TRADED Glazer: Cowboys trade for DT Quinnen Williams

Its a great move when its a 27 1st and a 26 2nd.
We lost draft capital that could have been used to rebuild this defense long term. That's what is needed. Giving up multiple picks for one player isn't a great move when your defense isn't one player away from competing. This is a historically bad defense that needs to be completely overhauled.

This is essentially the same we got for Parsons from GB.

Two very low firsts for Parsons. Now that one first rounder and a high 2nd rounder.

You think trading Parsons for him is a good deal ? Give or take a 5th rounder that makes up for that 2nd and not low first.

I dont think that is a good deal.

To clarify: I dont argue against the player. Great player and great pickup. Exactly what we needed. Just the cost of it. And in comparison what we got for Parsons.

It’s a good deal when you factor in the cap savings. We were able to sign Tyler Smith and Bland and we still have cap room to work with.

Got nothing back in return for throwing away the first round pick of mazi
Mazi was a bust for us, maybe he improves with the Jets, but he played 14% of snaps this season. I don't know what the Cowboys would have gotten with Mazi alone.

I’m so glad mazi is gone. I don’t have to listen to Stephen pumping how great he ca be, anymore

Not sure how anyone could dislike this trade for Dallas.
You gave up all of 2nd rounder this year to shore up a position you have failed to fix for at least 5 seasons.
Instead of a 2nd round rookie DT you are plugging in an All-Pro DT.
You also move 2.5M in dead money off in regularly inactive Mazi Smith.

Seriously, are you guys ok???

Jerry is still an idiot but the Parsons, Pickens and QW trades have been superb.

We got to low first rounders and a DT for Parsons.

Now you give up one of those first rounders and a very possible high 2nd rounder and a DT for Williams.

Thats essentially Parsons for Williams.

Still think this is a good trade ?

Nothing prbly. But it shows what a wasted pick it was. Him and taco. Worst picks ever. No more wolverines unless their real name is Hugh jackman

What we get for mazi? That is why. He was a first round pick. To get nothing in return back is horrible
It doesn’t matter where he was picked. We are scrubbing salary for a monumental bust from our cap load. That’s what we got in exchange. It’s hard to trade anything for the value/capital initially spent on an asset when said asset has little to no value after acquiring it. Scrubbing out cap space is what we got for trading Mazi. It is what it is. That’s certainly no reason to grade this trade an F. There has to be more to their thinking.

Yep, people will whine no matter what they do.
Because they are worthy of criticism.

This move does little to affect the 2025 season. They are already in too big a hole to make the playoffs. Their odds were at 7%.

If anything, this just highlights the sheer stupidity of Jerry. Anyone with a brain knew they had a DT problem and yet Jerry sat on his hands all offeason until the end when he traded his HOF pass rusher for a DT and then AFTER we basically blow the season, he trades away two premium picks for a DT.

It just is more proof that they have zero idea what they are doing at this point.

DTs usually age well. If you want to name the best DTs in the league this season - Sexy Dexy, Vea, Derrick Brown, Leonard Williams, Jeffrey Simmons, Cam Heyward, etc - most are in their late 20s or 30s.
Hopefully. This season is done. So really need three years of high level play from Williams.

Next year will again be a rebuilding year so it's the 2027 season when the team could be a contender again.

I just really hope the plan is to draft a quarterback with the likely top 10 pick in 2026 with the intention to sit him behind Dak and takeover in 2027 with Dak either being traded or a post June 2027 cut.

I fear the front office will bank on keeping Dak Prescott around for what will seem like the next 50 years! In which case all these moves are irrelevant as he isn't good enough to get it done when it matters against a good defense/team.

The problem is this is too late to affect this season.

They aren't making the playoffs because they still have holes and their DC blows.

But it's a decent enough start for the 2026 season.
It will affect our drafting position. Thats (besides other reasons) makes this trade not good nor well thougth thru.

And that has nothing to do with the player. He is a great one.

I think its fair because you can't get DT of that caliber for a 1st and 2nd. Those guys just don't get traded.

No. That’s not a good trade.

What would have been a good trade is acquiring Williams after signing Micah.

But Jerry doesn’t make all-in moves like that. The only reason he made this move was because he looked like a moron for trading the foundation stone for our defense and then watching the mess his roster management had created. That’s the only reason he made this trade — to try and save face and he will strut around like a peacock for the cameras. This is a classic “stirring it up” move by Jerry.

You can look at it that way. But then it makes the Parsons deal look so much worse.

QW is a long term piece. And already a top 5 dt at that.

They needed another DT long term anyway. Why not pick up a proven all-pro in Williams instead of gambling this team doesn't draft another Mazi Smith?

46M in cap 2026-27

Either Clark or OSA have to go. My bet is Clark.
I don't believe either have to or will go, they are going all in 26 and 27, plenty of things you can due contractually to make the 3 DT salaries easily fit and sign Pickens. Then you have the Jerry factor and no way he releases OSA (after just signing) or Clark after just trading for him.
