Dallas should try to get Josh Freeman

I like him. But I'm curious why we should take cap hits to get rid of Orton, or spend draft picks to get a player who clearly would simply be on our bench as the 3rd string guy? If they waive him, I'm in favor of picking him up. But there is no other way I even consider spending to grab a 3rd QB that takes up a roster spot from a Philip Tanner or an Andre Smith.

I think Dallas should try to get Freeman from the Bucs with the condition of a different contract. I confess I don't even know if that is doable under the salary rules of the NFL. But if that were possible I would do it. I would make clear to Freeman that he is an investment in the present (as a backup) and for the future. I would give him two or three years of preparation. That guy has a TON of physical ability. If he could take hold of the current culture in the Cowboys organization it could rescue his career and give us insurance at QB and possibly our future.

I admit I'm just brainstorming, but any thoughts?

You've got a major problem here even if Dallas was interested.

Freeman will not be and therefor he'd never agree to redo his contract in order to make it work.

If Freeman were willing to sit and be a back up at this point then he wouldn't be trying to force a trade. He wants to start. He wouldn't start in Dallas.

are you still under the impression Sanchez is a good qb, he has sizzle? does that count too?

I don't recall ever posting, positively or negatively, about Mark Sanchez. I also don't see what this has to do with what I posted, but I'll play along.

With that out of the way, Mark Sanchez has never completed over 58% of his passes in any given season, and his offenses never threw the ball down the field. He is too inaccurate to be a successful QB in the NFL.

Anyone who listens to Josh Freeman talk on his weekly radio show .. Or who has seen him out on a Friday night before a home game drinking his arse off could tell he just doesn't have IT... Maybe he can grow up and get it .. But he just doesn't have it

LOL

Listening to someone on the radio is that way of knowing whether someone has heart or competitiveness? Really?

Freeman being out on a Friday night partying is also an example of not having heart or competitiveness? Was Michael Irvin lacking heart or competitiveness? Because he partied more than anyone, and those were two qualities that he didn't lack.

I swear, people are funny with this stuff. I have no idea whether Freeman is lacking in those areas. I do know that he has had success in this league (look at his play in 2010 and 2012). I also know that he was inherited by Greg Schiano, who may just want to have his own guy (Mike Glennon) playing instead. Freeman hasn't played well this year, so he opened the door to this change.

Josh? Is that you? I didn't know you were a closet Cowboy fan! See you at the club this weekend?

Hilarious, and a total deflection from the point I was making.

Yes, a guy going to the bar on a Friday before a game lacks heart and competitiveness.

I guess Michael Irvin came up short in those areas as well.

All I know is, the guy has been productive and successful in the league. A change of scenery could do him well. If he came to Dallas, and the Cowboys didn't give up anything other than money for him, I wouldn't have a problem with it, so long as the expectations are clearly laid out for him.

And will be an Ex-Buc early next year.

He could end up being an Ex-Buc this season if Tampa can workout a trade for him. With the Browns already making a big trade looking to the future the Bucs may be looking to do the same thing but I doubt Freeman would draw much interest if any until after the season.

They would need a taker, and with his salary (over $6 million) and the fact that he will be a free agent next year, he's pretty much untradeable.

Just edited my post pointing out they would need a taker which I doubt they will find during the season. Hard to bring in a QB during the season to start and have them learn a new system. A team would have to be very desperate to trade for Freeman and start him this season. The Bucs will allow him to walk at the end of this season.

I like Freeman a lot more than Orton. Freeman has shown flashes of brilliance. In 2010 61% completion with 25 TD's and only 6 int's. The kid has a lot more upside than Orton or Tanner or anyone else we have on the roster. That would be my reason for doing it.

A bunch of you guys share the same little picture that appears on the left hand side of the screen (rowdy). I don't know which one of you I'm dealing with at any given moment :) How bout some variety?
