News: DMN: Stephen Jones: Cowboys will be ‘efficient’ in free agency

Yet the moves Dallas has made is what got them close and now they are to change what is actually working as opposed to going back to the old ways of over paying? There are some decent option out there like a Trent Cole and others who will not cost Dallas big time. This organization has been doing a great job that is why we are where we are and that should not change.

The goal is to win the Super Bowl. guys like Romo and Witten don't don't have time to wait on you to take your time building. they need you to be all in about winning a Super Bowl. need to bring in some big time F-Agents to help put this team over the top. Hardy or Suh, would be fine with me.

Free agency doesn't win you Super Bowls ask the Dream team how it worked out for them.

Apples and oranges. They went hog wild and rebuilt their entire team there.

We're talking about adding one key player to a 12-4 team that was this close to the NFC Championship Game.

Exactly, that rookie DE will put it together just in time to attend Romo's retirement party.

And you would get 'Trent Cole production':

3 sacks in 2012
8 sacks in 2013
6.5 sacks in 2014

What a 'difference-maker'...

and what price would you pay Hardy? Playing great defense is not about individual sack numbers it is about putting a solid unit on the field. If Dallas can get Hardy on a deal of an avg of 8 mill a year great do it. If we are talking 10 to 12 mill a year forget it.

Yes it is about winning SB and you have no clue as to when Romo will be gone. It is also about having a team who can compete at a high level over the long haul not some one year deal where you try to win it all. That strategy does not work, when teams have done things like this they do not win. Skins have tried it so have the eagles and the results were very poor.

One key player that takes up 1/3 of the salary cap. No thanks. Build via the draft.

During a Tuesday radio interview, Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones was asked if the franchise will be active in free agency.

Dallas isn’t expected to break the bank for any of the market’s big names. However, the Cowboys will be searching for affordable options with some upside.

That plan worked well last year when they signed defensive end Jeremy Mincey to a two-year, $4.5 million contract. Mincey went on to record a team-high six sacks during the regular season and added … [visit site to read more]

How much power does Stephen have compared to Jerry?

And that party is when? You have no clue and these exaggerated comments are a bit much

Neither do you, and neither do the Cowboys. He takes a good shot and it could be this year.

Fact is that the Cowboys never saw the end of Aikman's career coming either and were totally and utterly unprepared for it. And spent the better part of the next decade paying for it.

We played that game with Jared Allen last year and didn't overspend and he walked. Hardy will probably do the same unless he really wants to be here. The days of setting the market on these FA's is over.

and we were fortunate he did.
jared allen was pretty bad last year with 5.5 sacks and poor versus the run.

True no one knows, any player could take 1 shot and it is over. If you want to have a chance at a replacement then do not spend insane money on Hardy or Suh. You guys are looking for 1 year I'm not and glad the Cowboys are not looking at 1 year and then spend time at the bottom. NE and other top teams have managed to make themselves relevant without having to get every high priced FA that hits the market and because of that they are able to stay highly competitive and give themselves a chance. I don't want the quick fix evidently you do and that is fine

I agree. I think there is a better way to build a team who can compete without the headline splash signings. More times than not teams are not making it to the top because they went out and signed some FA a boat load of money.

Casual fans want the quick fix big name instant gratification. Jerry use to oblige, but fortunately for the Cowboys has changed his ways.
