Granted, but I don't think you can make an accurate prognosis on what a team is until at least week 10, until then it is still too early in the season to say if it is just a good start or if a team is "for real". So taking in last year or not, I'm not ready to say we are a top 5 team yet. Beat Seattle in Seattle and I will say we are. For now, I will say that recent history has me cautiously optimistic, emphasis on cautiously.

It's hypocrisy.

We're supposed to exercise "patience" when things are going poorly, but two weeks of something looking good and "problem solved!"

Yes - but they are still winning which really stinks. They will be better once they get the OL guys back. Man I wish they were 1-4.

Yes. That's what I'm afraid of, once they get the OL fixed, will their offense be like it was last year. Hopefully they have issues all year long like we did a few years ago.
eventually their luck will run out on all those ST's plays. Can't keep winning like that.

New faces doesn't automatically = improvement.

I'll reiterate my stance, the defense has been better than I had expected, but they still have moments where it looks like they aren't even on the field. Look no further than the 4th quarter of our most recent game for evidence of that.

And until they prove they can have more consistency, I'll continue to have my doubts.
I didn't say it was improvement. I said it is a totally new defense, and it is. I give you credit for at least giving top and bottom 5s. Not surprised you left Dallas out of the top 5.

Top 5:

1. Seattle - They deserve this ranking until someone knocks them down....
2. San Diego - Would put them at 1.5 if I could, they handled business with the Seahawks in game 1. And they look good.
3. Denver - They are running with the pack above and are not far behind.
4. San Fran - They find a way to win games, and that's what counts in this league.
5. Dallas - Injuries at LB are the only thing that make me think twice about this. Legit. Hungry. Physical. You best believe it.

Bottom 5:

28. Oakland - Pieces are being put in place, but they need another year.
29. Tennessee - Too many issues to list, starting with QB
30. Minnesota - Surrounded in turmoil
31. New York Jets - They don't have a QB and are a mess
32. Jacksonville - Same old, same old. But Bortles is the future.

Because I don't think they are yet.

I'm as happy as anyone to be 4-1 but that doesn't make me blind to this team's flaws.

They'll get a lot more credit from me and everybody else if they pull of this 'win' plenty of fans around here are predicting.

I'm very curious about this comment and how you came to this conclusion.

From what I see, the cupboard's bare and I see none of the "pieces" you're referencing.

I really like Carr at QB and Mack for their pass rush. They just had Holmgren in for the HC job and that could be a real good move for them. Long ways to go for sure, but it starts with Carr.

You didn't need to defend it. I accepted it as is.

1. Seattle - I have seen nothing to this point to make me believe the Champs aren't still the Champs.

2. Denver - As usual with anything involving Peyton Manning they're damn good.

3. San Diego - Rivers is still a beast that I don't believe gets nearly the credit he's deserved in his career. This team should give Denver a real run for their money.

4. Arizona - They're tough. Real tough.

5. Dallas - Going with my heart here although I think a case can easily be made for New England (They're not quite the dead franchise people tried to proclaim a week ago) or Cincy (I don't think 1 rough outing makes me think they're suddenly not good). With the running game and ball control offense that Dallas is playing you can take that offense, along with some solid defensive play (It doesn't have to be perfect or great just effective) and you can win pretty much anywhere on any weekend with that formula. I'm looking forward to this weekend.

28. Tampa Bay - There just isn't a lot there for Lovie to work with. 1 or 2 years from now watch out. He'll have this team contending. Of that I have zero doubt.

29. Washington- They have no consistent QB play. Their defense is not what they were hoping and has it's injuries hurting it even more. They're just not a good team, at all.

30. New York Jets - Ugh. What a mess. No QB play what so ever. Terrible team.

31. Oakland - They simply don't have any talent on this team, it would appear anyway. I do think their QB Carr can possibly turn out to be something for them but they're going to have to surround him with some legit weapons or they're going to continue to go no where.

32. Jacksonville- Yikes. What a disgusting mess they've got going on with this team. It's just absolutely trash out there.

1. Chargers - statistically a dominating team that dominated Seattle

2. Seattle - I don't think I need to say much here.

3. Denver - I think they are a solid team overall without Peyton, but Peyton makes them a possible 12 win team.

4. Green Bay - They have Aaron Rodgers and are currently #2 in QB Rating allowed.

5. NY Giants - For right now. 3rd in QB rating allowed, offense is starting to gel

They might have something with Carr, I agree, but it's too early to say for sure yet.

But there's waaayy too many questions and too few answers out there if you ask me.

Thanks for the reply.

I haven't asked all year. Too fun not to ask now. Who are your best 5 and worst 5 in the NFL?

1. Seahawks. They are the Champs and beat Denver again. Gotta give them the respect they deserve.

2. Broncos. I still think they are the team to beat in the AFC.

3. Chargers. The team that might be able to is in their Division.

4. Cowboys. That's right, and when we beat number 1, we're going up while they come down.

5. Cardinals. They are for real. Pains me to say it.

28. Buccaneers. Lovie inherited junk. Don't think they will stay here next year, but this year pew.

29. Commanders. 7 of the last 9 years they have been the worst team in the NFC East. Make it 8 of 10 this year.

30. Jets. Vick can't save them. Geno can't save them. A lifeguard can't save them.

31. Jaguars. I think they will be better with Bortles, still not good.

32. Raiders. I don't think Dennis Allen was the problem.

I agree with your placement, except #5. I think I like the Colts there.

As for the Raiders, Dennis Allen is not the problem whatsoever. And as good a defensive mind as Rex Ryan is in New York, it's time for him to move on to coach elsewhere. The Jets front office is a disaster.

No sweat man. I know you're not the typical pessimist that exists around these parts. Never have been.

More pessimistic than many I suppose, but I try to keep things as 'even' as I can.

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving this 4-1 record and the improvements I'm seeing, I just still have my doubts sometimes about the defense when they have those moments like they had in the 4th quarter on Sunday.

A few minutes almost erases a great day's work.

I just need to see more consistency and improvement from that side of the ball.

A few moments can happen for any team in the league, though.

With this offense, and with the defense having 99% more positive moments than negative ones, I think I'll lean more with Hostile on this one.

I predict we will shut someone out this year at some point. Just a feeling I've got. Likely doesn't happen until we get a couple of key pieces back.

I'd love to see that.

And it would go a huge way in restoring my faith in this defense as a competent unit.

And if you're taking requests, I'll take that shutout this week please!

I am not in the convo but I will lean with Stash. I know you can only beat who is in front of you but who have we beat? Our best looking win has been the Saints and I will be the first to tell you I was bouncing off the walls excited the night of. But then I see what the Bucs did and first thought was that takes away from our impressive win of the season. This weekend will go a long way to turning some of the pessimistic minds around. Even in a close hard fought loss I will be impressed, as long as we dont go out there looking like the typical 4-1 Boys of the past.
