I read that they confirmed that Bran won't be a part of this season. I haven't read the books so I don't know what happens, but I'm guessing he'll disappear for a while and learn from those people in the trees and then come back when he's able to contribute something to the story.

I don't know why but I just can't really stand Danerys' storyline for most of this series. I enjoyed the part when she was building up her army and practicing justice and all. But lately she's in about 30 seconds each episode and she does nothing. I'm almost certain she won't die because they wouldn't waste her storyline, but I just really hope something happens soon. I'm getting tired of everyone saying how great she is. She's done nothing.

This season hasn't really featured her very much. It's been a lot of the stuff in the city, but her story has been much more interesting in seasons past than this season so far. I'm anxiously awaiting when she finally begins to refocus on taking the iron throne. Also curious to see how big of a factor her dragons play.

she's learning how to rule... son of the harpy is happening, so something more active will happen soon.

The backstory of Rhaegar is quite fascinating. He seems to have been noble, and respected. The defense of his character this week, & last... along with the defense of Eddard Starks character by Stannis was another confirmation that Lyanna & Rhaegar love was real, & defiant. The look that Little Finger gave Sansa when she continued with the old narrative was telling.

Once again, Greyscale plays a big role in the narrative. Ironic that Stannis burns people for their crimes like the doll he burned that was given to him by the vendor, which gave her greyscale.

And Melisandre... "To serve my lord" ..... while looking out towards Jon Snow...

This show has great subtext.

They went full out on the R + L = J. Was nice to see given it was pretty left untouched until now.

You can see they're stating to speed the show up a bit... only one more season under contract for the actors... and a commitment to do two from the show runners.... 7 season seems to be the goal.

The intro of the sand snakes was like watching a Saturday morning super hero cartoon, introducing new enemies... probably the worst directed scene I've seen in GOT yet.

I hope the sand pipers turn out more interesting in the show than the book because frankly I found that whole section in the book very boring. Also to this point it seems like they are going to skip a big portion of the greyjoy parts of the book with the lost brother/uncle coming back and so on.

Is this current season supposed to be on all of books 4 and 5? Since GRRM said he'd most likely write 7 books. I guess you could get it done in 2 more seasons then. Though you'd rush a lot of stuff.

Edit: So I've heard that the original plan was to have each season be equivalent to one book. That worked the first 2 seasons/books, but then book 3 was broken up into 2 seasons. And now, books 4 and 5 take place at the same time but with different characters, so they're more like one giant book. It would be a lot to squeeze into one book so they'll probably make it 2 seasons. They'd most likely need 8 seasons to do all the books. I don't know why they dragged out book 3 if they knew they had the actors for 6 seasons and the staff for 7.

They've already had quite a bit of books 4/5 in the last 2 seasons of the show (Theon & Bran in particular). They are skipping huge chunks of books 4 and 5 it looks like too. At the rate things are going, they should be pretty much at the end of book 5 this season, (Bran won't be since he is absent). Some characters are already beyond book 5 in a way, but they are essentially taking story elements that belonged to other characters.

Interesting. Thanks. I really need to read the books.

Interesting. Thanks. I really need to read the books.

Problem with one of the books was he decided to write about the sand vipers and Dorn, the Grey joys and some other stuff that was happening at the same time as the story lines in the previous book. So. You kind of had two different books that mostly focused on different characters and storyline ( with a few exceptions) at the same time line.

It. Appears the the show writers are trimming some of the fat from the books and in doing so they are catching up, and in some cases passing, the books.

I don't think Martin initially intended for the book series to be this long but I also think he made a decision later to drag it out more. I think he also stated that he had a good portion of one of the books done at one time but basically had to go back and relax do it for some reason. So now he is falling behind do the series even thigh the series writers know how the story generally goes and ends.

Yeah they definitely made one of the strongest hints about that this episode. It was something Stannis said when looking over the Nights Watch recruits as Jon was helping train.

Selyse(Stannis' wife): You think highly of this boy.

Stannis: Lord Commander of the Nights Watch.

Selyse: And a ******* by some tavern slut.

Stannis: Perhaps, but that wasn't Ned Starks way.

If not paying attention, it would seem as if he may be just hinting how Ned Stark wouldn't think of him that way or something. I believe wholeheartedly that he was saying "I doubt it. Ned Stark was to honorable to cheat on his wife with a in a brothel." That was either a very straightforward troll blurb, or a subtle hint of Jons true lineage.

Show is all but confirming R+L=J at this point =p

Not that I needed convincing. Fairly blatant in the books imo.

It's funny, at this point I almost DON'T want the story to progress any further. I don't want it to be over, even though you get the general idea where it's headed.

Greyscale is taking a real prominent role now. I wonder if Mormont will be a proverbial patient zero for an outbreak. And WHERE IS ARYA? She's one of the most intriguing storylines, yet it feels as if her story progression is so slow.
