Look at it from this perspective:
In Roy's first 2 seasons he was nearly as good a SS as Romo has been a QB in his first 2 seasons.
At least to the point that there was talk of Roy being the best ever at his position by plenty of people who know these things, including Ronnie Lott.
But Roy is simply not the player now that he was then.
And it disappoints everyone who saw his obvious potential.
He could cover WRs, not to mention RBs and TEs, hit everything in sight, and cause receivers to drop balls from just knowing he was around.
So most Roy "bashers" are just people who are disappointed that he has become a player who gets defended with excuses like "well, no other SS can cover so Roy shouldn't be expected to" or "he didn't get beat - it was the scheme" etc.
I'd like to be a Roy fan again but he just isn't the player he was earlier in his career.
I doubt if I, or many others, would be Romo fans if his performance dropped off to the degree Roy's has.
