Aw, go easy on them, after all, they're Lions fans-- what could they possibly know about football??

They still think Barry Sanders was better than Emmitt Smith, that alone destroys any credibility they might once have had...

I fart in their general direction...

:D :D :D :D :D :D
Our fans used to be smart, I guess losing for over a decade has literally turned us into the Eagles.

Emmitt was NOT better than Barry Sanders, you can roll out all of the adam stats, you can preach it from the mountain top, you can type it 1,000,000 times, Emmitt couldn't even sniff Sanders Jock, but I will give you this. Emmitt was a Super Bowl winner, and because of that alone, I'd take Emmitt every day of the week, but in terms of talent alone, Barry was superior.

You really should post less.

Barry was a better open field runner. Emmitt did everything else better incuding not being a quiter.

Roy has potential, but so far, he hasn't lived up to it.

he played half a season in Dallas and was still learning the playbook with terrible play calling...

it's been quoted by Lion's OLinemen that Barry didn't run where he was supposed to and blocking for him was terrible.

Emmitt > Barry

So retiring makes you a quitter? I learn something new every day.

Emmitt > Barry

I don't really know the comparison, both were elite caliber and football heroes.

but your logic seems self-defeating. Emmitt had a tremendous line/qb-wr threat. Barry had no blocking and still did what he did. If he had half of Dallas' line that Emmitt ran behind, who knows what he would have done.

Emmitt > Barry
The last group of individuals that need to ever chime in is any group that blocked for Barry Sanders because those groups were the worst in history.

Barry basically stormed through the league without an offensive line, meanwhile, Emmitt had the best line in the history of football. Do the math.

all of a sudden sending a fax to the owner saying you're done is quiting. he wasn't even man enough to call. also I like how do didn't respond to everything else Emmitt was better at. probably cause than you wouldn't have something to whine about.

did it ever occur to you that maybe the linemen were doing what they were supposed to do and blocking who they were supposed to block. perhaps Barry was the one not running where he was supposed to. if he had, maybe he'd have a couple rings...

I think the Cowboy fan in general has gone in sane.

The crap I read every day, soooooo funny. Have you ever seen most of the lanes Barry had to run through? I didn't either because they didn't exist. Had Barry not stopped, and turned to go another route, he'd be Hambrick.

as a RB, sometimes you have to be patient. holes didn't always open up for Emmitt either.

also, just because a majority of fans don't see something the way you do, it doesn't mean they've gone insane. it simply means all fingers point to you being wrong.

This is funny. I almost don't want to respond because it's not worth my time but most fans can't see straight. They see what they want to see. I'm tired of being that fan.

I see the truth, and the truth is, Emmitt had a HOF line, HOF QB, HOF type coach, HOF defense, hall of famers all over the place.

Now let's see, if you bring sticks and rocks to a gun fight, I'll take over your land. I'm betting the indians would've whipped the Europeans straight up in a fair fight.

In case you still don't see my point, I'll tell you what. Let's play a game of touch football, I'll take 4 x players, an X great QB and my self, and I'll give you 5 3rd graders. I'm a big man, so I can't run like I used too I'm pretty sure you'd kick my butt one on one in a run down (not in a fight, I'd maul you) but I'm pretty sure I'd win every time.

6 grown men against 1 skinny guy and 5 3rd graders? wow, you're reaching for a point...

Hall of Fame line? Really? Name them. Larry Allen is a shoe-in, but that might be it. Barry Sanders had Lomas Brown, who was no slouch. You can have that pure runner/open field crap. Who can't run in the open field?
Emmitt Smith was the COMPLETE PACKAGE. He could run, block, catch and score with the best of them. He was not taken out of the game when his team got close to the goal line. And he would NEVER EVER be held to minus 1 yards in a freakin' playoff game!!! Emmitt was clutch. His best games were when the chips were down. He made the men around him better. They literally could not win without him. You guys enjoyed Barry Sanders highlights (the ones where he wasn't stopped behind the line of scrimmage for the umpteenth time), I get that. But I'll take an all-around warrior and clutch performer over a highlight film anyday.

logical people are doing the math. looks like Emmitt is better.

Emmitt Smith better than Barry Sanders? Are you out of your mind?

Emmit played 15 years, Barry played 10.

With five extra years, substantially better offensive linemen, 1347 more carries Emmitt averaged .8 yards less per carry than Barry, only 3086 more yards and 65 more touchdowns and Barry was a much better pass catching back.

Barry Sanders

Emmitt Smith

and it isn't even a contest.

And Larry Allen came after Emmitt had won two championships, a league MVP, and super bowl MVP title.

I debated the Barry vs Emmitt topic several months ago and after looking closely at the statistics, much less the film, Barry was the back I would have chosen.

The one year he had a fullback like Emmitt, Barry ran for over 2000 yards and averaged 6 yds a carry. Those who argue Emmitt had a better nose for the end zone should look at the avg yd per TD run and see many of Emmitt's TD runs were inside 5 and even 2 yds. I don't recall the calculation I made, but Barry's average TD run was several times longer.

Back to the topic at hand. Where would Williams go in this draft? And if the Cowboys targeted him, would they have to trade a third to move up and get him? If the answer is yes (as I think it would be), I think the trade is still OK.
