Ah, but now you have the power to make it go bye-bye.
Then there would be claims of censorship...

No win situation.

Rather just let the thread stay, and let the other mods track it.

From what I Read the Cowboys were only interested in Limas Sweed and James Hardy and that Jerry wanted to trade back into the Second round and the Scouting Dept told him the Value just wasn't there.

Jerry shouldn't take a WR just because there is a need. That is how we drafted in the 90's.

Remember, David LaFluer, Clay Shiver, Quincy Carter, Shante Carver, etc.

All of these were wasted draft picks, just because we needed a player at a certain position.

We now know that the Cowboys were targeting Limas Sweed in the 2nd. They thought he would be there and he wasn't, so Jerry and Co. went back to their board and took the player that was the best fit instead of reaching. Good move IMO.

Jerry has learned from his mistakes thankfully, and he is drafting better. I don't have a problem with the Bennett pick.

I'd agree, but if that's the case, we took Bennett based on a need for a TE after trading one away. So that argument doesn't really hold much water either.

I also don't remember them saying they were targeting Sweed. I remember them saying they thought about moving up for Hardy and would have taken Sweed IF he was there for our pick.

The answer was simple. Keep Fasano and draft Earl Bennett instead of Martellus. This guy is a joke.

I think they took BPA who filled a need and did not have to give up another pick in doing so.

Everybody drafts/trades for needs. Everybody, every year. Why did we draft corners this year? Why did we draft Felix? Hell, why did we draft Bennett?

I'm not saying we should have drafted a WR this year but saying you shouldn't draft for need doesn't even make sense.

Now should should reach for someone like spending a 2 on a 7th round QB like Quincy? No. But draft for need? absolutely.

I think you are trying to do both, BPA that fills a need.

Everytime you see a thread like this, remember this... it should have been a thread that had actual content and didn't need to just rehash for the sake of rehashing. Dumb post IMO

What's dumb is complaining but not providing solutions. Doesn't matter where they went in the draft, who would you have taken?

I think need plays a part especially early picks in the draft where teams try to get them in the mix as soon as possible with the exception of QB and even they are being rushed into action now days more so than in days past.

Well they took the best player on their board, perhaps. We won't know if he was BPA for some time.

We obviously aren't too shy about spending picks if we want a guy. We took Walden with the 1st pick in the 6th round, when he may well have gone undrafted. We spent a 4th round pick on Stanback last year, to convert another QB to WR, and have basically given him a two year pass. If we wanted a WR, we could have gotten one.

Yes if Dallas wanted a WR we could have gotten one but evidently there was none around our pick that Dallas felt strongly about.

As for the BPA yes in hind sight we will see if the scouts were right when they put their board together but on draft day what they saw was the BPA that would also fit a need. So in my opinion they were correct for doing it instead of trading picks away to move up to get a WR they were not crazy about to start with.

What is dumber to get a player you really or not sold on or to get a player you evidently had ranked higher?

Well apparently they were crazy about Hardy and would have taken Sweed, Hardy would have taken some doing but Sweed wouldn't have taken nearly as much since he was picked only a couple ahead. I'm not saying they should have done it, but they were certainly interested in both guys.

Why am I replaying Tommy Boy in my head?? ;)

Look, I simply disagree with you and that was my funny way of putting it. I think it akin to putting your swing set to close and facing the side of your house. It is just too soon to talk bust or not. We have failed on many a 2nd round pick, another won't break us. All these threads are the product of two hard knocks episodes and one article from a guy that never talked to him.
