I just heard on the local sports station here that there is a real possiblility that we are going to hire Cower and give him "keys to the kingdom," of course meaning coach and GM. Source also said Cower would become the first 10 million dollar coach.

They cannot -- I expect that is also why you can't guarantee a deal for a future job.

Regardless of the Rooney Rule or not -- they have a situation in Washington that seems a good fit for Mike Singletary -- he's a motivational guy who isn't a strong X and Os person -- if they can keep Williams and Saunders, it is a good situation for him.

As a former MLB on a complicated defense it baffles me that he isn't known as a strong X's and O's guy. I don't think he has a shot in hell.

I would think that sort of "rule" would be completely and totally against the entire spirit of the policy. Policies like this aim to break down the old boy network.

Here's what I think -- there was likely a contingency in the rule when it was put in place because there were one or two guys who had taken their current coordinator positions before Rooney with that sort of understanding. It obviously would be grossly unfair to unring that bell.

However, for future positions I doubt that would hold water or that the league would approve an assistant contract with that sort of guarantee.

I doubt it, but I think it is a well known fact that Gibbs was having dinner in Atlanta with Arthur Blank, discussing the falcons job. Then he got a phone call from snyder saying he wanted him to come back and gibbs took that job instead.

I highly doubt gibbs would do that. He is not parcells, but he did consider that job at one point.
