Back to the topic at hand. Where would Williams go in this draft? And if the Cowboys targeted him, would they have to trade a third to move up and get him? If the answer is yes (as I think it would be), I think the trade is still OK.

This is the problem I have with the Williams trade. It was a knee-jerk reaction by Jones because of the incompetence of Garrett.

Garrett couldn't move the ball, the beloved Miles Austin wasn't getting it done on the other side, so instead of Jerry looking at the true problem which was Garrett, he tried to fix an "Oil leak" by buying rims.

but your logic seems self-defeating. Emmitt had a tremendous line/qb-wr threat. Barry had no blocking and still did what he did. If he had half of Dallas' line that Emmitt ran behind, who knows what he would have done.

Barry Sanders had a -1 yard rushing game against the Packers in the playoffs. He was a shake and bake, dart and go back. He bounced around on his feet looking for openings while in the backfield.

His style wouldn't have fit in with Dallas' offensive line. Emmitt Smith made that line, too. He was built for it and built to last.

Huge risk. No o-line either. Stafford does remind me a lot of Jay Cutler with his arm and decent mobility to move around and buy time though. If they draft him I think he sits back a season like Palmer did, the odds thisyear would be too far against him. They don't have Kitna to coach the kid up like he did with Carson though. Culpepper certainly won't, nor is he capable. Does have CJ though.

If they are smart, they will draft William Beatty at number 20. However, we are talking about the Lions. The Eagles will be crying. lol

Emmit played 15 years, Barry played 10.

With five extra years, substantially better offensive linemen, 1347 more carries Emmitt averaged .8 yards less per carry than Barry, only 3086 more yards and 65 more touchdowns and Barry was a much better pass catching back.

I read the words now in bold font, and got the strongest whiff of bovine fecal matter... Barry averaged 2.3 receptions per game played, Emmitt averaged 2.2 receptions per game... that would work out to 1-2 extra catches per season... and of course, the Boys didn't have to throw the ball as much as the Lions did back then, thus giving Barry more opportunities to catch the ball... Barry was surely not a "much better pass catching back"... at best, he was a little better in that area...

Then there's the little matter of three Super Bowl rings, to Barry's none... greatness is found only in winning, and Barry never did... Barry never put his team on his shoulders while suffering from a dislocated shoulder, in a crucial game to make the playoffs, the way Emmitt did...

Emmitt was CLUTCH, Barry never was... that's why Barry came out down on the goal line, and Emmitt didn't...

And of course, longevity factors into the definition of "great", and Emmitt has it ALL over Barry in that category...

Barry was just about the best "pretty" back I ever saw, but Emmitt was the VASTLY superior FOOTBALL PLAYER... which is why he and not Barry is the league's all-time leader in rushing, in rushing TDs, and in 100 yard games...

Emmitt was a Super Bowl winner, and because of that alone, I'd take Emmitt every day of the week, but in terms of talent alone, Barry was superior.

The schedule makers right now are probably looking at the schedule and laughing, "lets see... start them at home with Pittsburgh and away at Baltimore... no no ... away Baltimore, Saints, Seattle, then Home against Pittsburgh."
