Well if he can find any team(s) that are willing to trade something for Roy as much as I like him I hope Jerry would at least be willing to listen.

I think it would be considered tampering. While Dallas may be shopping Roy, they haven't given him or his agent permission to seek a trade partner.

I think the fact that he's gauged some teams interest suggest that he is working on behalf of his client. He and Roy both know that the team is under no obligation to oblige their wishes. So this is when going to the media works "for" you rather than against you.
That's probably true, but I would also consider any casual discussions he was engaged in at the Combine with other teams as tampering--or, at least, to some degree. If Roy Williams is eventually cut, I will be very interested in what kind of contract Woy can get for his client elsewhere.

Every year, Florio (PFT) talks about the tampering that presumably goes on at the Combine. From what I've read, all teams do it to some degree.

I think we all would.

Honestly, I think there are likely 4-5 defensive coordinators out there who think that they can really turn Roy around - he'll have to take a "prove it" deal but I expect there is legitimate interest

Well once he's cut, yes, there will be someone willing to sign him for something but I don't believe there is much of a market of teams willing to give up a draft pick for him.

I wonder where Roy will end up. I don't think he will get much of a contract anywhere. It would be foolish to overpay this guy.

We've already overpaid him with his most recent extension.

adam since roy williams the safety has asked to be traded or released today, how much cap money do we get if he is released, is it 2.3 million? and what does that put us at the salary cap money the cowboys have now after the roy williams thing and signing of keith brooking?

Cowboys have easy decision to make with SS Roy Williams

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips
SS Roy Williams, via his agent, has requested that the Cowboys cut or trade him today. Nobody wants to trade for him, which would mean taking his contract.

So this seems like a pretty simple decision: Wish Williams good luck and take his nameplate off of Darren Woodson's old locker at Valley Ranch.

National Football Post's Michael Lombardi, a former GM, put it in pretty blunt terms.

Who cares? Really, who cares? The Cowboys have to get a better player than Roy Williams at safety. He, along with Ken Hamlin, is a great liability on the third level of the defense. Williams has no market value in the NFL. In fact, he had very little market value before he signed his big contract with the Cowboys. He forces coaches to make adjustments to keep him from being on the third level, and he's a major liability in zone or man coverage.
I know they drafted him in the first round, but the best thing Wade Phillips can do for himself as the new defensive coordinator is to let Williams go and find some players who can tackle and play in space. This is one of those decisions as a General Manager that you don't mind making because they're not hard to make.

Coming soon: Clearance sales on No. 38 jerseys.

Brutally honest and right on the money.

Cut the cord Jerry!

yeah im hoping we can get a trade for roy williams, at least a draft pick, but was wondering if he is released or traded, how much cap money would that put us on the salary cap now

if he is released, how high a draft pick do we get in compensation for 2010 since he was a number one pick?

What happened to Adam's stats that says Roy W is still one of the top 2-3 SS in the NFL and easily better than Troy P at Steel.

BTW...I quit listening to those stats when he said the same thing about D. Johnson at Center, who hasn't seen the field since we got rid of him.

Williams is scheduled to count $6.6 million against the 2009 salary cap.

If the Cowboys trade or cut Williams, they will save roughly $2 million against the cap.

Nothing is going to happen with Roy til after the draft. Assuming he is still Cowboy after it.

We'd open up $1.795 million of cap room. And you don't get a comp pick for a player you release.

That's my guess also. In fact, I believe it would be in his best interest to wait until the draft.

Ungrateful?:)

Why should I be grateful to Roy Williams for soaking up millions of dollars of cap space to be a very average safety?

I'm not sure we're the one's being ungrateful in this story....

I can't tell you how much that I'm ready for this movie to end.

Roll the credits, PLEASE.
