People are comparing the 13m he gets this year with the 40m he wants to be guaranteed.

They are acting like he won't make another dollar after 2015 if he doesn't get it fully guaranteed this year.

Your analogy about earning 100k vs 33k is bogus. It would be like your idiot coworkers being guaranteed a 3 year contract worth 100k tops and you being told you will make 33k, 40k, and 57k the next 3 years but you have to earn year to year.

Except for the whole career threatening injury stuff that you're conveniently ignoring.

Or even if not career threatening what about the injury that has a long rehab and takes away from you permanently what made you special.

It's like you don't know why a player in a career that has a 3 year average life why guys are always looking to maximize their earnings.

Anyone see Andrew McCutcheon's pay stub?

13 mil ain't 13 mil for these athletes. No where near.

Limited years of earning opportunity and risk of serious injury.

Gotta make it while they can.

Let both sides negotiate, let Dez vent.

God forbid they work a day in their lives after they retire at the age of 32.

Give me 13 million for 1 year and I will live lixiouriously compared to the average American for the next 50 years of my life.

Where did you get 40m per year from.

From your post. You said "if your talent was worth 40m at the sign of a pen but you were only getting 13m," and your example was of another employee making $100,000 per year to "your" $33,000 per year. There are no receivers making more than three times what Dez would make.

Have him talk to Russell Wilson's insurance agent.

Julio Jones is saying all the right things now.

Of course, he hasn’t been hit with a franchise tag yet, either.

The Falcons wide receiver is waiting for his new mega-contract, but says he’s not going to stay away from his team during the offseason — like Broncos wideout Demaryius Thomasor Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant are doing at the moment.

“I haven’t been watching other people,” Jones said, via Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com. “All I can do is take care of me. I’m going to let [the Falcons] take care of that side of it. If they say be here at this time, I’m going to be there. I’m going to be accountable.

“I’m not going to hold out for anything. My teammates need me. I’m being selfish if I’m not here and doing what I need to do.”

Buh Bye

Here's hoping your shoulder holds up. You're welcome for the right track the Cowboys put you on. Good luck in the future staying healthy @ 17 Mil. because if you don't you'll catch Hell and ruin your team no matter who that is. You are a selfish Player.

Hold out for the whole season if you want. We'll be okay, GO Cowboys!

TEAM WINS

If he wants to hold out, he has all the right in the world to do so.

Pouting and acting as if he has been disrespected for receiving a franchise tag, composing himself off the field the same way he does on the field when he doesn't get his way.

Why should Dallas be stuck paying top dollar for a hurt or non-special player for years and years? I always hear that you pay for the present not the past.

So he just played 5 years for 11.8m and now it is impossible for him to play one year for 12.8m

Stop being so dramatic. If he is worried about a career ending injury pony up for some insurance

If Dez is as good as everyone says he will make 50-70m in the next 4-6 years on the field, probably 25m more off the field

It is real hard to worry for his future security when he has made over 45m so far

When did I say him playing for 13 is impossible. It is in fact probable.

That isn't the discussion. If I was him I'd want what I'm worth. This is America.

Buying a house is not an expense. It is a transfer of assets from one form (cash) to another form (property). Your net worth has remained the same.
Sorry, but you're mistaken. When you are talking about long term investing, predicting average rates of return is incredibly accurate. History is 100% on my side here.

I can't promise you I can do 7% in the next year, but I can safely promise you I can do an annual rate of 7% over the next 20 years.

If you can guarantee 7% return for the next 20 years, I'll give you contacts at CalPers, AIG, Metlife, and a few state pension plans.

You have no idea what you are saying. You can easily say "this is the average return." That doesn't mean everyone sees that return - even over 20 years.
That's right. Some people go with high risk, high reward strategy so some will do better than 7%, some will do worse.

Meanwhile, anyone that has a long term investment strategy and a conservative strategy will be virtually guaranteed 7% in the long run.
I sure hope you aren't involved in financial advising because you speak untruths
Sorry, but history is on my side.

Why would you do that? I guarantee you that they won't be impressed (with the exception of state pensions since the public sector has separate rules that must be followed with regard to investments).

Now, do I expect anyone to feel sorry for McCutchen or Dez? Of course not, they're still multimillionaires, but $13 million to Dez Bryant isn't exactly $13 million going directly into his bank account.

It's close enough. And I love the WR, but obviously he's a me first player. You take Julio Jones 8 days a week over this blow hard brain dead foo...that's twice on game day.

Vanguard small cap index.

Morningstar only goes back 15 years, but its over 8% annually averaged over 15.

He's also under contract, get back with me next year when he's in the same boat as Dez

I read next 20 years...

But there are many pension funds underfunded as they have been accruing at 7-8% and yielding half that

Dez waited 5 years...he did his thing. Now pay the man as a top 3 wr in the nfl. Jerry get this done..I'm ok losing some pieces...definitely would have a major problem if we lose the heart and soul of them team, I can guarantee you that.
