Newman is a good corner. My third time saying that. But Cowboy fans are so freaked out by anything negative said about their pet peeve players. I would like to see how he does when teams start game planning to attack him. I think only the Skins have done it and had alot of success.
While Henry may have not worked out too well, he was very good in 2006. I remember him playing well, and you can see the big drop off in 2007 and 2008 in his play. Look at Al Harris' 9.7 YPA in 2007. Harris is opposite of Woodson.
Henry's 2006 YPA of 6.7 YPA ranked 20th in the NFL according to Joyner.
Henry's success percentage was 45% that year (2006). Henry was the most targeted CB in the NFL according to Joyner, and he was very successful in defended the 100+ passes directed his way when you look at his %. Yet, the NFL kept targeting him and avoiding Newman.
Again, a success percentage over 40% is considered good or quality for Joyner's comparisons.
Only one CB has obtained a success percentage over 50% during the past three or four years.
That CB is Asomugha.
However, while Asomugha has proven to be tough to pass against, he will give up yards in big chunks if you complete a ball on him. His YPA shows this from 2004-2007.
Asomugha YPA from 2004-2007 *(didn't start until 2005):
7.5, 6.3, 6.9, 7.0 (AVG: 6.9) Asomugha's average was 10th in Vela's analysis. Newman's four year average was 2nd.
Jacques Reeves and Aaron Glenn were the two players getting roasted by Santana Moss, not Newman.
Newman is 2-0 vs Moss when it's man on man, all over the field.
Newman shut that little troll down, twice.
