Obviously that is not designed for playing sports. I posted that pic in a discussion about springs and dampers.

There are a multitude of possibilities for designing devices for this condition. Just search AFO and you'll see many variations. Most of the available ones had to be made within some reasonable cost range. With the Cowboys budget they could get even more high-tech designs.

The picture barely shows any difference in the left leg and right leg. Where would you fit such a contraption?
There may be space for a think molded device but those probably can only provide some support and make sure the foot does not drop.

PSA: Please ignore KJJ and his mindless, "I don't believe it," nihilist blanket dismissals. Incredulousness is not an argument and nothing you say will stop him from repeating himself and writing walls of text in place of honorable argument.

He just wants the attention and adds nothing of substance.

Do you think calling me out is adding something of substance? LOL All anyone has to do is check our debating history to see who knows what they're talking about. Get me out of your head and climb back in your hole.

Jobberone is a doctor and know more about neurology and orthopedics than just about everyone here.

He has given his opinion about Jaylons progrees and people have poopooed it.

so has doc50 and rockdoc
and they happen to mostly agree.
i presume rockdoc is a doc lol

Right, my guess is this video was without an AFO.
If there was an AFO, it is not the type he had but one that is far less stiff/protective - that only provide some support and protection.
It is hard to believe Jaylon's degree of control shown in the video is due to an AFO.
Obviously, I don't know. But I do hope you're right. Crystal can move her foot a great deal now, but not that quickly.

My individual experience says that he has regained a great deal of control and range but is wearing a light weight AFO that gives him greater strength and consistency.

Time will tell. I hope he comes back at 100% because he caneeds be a genuine difference maker.

I am no doctor, just personal opinion.
The key is more and more of the docs are saying he is doing well and should expect a good recovery...
Do you have a picture of the lightweight AFO?

Hmmm...I don't have a picture. But I'll get one next time I'm at her house.

The injury was about 12 years ago. 4 months in a complete vegetative state. We were told to put her into long term nursing care, but we brought her home.

About 4 months after coming home she started to track us with her eyes. Then, within a few months, she started waking up. It was like watching a kid grow up on fast foward. She was learning to walk with in the year. Talking. ..reading. .and writing. Many, many trials and struggles and surgeries since then.

How far has she come now?

She is married and has a 5 year old girl.

She forgoes the AFO most of the time. Her gait with or without the AFO is fairly heavy. Jaylon doesn't move like crystal at all...but he sure looked like he did last april.

Glad to hear your daughter recovered so well. Thanks for the perspective.

I was just agreeing with a poster that there might be ways to implement the AFO device that we have not seen.

I didn't say that Jaylon was wearing one. Obviously there is a limit to how bulky it could be.

One thing I could envision is a type of rubber cast that is flexible enough to allow the ankle to flex but that would have enough tension to bring the foot back up. Obviously it would require a lot of engineering to get it just right.

why not just tape his feet like they have been doing?

I dont know if he will end up needing an AFO.
But the nerve researchers I know worry about injuries to his ankle if the nerve have some moments of loss of strength when he gets tired. She said something about it could just 'give' sometimes even with a ~100% recovery.
Think ankle protection may be needed.

Are people expected to know that? If he says he is a Doctor, then I believe it.

It's gets into a slippery slope on a message board because for every legit Doctor that posts and gives his credentials, then there will be some other posters that will start claiming to be Doctors.

Do you remember the year's where there were a large number of people here that basically every one of their posts was a claim of inside information about the Cowboys?

If you have been around and have average reading skills I don't think it is an unfair standard of expecting people to know that. He has talked about it extensively including in this thread

Jobber is not random message board poster. I think he has built up more than a little credibility.

Are you saying that @waldoputty and I have below average reading skills?

If you say he said it I'll take your work for it, but even in this thread I didn't see him specifically say that he is a Doctor; although, I'm sure I have not seen every page of the thread.
