Yeah I knew he was fired there this offseason but I wasnt sure how long he'd been there. I know now that he got there in 2004. Yeah this isn't exactly something for the Skins to be all that thrilled about. This guy is terrible at his job.

Bruce Allen was with the Raiders from 1996-2003, and was the architect of the Superbowl team that lost to Tampa.

He and Gruden worked together in Oakland and then Tampa

Essentially the Glazers closed up their wallets when they went out and bought Manchester U in the English Permier Leauge.

Bruce Allen shouldn't have a problem with that in DC :)

This doesn't guarantee success for the Commanders, but this is a step in the right direction of becoming a respectable franchise again. Still a very long ways to go and I am in the "lets see what happens" stage now, after the elation of this morning

Except that Tweedle Dum (Snyder) still remains. I wouldn't make playoff predictions until I knew who was replacing Cerrato and Zorn.

Exactly... over the past 10 years of the Snyder administration, they've had plenty of "greatest days" that they have since conveniently forgotten about, including:

Hiring Marty Shottenheimer (which also brought about Vinny's first firing)
Signing Deion, Bruce Smith, etc.
Hiring Steve Spurrier
Luring Joe Gibbs back out of retirement

The constant in all of that

Vinny Cerrato and Dan Snyder running the show (well except for 2001)

Step 1 to fixing the Commanders was getting rid of Vinny

Step 2 bringing in a solid football guy who has a good reputation.

Now lets see what happens. Its no longer hopeless

Bringing in Gibbs was supposed to fix all that as well.

And for the most part, that was the best 4 years of the decade

2 playoff apperances a 10 win season and a playoff win.

Not the Superbowl apperances we thought, but it was a professional organization.

The problem Gibbs had was he never had a good personnel front office man. However the organization was far more respectable and focused on football then in any of the other years with the 2 bozos at the top running the show

With Vinny gone, you get rid of the problem. That was always step 1.

Step 2 is bringing in a guy who knows how to run an NFL front office and can set the tone for the organization

There are tons of other questions, and there is no guarantee of success at all. What has happened is the black cloud joke has been lifted from the franchise. Now lets see what happens

Brian Mitchell was happy as hell on 106.7 just now. He hated Cerrato and pretty much called him out for back-stabbing him without even knowing him, as well as running the organization into the ground. He was also saying that he had no respect in the league, whether from owners or GMs and has no idea how he got in with Danny in the first place. Cerrato has been blasted here and seems to be hated by everybody.

Brian Mitchell, and Doc Walker as well, have no business being behind a microphone. Both are terrible.

Not much shocking here outside of people actually liking Gruden in the booth... Really?

I guess talking up every player in the NFL and declaring that x guy is "A PLAYER" is good to some people. It's nauseating to me personally. I tune both Gruden and Jaws out as best I can.

Cerrato is the guy who scouted and got the niners to draft owens.

that is about the only talent he has ever found. And look how that turned out.

I cant imagine he gets another job in the immediate future.

Yeah I can't imagine how you guys wouldn't be ecstatic over this, no matter how it turns out. Probably similar to how most of us felt when Parcells got off the plane after a decade of Jerry Ball.

Commanders hire Bruce Allen

The Washington Commanders have moved very fast in filling the void left by today's resignation of Vinny Cerrato.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Commanders have hired Bruce Allen as their executive vice president and general manager.

A press conference is expected this afternoon to make the hiring official.

It is not clear how the Commanders could hire Allen so quickly without running afoul of the league's Rooney Rule. The Commanders may have quietly interviewed a minority candidate, or they may have given Allen a title that doesn't require Rooney Rule compliance.

The Rooney Rule is one of the dumbest things the NFL has come up yet. Good grief people, please get beyond the pigment of a persons skin already. In this day and age I can not imagine an owner passing over a candidate they think would be the best for their team because of the color of their skin. This is 2009 not 1809.

I think he is great in the booth. His enthusiasm is great. It brings some much needed life to the show.

Really? You must be a white guy. Hate it when white people have a problem with a rule that attepmts to level the playing field, how is the rule hurting anything? Exactly.

Yes, i am white.

How is a NFL mandated bias based on a person skin pigment leveling the playing field? How about this? We judge each person by their strengths and weaknesses and their character. How about we do that the leave the race mongering to those who have made a career out of it. Not sure why you think I would be interested in what color you are.

I don't get why you guys are so bitter at the Commanders fan having hope. At least the Commanders are addressing one of their issues. The Cowboys are moving forward with the status quo and we're only slightly less mediocre than they are right now. The hypocrisy is hilarious.

They should institute the rule for running-backs. There is not one single white running back in the NFL...wonder why?

Isnt like 70% of the league African-American?

Bottom line is here-- Hire the best man for the job period.
