Thomas wants to get paid. He claims he's been playing at a discounted rate and "sacrificed" to keep the "legion of boom" together. So, its not just a matter of Earl wanting to come play for his hometown team. He is currently slated to make 10.4 million this year which is why nobody is offering Seattle much in trade. Add that to his comments about being underpaid at 10.4 million and you have some idea where he wants to go with his next contract. He's not coming cheap or at a discount.

It's 8.5 Mil if I'm not mistaken. The 10.4 is his cap hit. 1.9M of that was signing bonus which I believe he has already received. But I don't think that is being underpaid.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Patriots trade for Earl Thomas and sign Dez Bryant and go on to win the Super Bowl.

Yeah the Pats always seem to be able to sign whoever they want, whenever they want, regardless of who else wants him and what the situation is.

I suspect cheating, like when Seau "retired" then immediately signed with the Pats, despite protestations that he was done with football.

"Seau announced his retirement at an emotional press conference on August 14, 2006. He called it his "graduation", because he was not going to stop working. He contended that he was merely moving on to the next phase of his life.[17]"

Seau returned to football just four days later, signing with the New England Patriots."

Try 13. He thinks he should be paid like Eric Berry.

Yeah, for the life of his contract. But Berry's guarantees run out after 2019. He may never see the last 3 years of his contract. But the first three years has him averaging 14M per. That might be a bit steep.

He will help the team. I don't care about the rest of the BS. If salary is reasonable then we should sign him.
If his salary and time are reasonable, I wouldn’t want anything over 2-3 years guaranteed and I wouldn’t even be crazy about that.

Dallas' history with free agents over the last few years has been mediocre, at best. Hardy, Bell, Carroll, Paea, Thornton, Looney, Gachkar just to name a few. Have gotten a couple of decent ones but given their history, why would anyone expect ET to be great here?

If I were the giants id get ET and pair him with Landon Collins and resign Hankins

Boom. Instant upgraded defense.

I like Earl and the guy leaves it all on the field but he’s old for a safety, as mentioned he’s had an injury history as of late, he’s going to want a FAT contract and I’m not digging this holdout B.S. Also don’t want the Cowboys sending anything better than a 3rd rounder for him, which I doubt will get the deal done. Let another team overpay for him:

Spreading the word, which I'm sure is what Thomas hoped for in his writing.

I think what this boils down to is how steadfast ET is willing to hold out. I have no doubt it will continue all through training camp but what happens when he starts losing paychecks due to missing games? My gut tells me that he's willing to hold out through games as well to force Seattle's hand, but you never know. It could just be a ploy. But if he starts missing games, it would be stupid for Seattle not to lower his asking price. If that DOES happen, and if the Cowboys WERE to get him for lower than a 2nd, I think he would be plug n' play ready to step in.

And the rest of the NFL world reiterates two things for Earl Thomas “either show up, play and honor your contract or don’t play and shut the hell up”.

The more this guy opens his mouth the less I like him. I hope he gets traded to some scrub team like the Jets, I don’t want him here.
This is how you have to be in this violent sport. Get all the money can and get what you are worth. Not sure why that's foreign to some of you.

My hesitation is that he is playing the Seattle doesn't respect me card and the only way to "respect him" is to give him a large pile of money........and , in my opinion, he has made comments that hint at the prospect of him playing more cautiously. He claims to be greatly affected by the injuries to Richard Sherman and Cam Chancellor. So, is he going to bring the legion of boom to Dallas or just use us to milk whatever he's got left while doing his best to avoid injury.

I think we all have our ""gut feeling" on various factors in all of this, and any and all could be accurate or not. In terms of whether or not. Thomas would actually hold out and miss game checks? I can honestly say that I have jo idea if he has that resolve or not. I can also say I'm not sure of things get to that point.

My own gut feeling is that Seattle's leverage and asking price goes down the longer this thing hides, not up. Everyone now knows the deal and the problem they have with their player. And they also know the cost of a new contract. Given those two things, Seattle doesn't have a whole lot of negotiating leverage.

Of those only Hardy really seems comparable to Thomas as far as superstar expectations. But that history alone is enough to give you pause.

Yeah, that's why I said I mostly agreed with him. He seems to imply that he should be treated somewhat special due to what he gave the team, but realizes that isn't the way it is. This isn't major league baseball. There is a cap in the NFL and it has no room for respect money. S. Berry will probably never see the last 2-3 years of his contract even if they win the next two SBs. These guys have to know this. That said, ET knows this and is doing all he can do to combat the way things are. I can't blame him in the last year of his contract.
