Elite run game is more about the OL then an elite RB

Cheap RB typically don't help as much as a great RB. Just take Bijan and run the ball down defenses throats.
Cheaps probably the wrong word…average priced FA and / or mid round draft picks is better.

We can get great RB with that behind a good OL.

Yea, that and an elite running game isn’t even necessary in todays league. You just need to run the ball well.

There are zero examples of “elite” RBs being the reason their team won the super bowl the last 10 years.
But Dak’s our QB.

Look at the 2 SB teams, arguably the two best offensive lines in the entire league. The Chiefs did not give up a single sack against a defense that had 85 in the regular season. Biggest reason why they beat the Eagles, was cause they were able to run the football effectively. They did this with a former 7th rd running back, where they aren't picking up the 5th yr option on 1 they drafted in the 1st rd. Eagles run game was the best in the business, not only was it hard enough facing a read option QB, but they were able to keep him clean all season long.

If the Cowboys want to return back to an elite running team, it's about shoring up their OL first, replacing Zeke will a legitimate option to complement Pollard. I wouldn't hurt to use Dak's legs as well.

With the news yesterday, Tyron coming back, Steele ahead of schedule, I would target either Ethan Picoc from the Browns who was rated the 5th best center and played under Scott/Solari in Seattle or John Michael Schmitz in the draft. I fully understand Biaz is improving and just came off a pro bowl season, but we need an elite Center to reach that next level.

As for running back, I think with a deep class, we can find a very good prospect somewhere on day 2. Charbonnet, Bigsby, Evans all would be excellent fits.
That is why I think the Cowboys should consider Washington, tight end with the 26th pick. The Cowboys appear to be going with Tyron at tackle and Tyler at guard. I just don’t see them drafting a guard at 26 when in their minds they are set at on the offensive line. Hopefully they draft a running back in the 3rd and 4th round that can split Carries with Pollard. The Cowboys want to run a play action west coast offense. You need a tight end to make that work along with a stud second receiver and two running backs. This will be an offensive draft for the Cowboys.

I like Washington but he’s going to have to have an amazing combine for me to be open to him at 26. He looks like he has mediocre speed…like a mid 4.7s guy.

Huge reach if that holds true IMO.

I don’t see any of the TEs this year as legit 1st rounders.

I hear you. I think Washington is the tight end version of Tyler. He probably is not even a top 5 tight end receiver in this draft but at 6’6 270lbs the guy could develop into a Gronk type.

If he’s a Gronk like athlete…which I doubt he is.

Gronk also had much more college tape of being a legit receiving threat.

Yeah, I actually hope he does not show out at the combine. I just remember the days when we had Bennett killing people next to the right tackle. One of my favorite games was when we whipped the Eagles in the playoffs and Bennett cleared the way for Felix.

I agree. I think you keep throwing darts in the draft at the OL but it doesn’t need to be a OL full of first rounders.
Our problem has been continuously taking players who can't run block, players who are not strong enough. We tend to focus on light feet and 2nd level blocking ability instead of focusing on being able to dominate the LOS. That is our issue.

Not sure Washington is worth that pick and is a good fit for our offense. Yes, he is a good inline blocker, but he is really limited as a receiver. I could get excited about taking a top TE, but I see him more as a 2nd rd prospect.

We can’t play football and ask his arm to win us games. He isn’t capable of that in the post season against legit teams.
There’s an entire world of data / metrics that say he’s an above average QB and show otherwise. I’m not going to turn this into a Dak thread but feel free to message me if you’d like to learn more.

Yea, I’d prefer my Gs to be dogs that can anchor and push.

Handful of good options this year.
