I'd use Dan Bailey as my back up QB long before I'd ever consider Josh Freeman. Freeman has had a couple good years, but he seems to be a prima dona QB who doesn't want to put in work, and that's never a good quality in a leader.

Name one QB who had a horrible first few years, who was then benched in the middle of his career, for years, and was considered a serious starter after that?

Jim Plunkett comes to mind. Steve Young, maybe Craig Morton.

Never the less, this would be a terrible idea IMO. If you think he's a better option then Orton, then I might see the reasoning here but I am not convinced that he is. If you want to bring in a guy to develop, then bring in a young guy who is not going to cost you millions. Bringing in a vest player to develop is crazy. Why would anybody do that?

Good lord! Freeman is the absolute worst quarterback, why was he benched by an 0-3 team if he was such a fantastic player? I dislike Orton as a backup, and honestly don't feel comfortable with him in the games, but Freeman would be the worst trade this team could make today.

No to Freeman, the Buccaneers are a very talented team, great scheme, young players, decent coaching staff, he couldn't even win there. Please no.

Would people just stop worrying about the backup QB spot. Romo just signed a 6 year extension and Orton is under contract for another year or two. They are not going to put any assets(draft picks or money) into the position until it is determined Orton needs to go. It is not time to start grooming the next starter. They are committed to Romo for the next 4-5 years at least. It will be time to visit this topic in 2 or 3 years or when the dump Orton. Until then the QB position is settled except for camp arms and PS guys.

I love how everyone in the forum knows whether Josh Freeman has heart, competitiveness, and whether he is in the best position to succeed.

I'd love to find out how everyone KNOWS this.

It could be true. It could also be true that Greg Schiano inherited Josh Freeman, and would prefer a different quarterback.

Sorry ... Being in the Tampa area I assure you we want no part of Freeman..
Every home game week he is at the local casino or bars downtown partying .. Really surprised this hasn't been reported .. Doesn't show up for team photos .. Isn't a leader in the locker room and really doesn't have the respect here or anywhere .. He probably still believes he is a starter and will probably wait until his contract is up before he can be moved .. Unless a team comes calling due to injury..

.he has some physical talent , but his mechanics are not as good .. He has been accused of not being football smart and he is reported to not be a film watcher .. I just don't see an upside with this guy at all

Aahhhhhh........... Yeah it is time to start grooming a future starter. It's always time for that IMO.

Anyone who listens to Josh Freeman talk on his weekly radio show .. Or who has seen him out on a Friday night before a home game drinking his arse off could tell he just doesn't have IT... Maybe he can grow up and get it .. But he just doesn't have it

He'd make a good Jag.

He already is a JAG, whether he is good or not makes no difference. Orton is the better backup now and I would rather develop Tanney or some other player then spend a draft pick on Freeman. If Cowboys want to actually enhance their title hopes THIS season as well as for the future, then trade for young players that can have an impact right NOW.

Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron, Phil Taylor, Ruben Ahtyba, Brian Hoyer - There's a firesale in Cleveland I hear - and Norv Turner runs their offense so the transition should not be very difficult.

I think Dallas should try to get Freeman from the Bucs with the condition of a different contract. I confess I don't even know if that is doable under the salary rules of the NFL. But if that were possible I would do it. I would make clear to Freeman that he is an investment in the present (as a backup) and for the future. I would give him two or three years of preparation. That guy has a TON of physical ability. If he could take hold of the current culture in the Cowboys organization it could rescue his career and give us insurance at QB and possibly our future.

I admit I'm just brainstorming, but any thoughts?

I'd rather develop a younger QB 2 years from now
