Has any great QB had a crueler run than Tony Romo?

It depends on what you mean by better. Is he more accurate and better at reading defenses? Yes. Is he better at running an offense, protecting the ball, and winning games? No. which is more important?

Any proof for that statement? He already has as many fumbles as Romo did in 2014 for the whole year.

Until you see Romo with the Zeke effect you cannot make that statement. For all you know we could be 9-0 with Romo.

Exactly, no proof. I am glad you are amused though! I like Dak but he has done nothing that Romo has not done repetitively throughout his career.

I'm not eternally old, so I know little about another teams players from the 1900's

Was an incredible QB that had no offensive talent around him and had perhaps the most overrated defense in football history. Tough to win a Super Bowl when on the other end is the Madden Raiders, 70's Steelers and Shula's Dolphins.

Ya really gotta love people who think Tony handing off to Zeke 20x a game would be leading the NFL in turnovers or something. What a stupid argument.

Go back and look at how many turnovers Romo had in all of 2014 handing the ball off to DeMarco Murray 20x a game.

34 TD's, 9 int's and 3 fumbles lost in 16 games.

Can we stop this stupidity already?

The Dallas Cowboys superstar stood in front of a group of expectant reporters, battled back his deep disappointment and got choked up.

“That’s my quarterback,” warbled Terrell Owens.

It was 2008, so long ago that there was hardly a Twitter audience around to make a meme out of it. Owens’ quarterback was Tony Romo, who was being blamed for a playoff loss to the New York Giants only a year after he was blamed for another playoff loss, in Seattle, when he fumbled a field-goal snap.

Owens did his best to stand up for the 27-year-old passer. Romo did his best to shrug it off. “I don’t live with regrets,” he said at the time.

That statement is up against the ultimate test now, as he’s the backup to rookie Dak Prescott after a back injury suffered in the preseason has kept him out all season. Romo waited years to be in a position to lead Dallas on the field after going undrafted in 2003 – he was a holder for two seasons – and then he waited even longer after the botched hold in Seattle for a greater chance to get the Cowboys back to the Super Bowl. Now, finally, his team is good enough at 8-1 and he’s watching from the sideline. It’s as if he trained a thoroughbred from birth, wrangled him into the starting gate at Churchill Downs, and then choked on dust as the horse took off with another rider.

No, not even close. And I'm sorry, but the team is screwing him over one last time, not even allowing him to compete for the starting job. What happened to all the noise about "competition at every position?" All this group think that has come down the line, "We can't mess with a good thing" is just moronic. What's the problem? If Romo can beat Prescott out, why isn't he starting?

Dallas is a winners market.

They would have built statues for Romo in places like Detroit where he would have been their greatest . But not here. Not without a championship. Very tough fans.

Rodger and Troy spoiled us..

what is there to compete with? now that he's healthy should there be an "open competition" for what, a week? what would we measure by in practice that would beat what we've seen from dak on the field?

footballs through a tire?
flying drones over the practice field and see who can knock it out first?
windsprints?

what could he do between now and sunday to "compete" for the job and since we're on a winning streak, why would we mess with that for 1 person, regardless of how much they mean to us all?

so - your idea, buckwheat. how would they "compete" at this stage of the game fairly and w/o disrupting the team?

Um, split starting reps. Best guy wins. What, you don't think they can tell who is playing at a higher level during practice sessions? Then why did everyone know Romo was the best QB on the team when Bledsoe was taking all first-team reps?

Why the F are we coddling Prescott, thinking he couldn't handle a little competition? It is utterly ridiculous that you have a HOF-level QB on your team...and you won't even let him compete.

to be 100% clear - i *HATE* this for tony. he's earned the right to be playing and hell, no one could see this coming. i think we all hoped for .500 football at best while he was out and to kick it in gear on his return.

dak has just stepped in and done what i've never seen done in my entire career of watching this sport. i can't think of *any* rookie who has come in to do what he has done. that has to mean something too.

it's a crap situation for romo to be sure. i can see the point of the team "taking a dump on him" to a degree. but when the goal is winning a ring and we're on the roll we are on, it's time to look ahead in as much as cover our past.

i respect the hell out of tony and he will in the end go down as one of my favorite cowboys. but this is what i feel needs to happen.

Peyton Manning had a tough time....most of his teams have had a crappy defense and a mediocre OL. Only one Super Bowl in Indy despite being so close so many times. Cut by the Colts. Significant neck injury that required experimental surgery. Loses job last year due to injury. It ended well with the Super Bowl win, but that doesn't dispute the fact that he went though a lot.

Could argue McNabb....so many years so close but no cigar. Finally makes it there and chokes, puking on the field. Gets cut and basically fades into oblivion with awful stops along the way.

It's absolutely ridiculous that Romo has been, in many ways, a national punching bag. It's absolutely ridiculous that a guy like Rivers is, in many national circles, considered to have the better career.

Romo took Cowboys Football out of one of its darkest of ages. No, he didn't (hasn't) win the big game, but this wasn't an organization built to have that kind of success for most of his career. He was the epitome of making chicken salad out of chicken poop.
