him.

Actually, in this scenario which ever team doesn't sign Romo will be the fool when they could have guaranteed his rights with a simple draft pick.

I would think that would already be discussed before taking the job. That possibility is real and it's one he probably couldn't turn down. Aikman nearly did it and I don't think it would have blackballed him from covering games again.
We'll have to agree to disagree on this one, Risen. I just can't see it. Not if he's handed one of the rumored lead jobs. I can't imagine a network going for that.

They can if they want to. I don't think he'll make the HoF but they can take anything and everything into consideration.
Yeah I don't see him making it to the HOF either, sadly. Though I certainly think he belongs.

Why not? It wouldn't hurt the network at all. It helps Romo's brand if he comes back to try to lead a team to the playoffs and as Romo's brand grows, his value to the network grows.

You honestly think, mid-season, that Tony would quit a lead broadcasting job, leave the network hanging, and then hop back on the field on his 3rd year removed from sustained football? Come on...
Sure do...
It's going to kill a guy like Romo to watch and not play...if Dallas suddenly needs him he will drop that headset so fast. His broadcasting career isn't what he dreams about. It's just what he needs to settle for because he can't be the starting QB of the cowboys.

I think we'll emjoy Romo in the booth. I still think he is a fantastic QB who can win playoff games but this is the best choice. He is wealthy and has children. Walk away while he can and enjoy life.

Btw, Houston has themselves to blame.
Had they not played chicken and offered a 3 at beginning of free agency, I believe they could have gotten Romo and he would have played this year. But I believe that Romo saw that the market for him was not great and that factored into his decision. Have to feel wanted.

First all the media said he was being released. Then all the media said he was being traded. Now all the media is saying he's retiring.

I'll believe it when I see it. Considering everything, retirement makes the least amount of sense.

I can't wait to see their reaction...they blew it.
