Dustin Vaughan Looked Awful

He looked woefully bad

I was hoping Vaughn would at least accidentally throw a TD pass. I felt that was his only hope of salvaging his performance. I think most of his passes were intended for Vikings DBs, but the Cowboys receivers had great coverage and were able to break up the passes.

It is a bad syndrome. Aside from when Parcells was here, Wade Wilson has been Jerry Jones' QB coach.

Jones does not know what makes a good QB. And Wilson could not develop one if his life depended on it.

Yeah, maybe. I don't know if Wilson is any good or not. He might be awful, but what QB's have been here for any significant amount of time, and then went on to excel under another coach? I mean, it's not like we're bringing in major talent at the position. You think Wilson is ruining them?

Thought you were above such zero sum sentiments. Your boy played poorly too. High throws and slow making reads is not a recipe for success.

4 pass attempts/two series in garbage time tells me that the team is likely only going to carry two quarterbacks. Neither one of them are ready for the big time.

Nice slight attempt with the "your boy" comment, though. Cute.

Regrettably, I agree.

Cut him and see if he makes it through waivers. He is definitely a PS guy.

They're both practice squad candidates. The only way I could see keeping Showers is if he's going to double as a utility guy/special teamer. He could serve as a quarterback in an emergency, but the special teams have to be the kicker.

I don't think he's got the skins on the wall to unseat our current gunners/ST'ers -- Heath, McCray, Dunbar, etc.

Slight? You aren't a fan of Showers?

It reads that way to me.

I think that you are using such a zero sum relativism with Showers vs Vaughn. Oh noes. I do it more than a little with the injustice that is Bishop vs Hayden. I think along the same lines as Nate Newton about the QBs. Just because I'm confrontational doesn't mean I don't respect you though.

Time to stop wasting time with Vaughan. Whatever they thought they saw at one point was obviously a mirage. The guy has no awareness and looks like he doesn't even want to be there.

At this point, I'm going with just two quarterbacks unless a capable third option shakes loose from another team, which is likely. But based on the two young guys they have in Vaughan and Showers, I cutting Vaughan and putting Showers on the practice squad.

I was at the game last night. He's terrible. Wide open guys, easy check downs, all missed.

Time to end the experiment.

I said a couple of months ago this was his time to prove he had a future here. It was all on him and can't blame anyone else for his failure here. Time to move on to a new project.

This is absolutely true. Despite every opportunity, Vaughan has shown absolutely nothing. He's completing barely half of his passes, has 2 interceptions and nothing close to a touchdown pass, and his numbers fell off a cliff after his first game against San Diego. Instead of getting better, he's getting worse.

Not only shouldn't he be on the 53, he would be a waste of a practice squad spot. Not only should he be cut, he should be banished from the league. He has zero business putting on an NFL uniform. If the team were insistent on having a #3 quarterbacks, there have to be plenty of better options, as Vaughan is completely incapable of handling the requirements of the NFL game.

If Romo goes down for a game or two are you counting on Weeden to get it done?

I'm not

Well, not like we have any better options on the roster, sadly.

Got to muster up that same optimism I had back in the Campo days hoping for a win if Weeden has to play in the regular season.

Me neither but I don't think that anybody that we can pick up of the scrap heap at this point is going to help. Best case scenario is drafting a Romo replacement early next year.. even then that doesn't mean he's going to be ready right away or any good.
