I can hear gruden screaming and yelling in the offseason now and having all the skins fans talking superbowl till september again....

pound the rock...pound the rock...pound the rock.

Wow...smart move by the Skins if this is true. Gruden would have a blank checkbook to get whomever he wanted free agency-wise. I doubt that was the case here in Tampa.

However they would have to make an ultra-sweet deal since Gruden is still under the buy-out clause with the Bucs...easy money next season if he doesn't take another football job. Same with Bruce.

Hmmm.

Gruden makes sense. He knows the WCO and they would not have to scrap everything.

But Bruce Allen? Not so sure about that one. Isn't he related to George Allen?
George's son.

I think Gruden will stay in the MNF booth. He's a natural.

I wouldn't want to see Gruden in Washington.

I think he's a good coach and he's young. If he has success he could be there a while.

Well that sucks. We, as cowboys fans, loved Vinny.:laugh1:

Now I thought it would be shanny but if the above is true about Bruce Allen than maybe Gruden will indeed follow him there. I am sure Snyder will offer enough money to lure gruden away from MNF.

I like Gruden in the booth as well. Guy gets jacked really easy and makes for some good commentary.

I remember there was a team running an end-around or something and Gruden's voices picks up a little bit and Jaws jumps in "sit down John, I know you're getting all excited".

Don't laugh, that is just the kind of guy I could see Jerry loving because he would do whatever Jerry said and agree with everything Jerry said. Vinny has a great deal of success playing the role of Smithers.

Oh no, if Bruce Allen comes on, it is pretty strong that Gruden goes with him. They were like a package deal in Tampa.
And Oakland too.

Vinny Cerrato has a 0% chance of coming here in any capacity.

Hos you are no fun. Dream killer (to borrow a line from another thread).

He would be the perfect lap dog to divert attention from Jerry if things go badly and is easily silenced if things go well and Jerry wants the spotlight.

ESPN 980 CONFIRMING HE WAS HIRED!

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...g-bruce-allen/

"On the same morning that executive V.P. of football operations Vinny Cerrato has resigned, triggering speculation that Mike Holmgren or Mike Shanahan could be taking the reins of the Commanders, Jay Glazer of FOX has dropped a bomb on us, baby.

Glazer reports that Commanders coaches were advised today that the teams is in talks with former Raiders and Buccaneers executive Bruce Allen.?

"The arrival of Allen undoubtedly would trigger speculation that the next move would be to dump coach Jim Zorn and pursue Jon Gruden, who partnered with Allen both in Oakland and Tampa."

CONFIRMED -- ALLEN to Wash

This is the talk of the town in DC and Casserly was on 106.7. He pretty much stated that there is no way they could hire anybody this fast because of the first year of the Rooney Rule as regards to Senior Executives. Dan Snyder has to interview a minority candidate, so the idea that they signed anybody already is pretty much wishful thinking. Also, Gruden re-signed with ESPN committing to more broadcasting, but he supposedly, per Casserly, can walk away.

I do not think the Rooney Rule applies on a resignation....DURING the season. It is a loop-hole.

Cerrato resigns, Commanders hire Allen

The Washington Commanders have hired former Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Bruce Allen, shortly after executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato resigned, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Commanders already have complied with the league's Rooney Rule and have interviewed at least two minority candidates, an NFL source told Schefter.

A news conference was expected to be held Thursday afternoon to announce the hire.

Cerrato

In a statement released by the team Thursday morning, Cerrato said he has had numerous conversations with team owner Daniel Snyder over the last few weeks about the team's future.
"We agreed that the franchise needs someone different in this position," Cerrato said in a statement released by the team. "I'm thankful to Dan Snyder and other members of his ownership team for the opportunities I've been given over the years."

The resignation was first reported by ESPN 980 in Washington.

Allen's father, the late George Allen, coached the Commanders in the 1970s and led the team to Super Bowl VII.

Cerrato, who has been highly criticized for his player personnel moves, has been Synder's right-hand man for nearly all of Snyder's 10 years as owner of the Commanders.

For the past two seasons, Cerrato has held the post of executive vice president of football operations. This year's Commanders are 4-9 and have struggled in part because of a lack of depth along the offensive line.

"Of course, I am disappointed with this year's results, but I strongly believe that with outstanding draft picks and encouraging performance by our younger players, we have laid a strong foundation for the franchise," Cerrato said in the statement.

Cerrato added that he has "had the pleasure of working with some great coaches such as Joe Gibbs, Greg Blache and Sherman Lewis" -- notably leaving out the current coach, Jim Zorn, whose job status is also tenuous.

Cerrato has been a favorite punching bag for fans in recent years, receiving criticism often in tandem with Snyder. One fan infamously used a pair of signs to refer to the pair as "Dumb" and "Dumber" at a game this season.

Cerrato was one of the first major hires after Snyder bought the Commanders in 1999. He was fired in 2001 by coah Marty Schottenheimer after Schottenheimer was given control of football operations. A year later, Snyder fired Schottenheimer and rehired Cerrato.

Although Cerrato's title changed over the years, he remained a significant front office voice in player decisions. The results have been far from encouraging: The Commanders have won only one playoff game since 2000.

Cerrato's power within the organization increased after coach Joe Gibbs' resignation two years ago, and there have been plenty of hits and misses among his player choices.

This year, Cerrato gave Zorn an offensive line without a single reserve who played in the NFL last year -- even though two starters were coming off significant injuries. Both of those starters soon were out for the season, and the resulting scramble for a starting five hampered the development of the offense.

Cerrato was previously was a scouting and player personnel director for the San Francisco 49ers and recruiting coordinator at Notre Dame under Lou Holtz.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
