Dez tweet today

Many of you must have missed when a picture of Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star Andrew McCutchen's pay stub leaked a month or two ago. The amount of taxes that get taken out of a professional athletes salary are ridiculous, and it kind of puts into perspective Latrell Sprewell's famous "make enough to feed my family" quote.

Now, do I expect anyone to feel sorry for McCutchen or Dez? Of course not, they're still multimillionaires, but $13 million to Dez Bryant isn't exactly $13 million going directly into his bank account.

Almost half of my salary goes to taxes in one form or another. I don't like it but that's how it is.

Had to pay self-employment taxes last year because I didn't get incorporated in time, I feel your pain.

I'm done with kicking dogs and refusing to eat my veggies of this tax issue. I'm all about trying to put a happy face on things now.

I think you're right and this tweet is not about contract negotiations so much as it's him addressing the "selfish" backlash he's getting from his threats to miss game(s) next season because a long term deal isn't done.

Exactly, Dez has been idolized and told he is wonderful etc since high school and this is the first time fans are saying negative things about him.
He is used to 100,000 fans cheering him so this negative feedback now is bothering him.
I imagine he is getting tweets about it.
He probably expected all fans to be in his corner on this lol.

The main problem with being franchised is if your injured and it is career ending injury, or lessens your ability to play the same, if that happens
Then the player is screwed compared to if he had a contract with 20 or more mil guaranteed.

If he plays this year and no injuries then it is ok, but there is the possibility of serious injury so that is the flaw of franchise tag.

What could correct this is if they had a clause saying if the player is injured and it ends his career or lessens his ability's, then he gets paid
a bonus of 30 mil that isnt on the teams cap. This could even be a insurance deal.
That way the player doesnt have to worry about being injured and only getting the tag salary for that year.

13 mil and he is talking about his security?

That should be enough money alone for him to live 3 lifetimes.

Why don't you start tweeting when you have some real problems Dez.

My analogy is as relevant as a guy making 33K compared to a guy making 100K.

Your original analogy didn't included that the football player could get injured but the office worker probably won't. Basically there is not a good way to make a comparison of the situation with Dez to a normal job. Maybe we can just get away from the attempted analogies to normal jobs.

The 2nd highest WR contract averages 12M and had 27M guaranteed. It is highly likely that the Cowboys would offer Dez something that exceeds that contract in both average and guaranteed money.

Except we have multiple sources that claim they came in under that number.

So there's that.

Soooo, you realize that $13m annually with a good amount guaranteed would be the 2nd largest WR contract in the NFL by a cool million, right? MEgatron is making on average 16.207m, Mike wallace is making 12m

EDIT: ABQ and I posted same thing ... :)

This isn't a conversation about annual dollars. It'd about total guarantees money. And again the Cowboys originally came in under that number.

And again if all this was as simple as beating Mike Wallace's contract (WE TALKING ABOUT MIKE WALLACE) then why aren't all these receivers signed?

They do have that. It is not uncommon, at all, for a Franchised player to have an insurance policy. That's why this whole career ending discussion point false short with me. If a player doesn't do that, then he's just plain stupid and that's on him.

He's the best player on the team and he should be paid as such.

He shouldn't be paid more than a QB regardless. You realize if we paid him 17, in three years we would be doomed for the next 10 don't you???? This isn't Madden...

Ask Tony who he thinks is the best player on the team. He makes Tony's job just a little be easier

Of course Dez makes his life easier, he's a top 3 receiver in the game(just like Romo is a top 3 QB in the game). However, between a franchise QB and a franchise WR, the QB carries way more weight in the success of the offense IMO.

IMO the top 3 guys on the roster are 1. Romo 2. Dez 3. Smith
