I've been critical of him before, but I'll give him his props .. he's one of the best part time/role players in the NFL.

As I said last week, I'm glad Roy is on our team!, The Haters will never change their minds.

You know what's really pathetic...

This team has the best record in COWBOYS HISTORY and what do we see the day after a HUGE WIN?

Celebration threads that are pages and pages long?

Discussion about our next opponent and how we're going to win that game?

Talking about how much we are enjoying the season and loving being Cowboys fans?

NOPE

We're arguing over Gott Dang ROY WILLIAMS and wind up having 9+ pages of BULLCRAP over 1 player that is actually playing pretty well.

We can thank Hamlin for that. He made a weak attempt at grabbing Grant's ankles and then proceeded to knock Roy out of the play.
RW had no chance in hell to make that tackle.

They both reacted too slow.

They didn't react too slow. It was third-and-1, and they were both crashing toward the line of scrimmage. The problem was that Grant got through a pile-up at the line without even being touched. The safeties see a crowd of people and rush toward it thinking someone has Grant in the middle of that, but instead, he was running full speed right through it.

There's a reason that a lot of short-yardage runs break for long touchdowns.

To me, it just epitomizes the difference between the player we drafted and the player he's become. The player we drafted out of OU had such phenomenal instincts and saw the game so much faster than everyone else you wondered if there weren't four players on the field wearing the #31 jerseys because he seemed to be everywhere at all times.

Now if a player runs 5 yards to the left of him there's "no chance in hell" he can make the tackle, because he doesn't react until the ballcarrier has practically run past him.

He still hits hard .. no doubt, as any large safety running free to the ball should, but when it comes to anticipation and instincts he's nowhere near the same player.

He doesn't make a lot of big game changing plays like a lot of fans, including me, thought he would when we drafted him. So in that one sense he has been something of a disappointment.

I'm as critical of Roy as anyone, but I do think he's been better in run support lately. At least he hasn't been bouncing off as many tight ends lately.

For you that think replacing RW with Watkins ore whoever did you watch the game last night, Aaron "Friggin" Rodgers picked apart the middle of the field manned by Hamlin and Watkins for a good part of the game, I won't even go into the missed tackles when RW was standing on the sideline and the "Special" Nickel package was in.

(a) You also named a variety of FREE safeties, when you were asked to name Strong Safeties. There is a difference.

(b) Roy does not come out in "passing situations". He comes out in a specific personnel package we run that calls for only our FREE safety to be on the field, and he is not replaced by another safety.

This list came from NFL.com.

They categorize DB like the following:

DB
CB
SS
FS

I looked at the SS list.

I'm not sure how else to do it.

If I just did a generic S list, the list would be considerably longer.

Its funny how Grant gashes our front - 7 and RW gets blamed :laugh2:

Hamlin cut Roy on the play anyhow.

yeah, after Grant was past him.

Our front 7 also deserves the blame. But when the last line of defense is our Safeties, they have to at least get a hand on him.

Hamelin was no better on that play. Actually worse.

I think if I was Roy or Ken... I would have expected the Front 7 to at least slow him down a little and not allow him to run FULL SPEED straight through the middle of our defense and go virtually untouched.

That play is on our ILBers as much as it is on Roy and Ken.

Poor angles by both Ken and Roy... but our front 7 got completely blocked.

Great play where everything went perfectly for the Packers. It happens sometimes... ya know their guys get paid too.

It was a well executed play by GB but I expect our safeties to at least get a hand on him.

I think RW deserves 1% blame, if that.

The front 7 takes 95% and Hamlin gets the other 4%.

He had a ok game..One big hit and a couple tackles..WAs in position to stop a couple passes.

He played ok...He's still average, nothing changes that...And the die hard Roy lovers proved it here. He had a Average game and people are acting like he played great lol.

Wake up call please:rolleyes:

And the "haters" can't admit he played well when he plays well.

Blah blah blah.

Same old same old.

Can we stop pretend the world is broken up into people who hate Roy and people who love him?

The vast majority on this board think that Roy's a good player that just doesn't justify his contract and is unreasonably vilified. We react to knee-jerking because it's annoying in any form, and not because we support a particular player. We also think its childish to overreact to the very few problems this 11-1 team has had this year.

I give major Props to Wade for demoting Roy in obvious throwing packages and formations. He can't cover NFL WR's. It's just a fact.

He is good in the box where he can play like a Linebacker, a role he is great at.

Why do you have to bring facts into an argument? Its not polite to those who wish to drive home their agenda.
