It's hard to know. It really only matter what they are asking for on July 15th. I'm certain they know that the Cowboys don't really negotiate until the deadline is very close. The Cowboys always did that with draft picks before the new CBA slotting the draft pick contracts.

Good point.

It still say that Dez himself would be satisfied with a contract that could be proclaimed to be the biggest ever for a WR but that in reality can be dumped after some number of years and actually be a much smaller contract than advertised. The mainstream media will run the total contract size, even if it just has inflated dummy years on the back-end. His agent might try to explain the details to him, but I don't think he will really understand it.

So you think it has to do with ego? Could be. I've just never heard a player threaten to skip real games a month before the contract deadline and three months before the season starts. I have no doubt a deal will get done. And I know it shouldn't, but this drastic negotiating ploy being rolled out on Dez's behalf irks me. I'll prolly live, though.

Just because he was right about Johhy Football. does not mean he is right about everything. and i think he is dead wrong about not keeping Murray. and wrong about not giving Dez a long term deal. as i said, Stephen Jones has been reading his press clippings to much. he is not as smart as he thinks he is. or as the local lap dog media thinks he is.

Where the heck does that come from?

Tyron and Witten didn't go for the absolute max when they signed contracts.

There is no reason that being the 2nd highest paid WR shouldn't be good enough. The 2nd highest paid WR has a contract that averages 12M and had 27M guaranteed. I'm fairly certain the Cowboys would give him a contract that was bigger, but his ego is driving him to want to be #1.

The asinine part is that he wants everybody to just forget all of the off-field issues that he has had and all of the things the Cowboys did to help keep him out of trouble.

the cowboys have about two years to compete for a super bowl this and one more then romo will be in huge decline so yes once romo is done the rest don't matter because without a qb you are not going to win.

We're playing without a QB after the next 2 years!!!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Side note - he will be replaced. My sources tell me it's Vaughn.

Syephen is VERY smart (his track record the last couple of years taking over for Jerry is overwhelming proof) and was right not to pay Murray $8M.

Not to be picky (okay, I am being picky), but a Lexus is a Toyota brand - it's exclusive brand.
Sincerely, a former Toyota new car salesman. :)

Maclin: 85 catches, 1318 yards, 15.5 ypc, 10 TDs
Bryant: 88 catches, 1320 yards, 15.0 ypc, 16 TDs

trust me, I know that. That was the point. The other guy was trying to act like Dez was a Lambo and Maclin was a Lexus in comparison. Basically stating that Maclin wasn't even in the same league. I get it.. and in some ways I agree. I was responding to his lame comparison with another lame comparison. Stats don't tell you everything but they don't lie either. I was only pointing out that another receiver with similar production as Dez recently signed a far less contract than $17mil a year. ($11mil is still a ton and can easily "take care of his family" as Dez recently ranted on twitter.

And to clarify my comparison: Maclin is a speed Wr and faster than Dez. So the lame "Lambo" comparison fits Maclin better. The poster that I replied to was making Maclin sound like a scrub. So in essence, Dez is more comparable to the Lexus bc a Lexus is only a dressed up Toyota. Meaning Dez thinks he's worth $17mil, meanwhile a "scrub" like Maclin with similar production was willing to sign a more team friendly deal.

My sources tell me the same thing. We will put Vaughn in so we can tank and get a top 5 pick and draft a real QB

I think Tom Condon asked Dez what he wanted. I think Dez said he wanted to be paid like a top 3 receiver (as in Megatron/Fitzgerald top 3). I think Tom Condon said negotiation is all about leverage and the only leverage you have is to threaten not to play. And so Tom told the media that Dez might miss games and Dez confirmed this.

I think this is a bluff. Its the only move Condon thinks he has - playing on Jerry's emotions, knowing Jerry cares about his players and cares about how people perceive him. Except now, Stephen is bringing a new tough-line mentality to the financial operations.

Now, Dez doesn't really have much of a play here.

If he misses a couple of games and Dallas succeeds without him, he loses even more leverage and MONEY. There is MUCH more risk on Dez's side than Dallas'.

franchise him for 2 years and draft a few in those same 2 years. if he holds out for just one game, year 3 trade him.

Murray got overpaid, I am glad we didnt match it. The backup plan to Murrays departure which shouldnt have been a surprise, is what I am concerned about.

But overall, I love the new way of doing business. It has seemed to flow down and into coaching and the culture of this organization. Garret is coming into his own, coordinators are experienced and skilled, FO is making really solid moves. -- And it all jelled last year. I expect/hope it continues. Its been a long time for the Cowboys.....a long, long time. They need to prove it on the field.

But, I think were building a winning organization, which will result in winning teamS. I just wanna see Romo and Witten win a SB. I would give up 3 years of no chance, losing teams, just to see them win one.

Funny how a few months ago it was PAY THE MAN, now when he comes out with a demand, the tone changes to swing back to his behavior issues being something that should have a bearing on the issue. Hero worship to team first in a flash.

I don't begrudge any player trying to get his money. It's his body, his career.
Having said that, I simply can't get worried about stuff like this. It's part of the game. The only people who are going to look out for your best interest are you.
If Dez gets hurt in the service of the Dallas Cowboys, they're not going to continue to pay him the fullness of his contract. So he has to do what he has to do to protect himself or make as much as he can. And I aint gonna hate on him for that.

Simple. Get an insurance policy. Russell Wilson did. There goes your well thought out idea....

I don't think an insurance policy pays you for the duration of your career.

And what's with this "there goes your well though out idea"?

Nothing I'm saying is strange or new. People want to get paid according to their worth. That's been basic since an early caveman gave another some iron pirate at the end of a hard day of hunting later to discover it was fool's gold. ;)

I think it's still pay the man. It's just that the perceived "Pay" is striking some as more then what might be considered equitable. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty who think that what Dez is asking for is fair, but there are also many who believe it's too much. It's not our money so we really have no say but in the off season, it's something to talk about.

I don't think it has any impact at all on franchising him next year. If he decides to sit 10 games this year he will lose $8m. Is he really going sit out another 10 games next year and lose another $10m? At that point thats almost the difference in what the team is offering and what he wants. Not to mention the stigma he will surround himself with if this is the route he really wants to take.

he only has to sit a few games, like 2-4 games to make a impact.
And sho that if they tag him again in 2016 he will sit out 4 more.

you say you want a SB , even if it caused a losing team later on, but then say glad they didnt pay murray and glad they franchised dez. lol
They should have kept murray and dez , signed both, and then they could have had a SB this year !!
They already blew that chance.
People say they want a SB now for witten and romo and themselves lol , but yet worry about long term effects of keeping star players!
you are wanting to have your cake and eat it too, same for cowboys FO.

Truth is IMO is when they let murray walk and franchised dez , that derailed any SB this year and maybe next year too.
