Former Bears GM Angelo rates Romo 15th best QB in 2013

Thanks for bringing up that buried memory. :(

Yea it gets buried and just looking at the box score makes it seem like we just got hammered all game, but not for me. It was 17-3 at the end of the 3rd quarter despite 3 backbreaking Romo turnovers. He turned it over at Minnesota's 30 on the games opening drive that would have shut that crowd up, instead he handed them what they needed. Then just 2 drives later he fumbles at our own 20, basically handing them another score. Despite that, the defense held in tight and kept the game within reach despite Tonny sputtering all afternoon, until he put the nail in the coffin at the end of the 3rd with a bonehead INT... And the flood gates opened in the 4th quarter.

But if only he had a good defense!!!!!

You clearly did not watch a second of the game.

QBs who without a doubt had a better year then Romo -

Peyton Manning (Possibly had the G.O.A.T regular season)
Aaron Rodgers (When he was healthy)
Drew Brees (Another solid regular season for Drew)
Philip Rivers (Bounce back year for him)
Nick Foles (27 TDs/2 INTS - Even though I thought he got lucky a lot, he had a great year)

QBs you could realistically make a case that had a better year then Romo -

Russel Wilson (Obviously benefits from his surrounding pieces, but still had a solid year - Dual threat)
Ben Roethlisberger (Started the year slow, but had a solid year nonetheless)

QBs you might be able to make a case for, but probably stretching -

Tom Brady (No weapons, but still didn't perform as his usual self, people would only rank higher due to his name)
Andrew Luck (Lost Wayne, but still didn't play at the level Romo did, though he did have a thriller playoff win)

QBs some will try to make a case for, but no way in heck played at Romo's level -

Colin Kaepernick (Must be hard having only 6-15 completions a game and winning by 20-30 points)
Cam Newton (Had a decent year, a very good running QB, but not as dangerous throwing the ball)

My QB Rankings based on last season -

1) Peyton Manning
2) Aaron Rodgers*
3) Drew Brees
4) Philip Rivers
5) Nick Foles

6) Tony Romo
7) Russel Wilson
8) Ben Roethlisberger
9) Tom Brady
10) Andrew Luck

11) Cam Newton
12) Colin Kaepernick

Rankings 6-10 could easily be switched around, though I honestly don't see how anyone could rank Romo 15th by putting guys ahead like Alex Smith, Cam Newton, Colin Kaepernick, Andy Dalton, ect; When someone is ranking like that, it seems obvious that their putting stock into their team's success, rather then the QBs individual play regardless of how the team performed.

-Inc ***!? on Tom Brady @ 9 :D

One thing that people tend to forget about Luck is that he also makes plays with his legs.

--He was 6th in rushing yards by a QB with 377
--He was tied for 2nd place with 4TDs with Kaepernick this season (behind Geno and Cam)
--Had better YPC than Kaep, Cam, Wilson, Geno, Griffin and Smith.

I don't think it's far off to say he had a better year than Romo.

My dad went to that game. He changed his mind about Romo after that game. I remain on the fence.

Only thing patently false is the instinct bit. Romo makes guys miss more than guys wayyy more athletic than himself and he does so from his blindside. That's instinct.

Also have an issue with a GM grading players mental toughness as if he is in the huddle.

Also Wilson looked like Romo scrambling on many plays in the plays to keep something alive, or on a designed rollout that the non injured Tony used sucessfully in the past

Like the last game of the season he played in a comeback road win vs Washington. :)

Just browsed through the thread, but in my opinion, I will wait awhile before I say that Nick Foles is better than Tony Romo. He had a good year, not even a full year at that. Let's wait until he does it consistently before we move him into the top ten shall we?

Alex Smith above Romo? Really? That's not even worth the discussion.

Despite the Super Bowls, Roethlisberger is at best equal with Romo as far as their levels of play at this point.

Overall I can understand some that question where Romo goes forward considering his back and the whole choke artist thing, but the bottomline is that the man has the highest 4th quarter QBR in NFL History. He racked up 27 thousand and some change yardage faster than any quarterback in NFL History. Considering how the teams he has played on save the 07 and 09 seasons were hot garbage, Romo has been the most underrated QBs in the league and putting him behind the likes of Smith and Foles is ridiculous.

I just can't buy anything that Jerry Angelo is selling. He's apparently some new, knowledgable media darling out there, when he single-handedly destroyed Lovie Smith's coaching career and the Bears roster in about 5 seasons.

Ahhhh yes. The classic if....If if if....Fact is, Romo has had many chances to prove everyone wrong over the years and hasn't. He's had the ball in his hands to change his perception and hasn't. So keep living in la la land thinking a good defense would change who he is at QB.

That's too funny. You are the one living in la la land. Eli Mannings is a changed man BECAUSE of the defenses he rode to the Super Bowl

Look at his numbers, better than Romo's. Hes been virtually unstoppable since he came in.

Nope, because he'd always melt when it mattered most. He'd always throw that pick against the Skins, those 5 against the lions, or drop the ball in Seattle. Some guys just don't have "it", Romo is one of those guys.

Man I didn't know quarterbacks could make boneheaded plays.. I guess to your standard all QBs suck then.

He made the wrong choice at QB. In the NFL, making the wrong choice at QB is doom.

He made A LOT of wrong choices on the offensive side of the ball, and lucked into a ton of guys on the defensive side.

Put Romo on the Giants and Eli on the Cowboys in 2007 and the Giants do not win at Dallas, they certainly wouldn't have won at Green Bay, and they definitely wouldn't have beaten the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Yes, Eli had a good defense but he made crucial plays throughout the playoffs and more importantly, he didn't turn the ball over, which is why he owns 2 Super Bowl MVP trophies as well.

Look at it this way. Now Kaepernick has established his base line for the next 10 years.

I agree.

Both he and Seattles QB have shortened the developmental curve as has RGIII.

We are still trying to reinvent Troy Aikman with Romo Soprano and its NOT working.

Negative , Wilson scrambles out of the pocket immedietly even when there is no pressure . Romo is a pocket passer first he escapes only if he has to .
