Gunman kills 12, injures 59 during screening of Batman movie in Aurora, CO

Watching the news.

And one of the breaking news alerts was that the suspect was "listening to loud techno music"

Seriously?

Instead of just saying this dude is just disturbed, we instead have to blame movies and music.

Are you sure that is what the context was? I heard he rigged his apt. to play very loud music at 12am(he was at the theater) to disturb the neighbors, then as the police would arrive they would eventually get in and set off his booby traps.

The media and everyone will find their ways to rationalize why this happened. They will blame music, video games, TV, etc, etc. But, fact of the matter is, these sickos are born with the crazy gene. A normal person does not wake up one day and plan something like this. Sure, some outside elements might trigger something, but they do not cause it IMO.

Good question. What's interesting is that Europe has also seen a high number of large-scale shootings in recent years.

It's the increased attention/exposure they get, imo. I wish this guy had given officers an excuse to end this situation, but unfortunately now his idiotic thoughts are going to be broadcast all over the world, at least for a short time period. I think some folks really get off on that brief but intense attention...more than they get off on the idea of living out the rest of their life normally.

Not likely to happen again...atleast in the same venue...you never know when someone is going to flipout like this, it can happen anywhere...you can't let incidents like this control your life...life has to go on girl

I know better! I do..argh. Great advice.

On a related point, why does Brian Ross at ABC News still have a job? I won't get into his actions here, but anyone should be able to google him easily.

2 people can have the same name and not be the same??? (head explodes).

I read that a 3 month old got injured the the shooting. What kind of ****ty parent brings their 3 month old to a midnight showing of Batman?

Parents do this all the time. It is crappy, well for other moviegoers.

It's inconsiderate only if the baby cries (or poops his draws) and the parents do nothing about it.

That could very well be what it was.

But this was a cut in graphic with just those words.

This is the type of tragedy you never really expect to happen in this country. Eye opening situation. You just never know.
why would you not expect this to happen in this country?

Exactly - it essentially already happpened right down the road (Columbine) a few years ago. There have been multiple other school shootings etc. since.

It's not fun to admit, this shooting is not as inordinary as it might have been 20 years ago.

It's realistic. Sorry I don't see random gun-toting yahoos to be the immaculate incarnation of John Wayne, Josey Wales and James Bond here.

Blasphemous. Some here would've dropped him with one well placed shot despite the fact he was wearing full body bullet proof gear. RamboZone is in full effect.

I'm not big on our process of capital punishment, but none of those issues will be in play here. I expect he will go down, and I have to agree with that.

His lawyers' only hope will be some sort of mental illness defense, but the planning behind this horrible crime will pretty much negate that in any reasonable juror's mind.

Physicians will examine him for competency and that will determine his ability to stand trial.
