I think people are overreacting to the top line dollar amounts. Beasley would have cost about 2.5MM on the tender offer and will probably count 2MM or less against the cap next year. 7MM guaranteed over 4 sounds like a lot but its basically a bit more than the minimums for that time frame. Think of the Barry Church contract, its somewhat similar.

Bid against ourselves.

Beasley is more valuable to us than he is to any other team. There was no reason to guarantee 7m.

It's not even about that he's a #3 receiver, it's that we don't utilize the guy nearly enough.

I'm happy to have him back, and it's ultimately a reasonable deal, but if you're bringing him back then they better have a plan to use the guy.

He's a 3rd down conversion animal. Forget 2nd or 3rd WR.

Chain movers are valuable to any team with a decent QB. Beasley would have had league-wide value if and when he hit the market.

IDK, a good slot WR that has shown something in the playoffs seems like they would get that much. There is so much non-tampering tampering in the NFL with back channel communications that I would bet the Cowboys had a sense of what offers he would get. But who knows. The main thing to me is his cap hit next year is only 1.6MM like @mickswag posted.

Haha, are people really complaining about this deal? Really?

How the hell are we going to work around that 7 million guarantee in the future? I think this deal is what broke the camel's back. We're in even more of a cap hell now with this big fat signing.

Wow...that seems like a lot of money to me, for a guy with 37 catches for 420 yards?
I guess the Cowboys don't think guys like Beasley can be found later in the draft because they only offered Murry 4 years for 16 million, and you can't tell me that Beasley is anywhere near as valuable or hard to replace as Murray.

It's not a ton of money, team or cap wise, but damn, color me shocked that he got that contract. I think those little quick guys are available every year in the draft...Beasley wasn't drafted at all. Hard for me to believe we couldn't have replaced him on the cheap in the later rounds.

But I'll just trust that Linehan has some additional plans for the kid.

I'm talking about when he was with the Rams. He got his contract based off his Rams production. He's been injured every since he got to New England.

He never broke 700 yards with the Rams - I swear he is a unicorn :).

It's a good deal if they will use him. Quit throwing downfield on 3rd and 3. Let Beasley beat LBs across the middle for first downs in those situations and two years from now, this deal will be a steal.
Love Beas in those short yardage situations...but
didn't Dallas have the best 3rd down conversion rate via the pass in the whole league?
I think they were pretty good at it already.

We released Crayton after the 2009 season, before Beasley, who came along with big time slot potential?

And you guys make it sound so easy. "We can just find another slot receiver late in the draft!", that's exactly what people are saying about Murray. "We can find another stud RB in the third round!".

If only it were that easy.

Ammendola a #1 ? He has like 800 yards and 3 TD's since being in New England :).

True.
No scenario where Amendola was ever a true #1 WR.
I guess if the rest of the WR crewwere JAGS, he'd be the #1 by default...but that is not a true #1 by any means.

Yeah but last 5 games regular season he had 19 of them for 211 yards and 3 TDs. Hopefully Linehan keeps creating ways of getting him that kind of production and he'll be well worth this deal which the team can get out of in 2 years for nothing, but he could also earn the whole thing.
