He can replace Burnett as the LB in nickel situations. I could care less what he wants. He needs to suck it up like Greg Ellis did a few years ago. Somebody has to replace Burnett in those nickel situations and it might as well be Roy. His coverage skills are suspect but he should be better than average for most LBs.

another overpaid, enabled JAG making demands.

Roy benefits from our pathetic GM/ownership situation (who grossly overpaid for him then coddled him) but any other team would DUMP him when most convenient to the team, not selfish player.

He wont be released. That isnt enough cap relief to justify his release and you would still have to pay someone to replace. He can replace Burnett in nickel situations and earn his pay for once.

well my question is this, they are saying on espn roy williams will be released by 3 pm today. My question, where is the get tough policy the head coach and jerry jones said they are going to have. Remember some players like Gongalez TE wanted to be released etc, but the chiefs held onto him and said no. So, where is the get tough policy?

i understand if roy williams safety has a roster bonus coming up, but no one has said anything about htat, joe

I don't believe that the get tough approach which Jerry Jones and Wade Phillips have publicly commented about has anything to do with player contracts.

ok, reports are coming out on espn now, that roy williams safety will be released by 3 pm today. My question is this, where is the get tough policy that the cowboys say they are going to have?

Remember now, Tony Gonzalez TE wanted to be released or traded, and the chiefs didnt, they said we have the rights to you, get over it. It will be us the chiefs if we trade you, not you demanding or your agent. So, where is the get tough policy the cowboys are talking about?

I think it's more that he just doesn't fit into the Cowboys' plans.

The organization just isn't going to pay that much for basically a 2-down player.

I doubt anyone trades for him anyway.

I'm thinking since they let Burnett walk away, Roy will probably play that nickel LBer position on 3rd downs. They might re-structure his contract, though. I have no inside sources, and I'm definitely not NFL Management material - but if a guy is willing to re-negotiate, and can fill a roll for you - why release or trade him?

Who cares. This was the plan all along if they were unable to trade him. There obviously isn't a trade market for him so cut his useless *** and go get someone who wants to play football. Let him be someone else's headache!

well where i am going is this, the relenting to roy williams demands or his agents demands, to me, shows how really tough jerry jones says he will be with the players.

In other words jerry jones is bending to the will of roy williams and his agent, unless a roster bonus is due. If you bend to the will of a agent or the player demanding things, how are you as the owner going to get tough with the players when they need to be disciplined, if you follow my drift.

I don't get it, for the last two seasons, people have been wanting Roy gone, now he wants to traded or released and they still have something to gripe about.

the differance is Tony is a top player they want, Roy is a player we would like to trade but can't find a taker. we need to upgrade the postion.

Maybe their just isn't any bad blood between Roy and Jerry.

If Jerry has decided to move on, maybe he likes Roy and will grant his request.

Cut ties and move on. It's only a game people.

It doesn't.

Truthfully, the fact that they haven't commented is on par with what they normally do with regards to player contracts.

Honestly, if the Cowboys don't release him, then I'm putting this on Greg Ellis watch.

Basically watch Ellis piss and moan all offseason and the Cowboys ignore him.

I had hoped that Roy would get his mojo back but it looks like his time wearing the star may be done. Trading him for Huff makes more sense, especially b/c the Raiders are also thinking of cutting their former 1st.

But the trade better involve a pick/another player (Justin Miller) from the Raiders, in addition to Huff. Roy is a multiple pro bowler, and as much as the fans & media gripe, his level of play is still above league average. Get him in the right scheme, and he can be a playmaker again. Think Rex Ryan.

 Pretty much. I say we trade him to Oakland for Michael Huff, another guy who hasn't done squat the last 2 years. Re-structured contract of course. Maybe Campo can resurrect this 25 year old from Texas. I'll take a flyer on this guy since who knows whats going to be available on draft day. Want some type of insurance at the safety position and Keith Davis and Pat Watkins isn't it.

Here's his college highlight vid. Gets to the ball and has good pursuit, good hands for picks. His problem is tackling technique if you ask me. The players in the NFL are to big and strong to tackle the way he does. Plus he came from a big college and then goes to a shlup franchise like the Raiders where the mentality was a joke. He needs a change of scenery and maybe being star struck can wake him up.

Since when is there bad blood between Jerry Jones and anyone?

It is amazing you see other owners and management in blinking contests with players, but in our case, Jerry Jones always blinks first. It is not a good standard to have, particularly when you are trying to talk about woodsheds and other such gruff things.

Roy is in no position to make demands.

Jerra and Co. will act when and if the time and finances are right.
