Give him credit: Roy is a beast in the run game..

name 2 strong safeties better than Roy

Mike Brown (when healthy)
Rodney Harrisson
Chris Hope
Mike Huff
Sean Jones
Adrian Wilson.
Jermaine Phillips
Troy Polamalu
Bob Sanders
Darren Sharper

I would take all of these guys and a few other young guys like Landry and Whitner over Roy.

Throwing a lazy shoulder when the runner had someone on him already is hardly a bit hit.

Decent...big for him lately but hardly what he used to be.

Proof positive that all y'all are arguing with a brick wall. Several of them, actually.

even the haters have to admit that Roy has been huge in our run game.. he is our team leader in tackles and I really think he is a big reason why we are so stout against the run.. the man gets loads and loads of crap for his coverage, so man up and give him props for his defense against the run..
yeah he took a real nice angle on that td run by grant:rolleyes: Roy is just another ss in the nfl

I'm impressed that you could name so many safeties, as this is clearly a "Safeties whose names I recognized when I looked down ESPN's stat sheet" list.

If you have heard their names, they must be better than Roy, cuz he sux, am I right, guyz?

Your kidding me right?

Which one of those safeties comes out in passing situations?

If your answer is none (which is the correct answer), then I would rather have them.

Which one's are you argueing exactly? Also, there were quite a few safeties that I left off the list because they were either washed up (like roy) or just plain terrible.

Boy, I would sure love an injury prone SS on our team.

(a) You also named a variety of FREE safeties, when you were asked to name Strong Safeties. There is a difference.

(b) Roy does not come out in "passing situations". He comes out in a specific personnel package we run that calls for only our FREE safety to be on the field, and he is not replaced by another safety.

I've read most of this thread, and although I've seen several gif files of Roy laying people out, nobody has show the gif file from last night where Grant broke through the line on the 3rd and 1, and both roy and hamlin looked like pee wee players trying to make a tackle.

Seems to me in a thread entitled "Give him credit, Roy is a beast in the run game", someone would have shown that gif. (I would have done it, but I have no idea how to create a gif).

Furthermore. We are all cowboys fans, but some of us seem to look at our players through some pretty heavily tinted blue sunglasses.

Anyone who can't see how roy is hurting us in coverage has a severe case of homer-itis. He has regressed for a couple of years now, and while he is still ok against the run, he is far from stellar.

All in all, he is by far our weakest defensive starter. No doubt.

How'd I know Roy would be the one to take the blame on the Grant TD....

Its funny how Grant gashes our front - 7 and RW gets blamed :laugh2:

Hamlin cut Roy on the play anyhow.

So, this is your first RW thread? Or are you seriously expecting people to debunk this nonsense all over again?

My God these children will never quite.

Roy Williams is one of the best strong safeties in the league.

Why is there no middle ground with Williams ? He either sucks or is great , but never in between . What's wrong with being a beast in run support and average in coverage ? Why does he have to be stellar at every facet of the position ? Very few players at any position are . I don't understand the problem with taking him off the field in certain situations and putting in a player that matches up better . Isn't that what a coaching staff is suppose to do ? You guys expect too much from a strong safety .

Roy Williams played a very solid game. I don't think he is having his best season, but he was solid yesterday.

Because there is a long list of other Safeties in the NFL that never make a mistake.

Its funny because a lot of people actually believe this.

I know you are kidding Tek.

I didn't read this thread. All I have to say is that Grant was already past Roy when Hamlin took him out. They both reacted too slow. Once Grant was by, no way Roy catches up to him.

I've been critical of him before, but I'll give him his props .. he's one of the best part time/role players in the NFL.

I think if I was Roy or Ken... I would have expected the Front 7 to at least slow him down a little and not allow him to run FULL SPEED straight through the middle of our defense and go virtually untouched.

That play is on our ILBers as much as it is on Roy and Ken.

Poor angles by both Ken and Roy... but our front 7 got completely blocked.

Great play where everything went perfectly for the Packers. It happens sometimes... ya know their guys get paid too.
