News: DMN: Gosselin: If Cowboys have top-five pick in draft, here's two positions they should...

Oh yes, there will be an extreme wide range of opinions come draft day.
And some will be changed depending on FA's signed and lost.

At least it could be interesting. As no one way to draft would really be wrong. QB, Defesne, WR, RB.
Even when to draft a TE...

Yeah it is way too early to speculate. We don't even really know what our needs will be come draft time. If the team does trade for JF and sign a player like Doug Martin or Lamar Miller, a lot will change.

I'm just ready for these playoffs to fly by so we can see what happens in free agency.

Didn't we land three impact players in this year's draft? Maybe it's me ... but none have made much of a difference in our record.

Draft a QB? Yes

Draft a QB in the first even though they are nowhere near a top 5 ranked player? No

My favorite story is the story of the Vikings, Jaguars and Titans. They took quarterbacks 5 years ago (Ponder, Locker and Gabbert) because they needed to draft a QB. All 3 of those teams drafted a new QB in the first a few years later because they made a mistake. Many of the premier players in the league were taken in that draft (Julio Jones, AJ Green, JJ Watt, Tyron Smith, Cam Newton) but those teams bombed on their first round pick and set their teams back 4-5 years.

The Bengals drafted AJ Green in the first, Andy Dalton in the second in the same year.

All 3 of them were put in immediately and perhaps too soon. If they had gotten a chance to sit for a year or two or even learn behind a great qb, they might have been different.... but they didn't.

If there isn't a QB or RB worth a top 5 pick, don't force it.

Get the best impact player when you are that high, whether it be offense or defense.

Andrew Billings is a Suh-type player. He would instantly make our defensive line dominant.

this is correct but make that effort to get the QB soon

I find it hilarious that just about everyone, especially those that want to take a different route in the draft than the route being suggested find that said QB class, or said RB class, or whatever class is weak. That's always the narrative. "That class is weak this year, we'd be stupid to draft that position."

Fact is, nobody knows. I rarely agree with Goose, but he's right. It's time to get dynamic with catalytic players at the major skills positions. QB, RB, WR.

I agree although a CB wouldn't be a bad way to go either. This QB class scares me a little but most do. So hard to judge qb's coming out of college anymore because the offenses are so different than nfl

No way I would use a top 5 pick on a RB. That's insane. And this crop of QB's isn't elite. Epic fail by Goose on this one

I dont think Gosselin looked at the talent level this upcoming draft.

But you are right. There is no RB worth taken in the first round this year (or i mean next year). I looked at most of them and there is no Gurley to be found.

There is also no QB in this draft worth a high pick. If we should really pick at #5 to me its a no brainer to trade down and pick up maybe a #10 plus another first rounder.

I know QB is the popular choice but I would love LB Jaylon Mills, FS Jalen Ramsey, DE Joey Bosa, or CB Vernon Hargreaves over Lynch and Goff. You can mock it different ways.

Mock 1
Resign Hardy
Sign FS Eric Berry

Draft
1-LB Jaylon Smith
2-QB Carson Wentz
3-CB Desmond King
4-RB Jordan Howard

Mock 2
Sign
DT Ngata
CB Janoris Jenkins

Draft
1-DE Joey Bosa
2-HB Derrick Henry
3-LB Terrance Smith
4-QB Brandon Doughty

Just some examples I'm throwing out there.

Trade Down and land both. Play your cards rite land a DB and a WR as well.

The right Veteran at any position may werk, but we herd Jerruh at backup QUARTER BACK - enter RG3 and even Manziel look fairly cheap but KaperPick looks free. There are some nice Veteran RBs as well.

I like Jaylon Smith but I'm thinking trading down is the way to go. If we can get LB or CB of that quality at 15 - 20 and pick up an extra second, then take a QB like Wentz and a RB like Devontae Booker with your second round picks, its a big impact. Then you still have a high 3rd and 4th.

Who developed Tony Romo?

It was the only coach in history to keep a quarterback despite not having a single snap at the position for two full seasons before starting.

He did it twice. The other won a Super Bowl.

I might be the only one, but please for the love of god no Paxton Lynch, Jared Goff, or Connor Cook.

If we end up with a top 5 pick and end up reaching for one of these guys, it's going to be a terrible decision given the many other needs on this team and the vast difference in talent level between guys like Bosa and Ramsey; and the top QBs of this years draft.

We can address the position in rounds 2-7 if the right guy is there, but I hope this team doesn't reach for a QB and end up with a Christian Ponder, Blane Gabbert, Jake Locker, etc.

Ouch Vernon is JAG. His sack totals are 3.5, 11.5, 6.5, and 7. Those where full seasons. That's not too powerful.

It's pretty simple, if there's a QB they like they should go after him, now is the time. Don't hope that guy will fall to you, work your draft and go get him. If not there are plenty of other holes to fill, especially on defense.

if the Cowboys are going to pick a first round offensive player then there is only one choice Laquon Treadwell. We need someone on the other side of Dez that is dangerous and can stretch the field. 6'3 and a 4.2 40 we would be drooling.
