Former Bears GM Angelo rates Romo 15th best QB in 2013

QBR (an ESPN specially made stat) as listed in Gavin pencil d..uh, I mean...neck Dawson is not QB rating as stated by regular NFL stats.
In other words, Romo does not have an 80 QB rating in the 4th qtr. It's actually over 100...and the highest in NFL history.

And I notice to cherry picked a little blurb from the Chris Chase artical. Notice you did not select his other article entitled " “Indisputable proof that Tony Romo is clutch”.

Gotcha, thanks. Good example of twisting stats to fit an agenda.

Romo's the highest-rated 4th quarter passer in the league and has a ton of game-winning drives to boot.

BUT let's shorten his career from 2006-13 to 2010-13 AND split up the 4th quarter into 2 inequal increments AND use ESPN's Total QBR instead of the traditional QB rating used by everyone else in any other setting and SEE!?! Romo stinks!

What a joke.

Notice how the guy didn't call it "Total QBR", he incorrectly labeled it as "quarterback rating" so that people would think he's referring to the traditional rating.

Why? Because an 81 "quarterback rating" is mediocre by today's standards while an 81 TOTAL QBR is OUTSTANDING. Like astronomically good.

So this is his ammo: in his cherry-picked time frame and in his cherry-picked inequal 4th quarter increments, Tony Romo is OUTSTANDING as a 4th quarter passer for the first 80% of the 4th quarter before dropping to mediocre (not TERRIBLE, mind you... a 44 Total QBR isn't NEARLY as bad as a 44 quarterback rating) in the final 20% of the quarter.

OooOOOH, let's cut the bum!!!

..

He actually isn't lying. If you use Pro Football Reference, this is true. Also, quite a few sites have sourced the information coult provided.

Your stats are also true.

Personally, I feel like anyone can skew stats in their favor. For example, if you go back to 2010, Romo doesn't lead the league in game winning drives. And with the same token, if you skew coult44's 'final 3 minutes' to 'final 4 minutes' the numbers change in Romo's favor.

EDIT: Just so you are aware, the QBR Coult is using is not the standard metric the NFL uses but rather the ESPN metric. ESPN's perfect QBR is 100 and the NFL (the one which I consider official) is 158.3

Guys, again. For 6 years I was the biggest Romo supporter out here. I was the one on CZ and other forums having endless debates about Romo and how under appreciated he is. I was the one pulling out every stat there was on how good he really is. I've always been #1 ROMO Apologist. I'm still a Romo fan. I hope he turns things around and leads our favorite team to the the BIG ONE. Me, my wife, and my 4 kids all have Romo jerseys. My son's room is covered in Romo posters. Not that any of that matters to anyone, I'm just trying to point out that I'm not your typical "Romo Hater".
My change in attitude towards Tony started doing a big turn last season, and flipped completely during the last game of 2012 when he had the 4th quarter meltdown against the Skins.

NAV22, enough with the childish, personal attacks and insult spewing comments. If you don't agree, fine. If you want to debate, great. I'm not one who thinks everyone has to have the same opinion as me or they're dumb or stupid. My mind is open, and if you can prove me wrong, GREAT. I'm willing to change my feelings if they are proved to be incorrect. WIth that, I can assure you that I'm not one to make up anything at all. I don't throw out stuff and hope it sticks. I tell the truth and have no problem admitting to mistakes when I make them. With the internet and "GOOGLE" available to the world, why would I blatantly throw lies out there that could be easily found out. Argue and debate the facts. Leave the name calling, personal attacks, and other immature acts for the kids and non-Cowboys fans.

If you want to argue the stats with the number guys, feel free. I don't create or store them. If I find interesting numbers I'll throw them out there.I agree with Dejected that numbers can be found or spewed to back up most arguments, regardless of what side of the fence you're on. Just don't say stuff like "STAT'S DON'T LIE" then run and jump on your personal attack rants because a different number gets thrown back at you. I'll also keep in mind that that because I "know nothing" about football I should refrain from debating with folks like you. Wouldn't want to waste my time having good, albeit pointless football discussions regarding our favorite team!!!!

So where do you rank him? I have him somewhere in the 11-12 range. 9-10?

I put him at 6 in that post. He could slide a bit if Foles keeps doing what he did this year or if some of the other youngsters improve as pure passers, but for now I'll give the benefit of the doubt to the guy who's been in the top 10 for all 8 years he's been starting.

Parcells said that Romo is the kind of player that you have to keep reeled in because he is such a risk taker.

Since you're trusting Parcells' opinion, you should know that Parcells has also said that he KNOWS Romo has what it takes to lead a team to a championship.

Of course he can but he won't because Romo never learns from his past mistakes.

I would rank romo around 7-10. He's good but not great. 15 sounds like a slap in the face. And I'm not a romo lover.

Says you.

Says anyone using just a modicum of commen sense, and not looking for an excuse to prop up our guy while tearing someone else's guy down. I think Romo is a very good qb, and no matter where he ranks on these lists doesn't change that opinion. Why because I've seen him play every game of his career and know where this team would be without him. I also have watched Wilson play and agree that he is a very good qb. He deserves to be highly regarded and is not just Trent Dilfer, saying that or things like that weakens any point you are trying to make.

Perhaps he shouldn't throw INTs when the game's on the line.

Or lead game winning drives.

Oh yea...those don't count unless pigs fly, the sky turns yellow and the Browns win the SB...or some such made up criteria.

We get it. Romo sucks blah blah blah...

Luckily no one important agrees with you and he'll be starting next year. Would you like some cheese with your whine?

It's easy to forget about games where Romo heroically lead the team to victory, while having career threatening injuries, but that doesn't fit the narrative. With the season on the line and a back injury that would leave most people laying in bed, he lead us on a masterful game winning drive against the Commanders. He did the same thing with a broken rib and punctured lung against San Fran.

Your right. His teams only managed six playoff games in his 10 years and only one miserable Superbowl appearance.

He absolutely should have been fired. Any GM with anything less than that over a 10 year period should be considered incompetent, right?

;)

What color is the sky in your world where Millen managed 6 playoff games......................HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

After his playing career, Millen was President and CEO of the Detroit Lions from 2001 until week 4 of the 2008 NFL season. His eight-year tenure as head of the franchise led to the worst eight-year record in the history of the modern NFL (31-84, a .270 winning percentage),[4] and resulted in his termination on September 24, 2008.

I never said anything about Millen. All through that thread I was talking about Jerry Angelo.

Save all of your "HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"s for someone else.

LOL......................you do that, I am sure Matt Millen has a lot of knowledge he would like to share about being an NFL GM......................LOL

Reading comprehension my friend, where did I even mention Angelo?
