Greg Hardy unlikely to face any ban

In light of Adrian Peterson's ruling that NFL's domestic violence policy cannot be applied retroactively, Hardy will not be facing a ban this upcoming season. He will likely get immediately reinstated. If Jerry can deal with bad PR, and contract has a strong morality clause so Cowboys can get out of deal if he re-offends, I'd be in favor of signing him to play LDE.

I'm confused and out of the loop. Was he found not guilty? Her story sounds extreme. We need a copy of the police report. Why isn't Schefter on this?

In that state the initial bench (by judge) trial effectively serves as the filter similar (not same) as a Grand Jury. It is more difficult to assemble a jury trial and they use the bench trial as a filter. Many jurisdictions use a Grand Jury as a filter. In both (judge or Grand Jury) the conviction//indictment rate is much higher than in the trial by jury.

The initial bench trial is so informal that they don't even use a court reporter. Hardy's lawyers hired their own court reporter so they could prevent the witnesses from recanting on their original testimony.

Hardy might be a bad guy but there is no proof of it in this incident.

Those transcripts were a big part of the reason the DA dropped the case. There were inconsistencies with her testimony at the bench trial and her original statements and the Defense knew they were going to expose her on cross. The DA wanted copies and the Defense was finally forced to hand them over. When the State saw the transcripts they no longer felt comfortable putting her statements in the record, with or without her physically being there. They had no choice but to drop the charges.

It's scary how many people want to judge people as guilty with minimal or no evidence.

That Lynch mob or Witch Burning mentality.

And you see it more and more every day. It's disturbing, how willing people are to engage in this behavior.

Hardy was found guilty of a misdemeanor (after being accused of attempted murder) with little punishment in the North Carolina equivalent of Traffic Court. He immediately appealed and the DA dropped the case because girl making the accusation wouldn't return calls about the differences between the police report and what she testified at the hearing. Hardy also paid her off to make sure she wouldn't bring a civil lawsuit against him, which could have cost him a lot of money to fight regardless of whether he was innocent or not. The girl also testified she was on coke that night and Hardy's attorneys said they had evidence that would prove his innocence no matter what.

Any time a huge guy is accused of abusing a tiny woman that's the case. Glad I'm a little guy that wouldn't even think of smacking a woman around.
He's a big intimidating guy.

Dismissing a bench trial (where the standard is determining guilt beyond reasonable doubt) by comparing it to a grand jury (where the standard is probable cause) is kind of ridiculous.

Wow. Do you have a source?

Not really what he's saying. He's saying that in NC, they use the bench as a kind of vetting system, in order to move the cases along. At least I think that's what he's trying to say.

I said it's not exactly the same but serves a similar purpose.

If the bench trial was equivalent to trials in other jurisdictions it would be a jury trial because Americans have the right to trial by jury.

Agree.

People also want to find Dez guilty in this no-video ordeal despite Zero evidence.

Exactly, people are just trying to come up with a comparison since NC's system is very unique.

Not according to the State of NC. Even if you count the bench trial, which was a misdemeanor, he was only sentenced to probation.

IMO the woman in the case was not a reliable witness. She claimed he flung her all over the apartment but had no visible injuries. Her story changed over time and during the trial and she eventually went away. She was either paid off, which may have been her motive the entire time or knew she was lying and didn't want to go through another trial and a much more thorough cross.

I would have no problem signing Hardy
We are a better team with Hardy then not. I am very amused by those who uses the bench trial as the reason why they don't want Hardy but completely ignores the dismissed case? How obstinate you have to be to live in that world.

Nobody really knows what happened. There are many holes in the the girl's story.

There have been many similar incidents with other players in the past and many of them were proven to be false allegations. For instance, I think the Ray McDonald allegations were proven false by video evidence.
Our very own Erik Williams had to deal with false allegations.

Based upon the Peterson ruling, Hardy will be applying for immediate reinstatement.

If you google the articles all of that (and more) is out there. I got interested in this because the charges were so serious and ended up reading a bunch of the articles on it. If you have the time and read what is already out there, I think you will reach the same conclusions.

And Hardy fills the true biggest need. Our defensive tackles weren't world beaters, but they did their jobs just fine, especially in comparison to defensive ends who could never get there.

Hardy is the one proven producer who will hit the free agent market, and if you want the best, be prepared to pay.

I would be.

Hardy would be a fantastic mentor to Lawrence as well.

I understand that most people don't have the time or the interest to really look into a lot of the cases. I am guilty of it myself. But if I am going to debate it with someone I am going to make sure I have done some research. I also tried to read up on Hardy's case and I came to the same conclusions. She just doesn't seem to be credible and he deserves the benefit of the doubt after all charges were dropped.

I would love to have someone of hardys talents to add much needed superstar pass rush talent to our DLine.

But it's tough to look at the guy knowing he lacks any kind morals of what a real man is
