Is it just me or will Hard Knocks be a repeat this year. Tank Johnson, Roy Williams, an inept owner, and a primadonna WR. Seeems exactly like last year.

I wish Roy the best and hope getting back with Mike Zimmer can revitalize his career.

Me too. Wasn't going to happen here but maybe elsewhere. I loved watching him play when he was at his best.

Lets be clear here: many of the things said about Roy Williams were untrue at the time. The reason he can't get a job now is because he's a 29 year old safety coming off 2 injury plagued years. You're almost better off playing a 2nd-year player, as you'd get similar production.

Injury-plagued?

So that's the new excuse?

Whatever. I am too tired to argue.

The fanboys are right. He was just great. He really could cover. Honest. He was a great player and needs to be in the Ring of Honor one day. He was never overrated, undermotivated or out of shape.

Anyone remember the time we were playing the Titans at home and Roy and Steve McNair were sliding out of bounds and Roy gave his head an extra shove into some cabinet-like structure on the sideline? It knocked him out of the game.

What about the time he turned the Commanders punter's nose into a pig snout when he put his knee under his facemask? That just made me cringe. Roy used to be one hell of a player.

We all did.

Sadly, that didn't exist consistently after his first two years.

That's exactly what built his reputation. Great signature memorable plays that made everyone ooh and ahh.

Now, talk about those times he overpursued, or was exploited in coverage or looked clueless and started pointing fingers when a touchdown was caught in his area.

Remember the time Chris Brown owned him running for a TD in 2004? That was great. How about when he blew the tackle on Shaun Alexander late in the Seattle playoff loss? Those times made me cringe too.

Oh, I know.

I've been beaten to death with all of them - he wasn't a liability, he didn't have a target on his chest, he did more than tackle, etc.

Whatever.

I, for one, am glad that the team FINALLY recognized that he wasn't the player that his supporters claimed he was, and most of all, I'm glad that I no longer have to see his OVERPAID, no-covering, finger-pointing, horse-collaring, receiver-chasing, crybaby act playing out in a Cowboys uniform.

But, as you say, it was just injuries.

Step one: take a hard stance based off of largely unfounded misconceptions. Step two: predict the obvious. Step three, when obvious happens, take an unwarranted victory lap. Step four: if that's not enough attention talk about it some more and take one last shot at the people who disagreed with you. Step five: sit down and wait to see how the rest of RW career pans out.

Somebody wake me when Cowboyz88 gets to step 5.

That's not at all what I said. I'm just saying, lets not pretend that Roy Williams now is the same as Roy Williams over his career. Some people like to pretend that he was never good and that he was always useless. I'm not saying that you're one of those people, but that perception is out there.

We the fans of the NFL wish for a RE-DO for the Bengals. Please move them to L.A. and rename them the L.A. ThunderKatz.

Yeah especially if you live where I do and they always show the Steelers, Browns and Bengals games. One team that is good but as a cowboy fan I despise and two dead end organizations.

Injury-plagued is an exucse now? If anything, that sounds like an indictment. I can also dredge up the lost post I made way back when I pointed out what a liability Williams is in pass coverage.

The problem is that people like you want to look at everything in black and white. "No one wanted Roy on their team this year, therefore he's a bad player. Suck it, Roy Williams fanboys!"

He's a washed up player who will have to overcome a lot at this point to still make an impact on the league. That doesn't mean he wasn't being unfairly criticized at points in his career, however.

jeez, Alex, let it go

Oh I will.

Like I said, I am a bit tired of the subject.

I think vindication for his critics has been served by the fact it took him over a month to be signed by perhaps one of the worst franchises in the NFL. I don't wish him ill will. I hope he turns it around and closes his career out well. It would be sad if he cannot.

Where do you get off doing that? You might want to chill out about all that.

Critique RW - fine but leave the mans beliefs out of it.

Grow up a bit, is all im asking. All of you.

Since when do you folks start bashing a persons beliefs?

Agreed.

See, this is the only argument I wanted to dispute. I'm with you on the "Roy can't cover and the league has changed where safties have to be almost as good as corners". I argued the same thing back in the day.

But you can't use this "see, no one signed Roy, so I'm right" BS. That argument simply doesn't hold water, because you can't possibly say that 2009 Williams is the same as 2004-06.

Predict the obvious? Are you high?

I was in here questioning Roy's play and legend long before many joined the bandwagon. Try again.

I had to listen to people like you, the great Adam and many others question my knowledge of football or my ability to evaluate based upon my eyes for years.

On top of that, during my many rebuttals, I had to take shots from Adam's fan club, so excuse me if I dish it back out just a bit.

Somebody wake me up when Idgit can conjure up an original thought of his own.

This thread is classic already, but its only going to get better.

Roy should give half of what he's made to Darren Woodson.
