Just heard it on Mike and Mike.
I think he saw the writing on the wall. He had an overachieving team that probably won't even win it's own division for years to come.

Can you at least let the man speak at his press conference first? I think he has more than earned his respect. This is hardly a Bobby Petrino deal here.

I question the validity of that S & T.

If you have another source I'd be interested.

It is PDF. Page 18 of 43, first item in the notes.

only exception to the Rooney Rule interview requirement is where a team has a pre-existing contractual commitment with a member of its coaching staff to make him head coach and this agreement was on file with the League at the time the contract was entered into.

Is actually a somewhat interesting read, well parts of it.

Too bad the NFL didnt have a strike the past 4 years. It would have been nice to see Gibby go out on top with another "Superbowl".

You are right, we did overachieve. If your team loses SIX of it's starters to season ending injuries (including your best player) and makes it to the playoffs then your's will be considered overachievers too.

And to claim that this same playoff team "probably won't win it's own division for years to come" is a ridiculous statement in today's NFL. The last place team from the NFC South has won it's division the next season like 4 years in a row now, just to cite one example.

Gibbs retiring is actually a bad thing for the boys... They might actually get a competent coach there.
Gibbs is a has been, worst than when Parcells here in Dallas. He came for the big fat paycheck to support his Nascar team, FedEx sponsorship.
Dude had a 31-36 record, Skins are 20 million plus over the cap, they are looking forward to a 37 year old QB next year. They got smurfs at WR, it's a disaster and I for one love it!!!!

My gut Fears it will by Cowher, but my head (and foreskins fans) tell me it's going to be Williams: and that's fine: they'll be the same solid defense, schitzo offense, mediocre outfit year after year IMO.

NFC South :laugh2:

NFC is much tougher division, not a good example.

I was citing ONE example. How about an example closer to home for you? I am sure you were expecting a nice top 5 pick from the Browns this year. Didn't quite work out that way huh.

This just stinks. I think most Skins fans like Snyder, and I do too, but right now I have no faith in him to hire the right guy. It has to be Williams, or if not then Grimm. Getting Cowher and giving him all the power is a terrible idea. GM/coaches never, ever, ever work out.

Well, that example sucked, ok?

What does that have anything to do with your team winning NFC East anytime soon?

Not a damn thing.

WILLIAMS HAS NO GUARANTEE
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 8, 2008, 10:10 a.m.

A league source tells PFT that contrary to popular belief, there is no guarantee in the contract of Commanders assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams that he will either be Joe Gibbs’ successor or receive a bonus payment from owner Dan Snyder.

Multiple media reports have indicated that Williams had been promised either the head-coaching job when Gibbs left, or, at minimum, that Snyder would pay Williams a million-dollar bonus if he were not offered the job upon Gibbs’ departure.

But in reality, there is no such deal in place. Although Williams’ contract pays him a higher salary to run the defense than some NFL head coaches make, Williams won’t necessarily get a big check from Snyder if he isn’t named the Commanders’ next head coach.

I heard Snyder is talking to voodoo priest and a faith healer about the possibility of resurrecting Vince Lombardi or George Allen...

They aren't faring well against Tom Landry anyway... ;)

No way! Not a man of his character! I can't believe it! I guess he was tired of "working his guts out" and decided that it was the "super smart" decision to leave it be. His only regret is that he didn't find another stud SS, and have Snyder make him not only the richest safety ever, but the most expensive "personal punt protector" ever!
