Without Dez, our offence shrivels up big time.

Yep. but people on here keep trying to convince themselves that it will be ok without Dez. they are living in a dream world. it's bad enough they let Murray go like Michael Irvin has been saying. but add Dez to that, and it's over.

well shoot, im a horrible person because my family needs $100 mil too.

#family

you're supposed to get what your worth at your job just because his pay scale is in the different stratosphere than ours doesn't mean he should take significantly less

For wanting to be the highest paid WR, topping a stupid contract that's an aberration mind you, is being selfish and a bit greedy. IF the reports are accurate and he wants 17/yr and 50m+ guaranteed, yes thats being selfish and frankly unreasonable if he really wants a long-term deal. You have to give a little to get and his agent doesn't want to do that.

Is that selfish if it turns out that Jones and Demaryius get that sort of deal?

People look at 13m and say why is he complaining?

But what if your talent was worth 40m at the sign of a pen but you were only getting 13m? I'm sure you'd be miffed.

Or how about if your colleagues who are worse than you are were making 100k a year but your employer was giving you 33k. You wouldn't complain because there are some people on food stamps?

Stop it.

It is not equivalent to a guy making 33K when his colleagues are making 100K.

It would be more like his highest paid colleague is getting 160K and he is getting 120K while the average is well below 100K. The only difference is that some of the other 120K colleagues have a guarantee for several more years while he only has a 1 year guarantee.

as opposed to the billionaire owners lol....

these threads are always so predictable.

I don't think Jones plays the victim card at all but he does have to fit a Super Bowl caliber team under the salary cap. I think Jones would be glad to pay Dez 17 mil a year if he was not hampered by the salary cap.

I have no issue with Dez trying to get top dollar as long as he abides by the rules that the NFL and players union set up with the franchise tag. He has played for very little in his first five years compared to his productivity and compared to others of his caliber. This is his only chance to earn his big payday and he needs to maximize it like all other players do. It that same vein though he has to realize the restrictions of the salary cap and the rules the union agreed to. If that means he has to play under the franchise tag for 2 years and they get top dollar from a team that has no salary cap issues, but very little chance to win as well - that is his choice.

But I will have an issue with him if he sits out games.....

Before the corny comments ensue, I'd like to remind people this is a BUSINESS. Just because you'd take $13 million in a heartbeat doesn't mean Dez should. He has every right to maximize his value and financial security for his family.

too late, your comment is corny.

I don't enjoy today's game anymore then the one from 10 years ago.

these athletes are delusional. they can be replaced by people I would enjoy watching for a fraction of the price. Running fast is worthless without people that marketed it to be something worth big money.

That's not the point.

He's top 3 (I'd say #1) WR.

He deserves to be compensated for it.

What if you were the best at your job in your company, but were getting paid significantly less than your colleagues?

Wouldn't you be asking for more money? Get a new job, maybe?

I'm as big of Dez fan as there is. Huge Dez fan. With that being said, how many teams have won the SB with a #1 WR.?Especially one making 15+ a year. Jersey sales and headlines is basically what you're paying for. When did CJ make it to a SuperBowl? I didn't know you had to have that type of guy, getting paid that kind of bread, to win a SB.

13 mill for one season. Between agents fees and taxes, let's generously say he got 60% of that. That's 7.8 mill for a year. Let's say he suffers a career ending injury. He's done. 7.8 mill to live on for another 50+ years. That's about 150k per year. You make 150k per year and you are doing OK. However, that is not the sort of cash that he's seen handed out to teammates and others in the league.

Folks may hear 13 mill and shut down at that point, but the dude does have a point. He's likely looking for the sort of 50 mill guarantee that top players in this league get.

That's $13 mil on top of the roughly $11.8 mil he's earned to date, but I see your point. The fact remains that the NFLPA agreed to this system.

Having dez is great and makes us a better team and all but name me the top 5 wr's that where in this past superbowl. We can pay him but don't break the bank. He will just get franchised again next year and let go if he is out of our price range. We maybe looking for a wr next year.

I get that, I really do. But at some point a contract value hampers a team's ability to win by merit of not being able to afford to bring in other talent to surround Dez with due to the cap. Therein is my concern. If he really wants to win a championship with the Cowboys, you would like to think he would be willing to accept a contract that both recognizes his contribution as a player but doesn't interfere with the Cowboys ability to compete for the next 5 years. If the Cowboys give him what he wants, watch for the exodus in 2016 as the Cowboys have to drop good to great players just to keep Dez happy.

This ain't basketball...Dez can't do it all by himself.

The difference between Dez at 13m/yr and 17m/yr is going to be at least half of a yearly avg on Martin, Frederick or Collins, but let's just ignore that and give Dez QB money right?

He's right. He plays like an elite wideout he should be paid as such. He puts is body on the line wk in and out while the owners sot back and rack in more than he can ever imagin. What's wrong with him getting a piece of the pie? He's a player we cannot afford to los.

He is being paid as such... The franchise tag pays the average of the top 5 WR pay in the NFL....

I don't know how much more textbook you can be on "paid as such"...

Maximizing your value and "financial security" are two completely different issues at hand.

Maximizing your value is fine, and expected.

Using the "financially secure" line when being offered 13 million dollars, when most Americans don't even make 6 figures, makes you look like a complete butthole.

Then why doesn't Romo do it?
