I just don't get not cutting him if he was such a detriment.

It came down to Jerry's ego not wanting to admit he made a mistake. If he cut Hardy during the season the move to sign him blows up in his face and it makes it appear Hardy was a big part of why the team was losing.

Right on! It's very similar to Dez Bryant's contract which is 4.5 million per touchdown! Bargain!

What does Dez have to do with this? He has a contract. Are there posters advocating that he be re-signed to a larger deal? For that matter, would he be signed for the same amount this year that he was last year?

Bottom line is, Greg didn't produce anywhere near his pay level. Dez had a piss poor year as well but there are certainly a variety of factors that contributed to that. Health of himself and his QB being 2 giant ones. WR production is heavily reliant on QB play. There is no comparable relationship between a DE and any other player on the defense. Even if there was Hardy was advertised as, and was paid to be, a guy for whom it didn't matter.

Ultimately, I guess would come down to this. If you're going to fail to live up to your price tag, try not to do it in the last year (or only year) of your current contract. Thankfully for Dez, he has another 4 years to demonstrate he was worth his contract.

Yeah hes 27 about 3 more years left for him. Prolly wont make the top 50 receivers in yardage. All good.

Just commenting on hardys 1.5 mill per sack number by comparing it to dezs 4.5 mill per td number. Thats where I think im going with it.

Have at it, and continue to ignore every bit of context in regards to each player's lack of production while you're at it.

Nobody would pay either of those prices if they knew that was what they were going to get so what point is there in comparing the two? One guy has a contract and the other does not. The team can avoid one of those price tags and the other they cannot.

What does any of this have to do with my comment about people being infatuated with a bargain anyway? Is Dez's contract widely considered a bargain? Was that why people were interested in signing Dez?

"The reality of the situation"... A misdemeanor charge of abuse of a female that was dismissed and expunged from his record isn't even close to the biggest scarlet letter that a player can have against him. His current situation is not about the DV charge.

His current situation is absolutely about the DV charge and all the baggage that came with it (and that he brought on himself). What else would his current situation be about? What is it that's ultimately keeping teams from signing him?

Since the very first interview as a Cowboy, the media has treated Hardy with nothing but righteous indignation. Painting him as a bad team mate, while his actual team mates reported just the opposite. The media's blowing his words out of proportion like when he said he was "coming out with guns blazing" were intended to never give Hardy a fair chance. The blacklisting of Greg Hardy was complete. The idea that his performance on the field could have silenced the media's condemnation campaign is just not reality.

The guns blazing quote was a stretch, I'll give you that; but there have been conflicting reports from teammates and personnel regarding their time with Greg Hardy. I agree to an extent that no amount of production could repair his reputation, but that's due to the simple fact that he's a Cowboy. He wouldn't have had his name dragged through the mud as badly if he were say - a Jaguar or Bill, but his conduct (stupid interviews, confrontation with coaches, etc.) didn't help his cause, either.

Prior to their respective legal issues, Hardy was far superior at his position than Rice at his. There should be no comparison. The Cowboys already have taken the PR hit for taking Hardy so in that regard, it would be much easier for the Cowboys to do it once again and they still might at some point before OTAs.

I'm not comparing their talent, I'm just stating the fact that teams could use both guys but won't consider it due to their DV histories.

The media reports and what we "know" is not gospel. There is always a part of the story that we don't hear about. We don't have access to all the information that the coaches/owners/authorities have. Asking if we would resign him with incomplete information isn't even a fair question.

I'm not naive enough to believe everything the media says. However, based on the information that we have at our disposal, it's a fair question to ask considering we're the public, and we understand the amount of public backlash he's received. Whether we're on forums, ESPN/NFL.com comments section, Facebook, etc. we know how much of a PR nightmare he's become.

It took Hardy a while to get in playing shape and was never in top physical form. If they want Hardy's best, he has to be with the team during the offseason to be in top physical shape. He had not played a game for a long time when they signed him and he was really rusty.

The DV charge has been dealt with and is in the past. Let it go. The Cowboys still may pick him up again so chill.

Confronting an assistent coach during a game didn't help his cause either. Bonehead things like this are why he is unemployed now, not the DV charge.

I'm not comparing their talent, I'm just stating the fact that teams could use both guys but won't consider it due to their DV histories.

The Cowboys already have given Hardy a try despite his DV history. That won't be a fator for the Cowboys unless he does it again. There are other reasons he is not with the Cowboys now. As for Ray Rice, his career was just about done anyway. He's definately done now.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree. Something smells rotten in Denmark with his dismisal in Dallas. There is something that we aren't being told about that has the FO hesitant to re-sign him. Depending on how the draft goes, I think there is still a chance he get re-signed by Dallas.

Meh, color me less than enthused at the idea of bringing a guy in his position back who couldn't even put the effort in to get into shape. This in addition to all the other issues.

In all honesty, Hardy did not recieve the support from the fans, media or team when he came to Dallas. He was label as a woman beater by people that has no ideal what the truth is. Dallas was fine with him after meeting with him. So was I , but the media and most fans really turned on him when he didn't come in and get 2 sacks a game.

If that's what you're basing it on, then I stand by what I said. To me it just looks like you don't like the way he talks.

Nothing to do with "how he talks" has to do with multiple incidents over a year that obviously show where his head is at. If you can't see that and want to close your eyes because he can get some sacks, good luck. Hey but I'm sure Drew Pearson and others who heard from multiple players that he was a locker room problem were just making it up. Enjoy the other conspiracy theorists who just thinks he hung with wrong people and just was saying stupid stuff over and over due to 99% of people with facts not understanding him. I'm not a JG fan at all but that guys tries to pump up anyone and he wouldn't touch Hardy questions with a 10 ft pole when asked

The DV issue complicates things but it is not the problem. How could it be? There is nothing new re: DV and it is one year + remote now. The Cowboys took that hit. The issue is what happened between Hardy and Coach. We don't have any idea where money is in the equation but you can bet its in there somewhere.

Not going to bother responding to something that is 98% not related to what I was talking about. And also ignores quotes that directly contradict what is said.

All the reports are saying the same things and you think the majority of what's being reported is wrong? Do you have any proof you can provide that the majority of what's being reported is wrong?

I could easily ask you the very same question. What proof is there that the
"media" is telling us us the entire truth
regarding this matter? What we know
is limited and skewed at best. Only thing
that appears to be clear. is an assualt did take place police responded an
arrest was made but does not mean
he did it! Let us not forget that these
"relazionships" are based on deception

Actually the proof is there if people want to read it. Hardy's accuser gave a sworn police report saying one thing and gave sworn testimony in the initial hearing that completely contradicted her police report. That is why the DA dropped the case without trying to get a plea bargain, if this case was anything but an NFL player accused of DV everyone would be laughing at how big a joke the charges were.
