Romo > Dak (times infinity) ,,,, but in both cases the Jones' have left their QBs high and dry without quality defenses,,, and in Romo's case no quality OL until the very end.
No.

Dak had more Pro Bowlers blocking for him in his first five seasons as a starter than any other QB during that same time period.

He had Flozel Adams, Leonard Davis, Andre Gurode who earned a combined 13 pro Bowls. He also had Marc Columbo.

The only reason Parcells was willing to start him was because he was confident the line could protect him.

Romo didn't throw a regular season pass until his fourth season in the NFL.

Is Dak as good as Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, Rodgers, or Burrow? NO. But he is somewhere in the next group of 5 or 6. Does Dak make huge mistakes that cost us games and have lead to failures in making it deep into the playoffs? Absolutely, but again he’s not Patrick, Josh, or Joe, and I don’t there’s nobody better we can get right now.

Be real and honest, and stop showing people like me who will dig into the consistency of your arguments that you really don’t know what you’re talking about!

What's the actual point in this thread? Regardless of your personal view (from either side of the fence), neither is/was a QB that's going to win it all. Dak's window closed with his Rookie contract. He's that Cousins/Carr type of QB, very good but is going to come up short as many times as he succeeds (as proved in GWD in Wks 14 and 15).

Blame or deflect what you/we want it's not going to change that to get to the SB we'll need Dak to be both consistent whilst also taking risks....he's just not that player. We were fooled into thinking our Defense could afford us having a chain moving QB....recent weeks indicates that not the case.

A nice historical perspective. To Dak's advantage we were hindered somewhat in the 'Dead Money' paid to Romo during the early years. However, I suppose this is the rookie vrs Franchise QB debate...you're judged by different criteria when you take the CAP that could be spent around the roster. .

I was perhaps quite likely Romo's first fan, and very ardent to the point people disliked me, thought me a troll. It's not about me, it's about how good Romo really was. Great player. Very underappreciated.

That said, I can say the same thing about Dak Prescott.

So it's not a fool's dichotomy for me.

Never has been.

Some fans love holding grudges over pettiness. But to me, that just says more about themselves than it does about Dak Prescott or Romo. I know what he is. Guy is a winner if you let him be.

Let's be real.

We also have hypocritical Romo haters, who have the same sort of crazy-talking, completely irrational viewpoints. But, oh, do we love them so...

In the here and now, as in, not living in the past right now . . . I kind of think this team needed that loss. And we have the potential to turn that game into the chip on our shoulders our pal @RonnieT24 was talking about earlier last week. So, hey, Jags game is in the past.

Only the future lie ahead. History says it's not uncommon for, say, a 12-5, 13-4 team to get hot and win a Super Bowl.

We can't really call it one way or the other, based on the history of the NFL. Remember, the Patriots were once undefeated, and no ring that year.

And I'd say, yeah, Dak is better than Burrow when history plays out. But let's put this pettiness aside, and focus on what's important right now. History is in the past.

There, I took the troll bait and tried to add some valuable input.

Adios.

I know it wasn't me because i was as big of a romo defender as I am Dak supporter.

So with their joint 3 play-off wins in 15 years, you're an advocate of mediocracy. Your view point is EXACTLY what most fans despise about Jerry's ownership, judging on loyalty, not performance.

I think that Joey B is already better then Dak. Time will tell, but Joey was in the Super Bowl in his second year in the league with a pure crap offensive line and an average defense. They were expected to be killed by KC twice last year and won both games. Beat them this year also. Yes, both he and Dak are mentally tough, but Joe is by far the more accurate of the two. I mean good god he got the Bengals to the Super Bowl and that have been the laughing stock of the league for 20 plus years. Our O line is light years better then there's even this year. They also have better coaching, but it starts with Joe and his superior skill set as compared to Dak.

They had a lot of breaks fall their way. I don't see them having the same luck this year. And I'm going to disagree on Burrow. Only time will tell. But I think Dak's career trumples Burrow's when it's all said and done.

Team set up both quarterbacks for failure however Romo > Dak by miles. Not even comparable. Most would agree if Romo played for an actual "football" organization he probably wins one if not sees another superbowl

Romo was the quarterback you build a team around
Dak is the quarterback you load up talent and hope drives the bus straight

Next quarterback up after Dak same **** probably.

Nothing will change until Jerry or Stephen step back and hire a proper GM or sell the team

You're just wrong.

Romo may or may not be a tad bit better than Dak. I'd say it's pretty even so far, actually.

Dak is indeed a bus driver. But I wish people would realize, that's not a bad thing! You dummies...

Statistically, though, if we're being honest, Dak is right there with Romo, and better on some levels. Our fans are just such spoiled brats and don't understand how lucky we've been with both guys. Because the Cowboys have taken a really odd route, and ended up with some pretty Super Steals at the QB position, for both Romo and Dak.

Both top 10, top 5 players, any given year. Take a look at right now, too.

Dak Prescott vs. Jalen Hurts Stats | FantasyPros

Stats don't lie. We rely on our running game more. But we're on par with the Eagles, and we're capable of beating them, especially if Dak is playing.

This team has to tune out the outside noise, rise above whatever distractions that have taken place over the past couple/few weeks, and focus right now.. Every day, every moment, you're knowing your purpose and being your best you. Cliche.. But they have to tap in to that. If they do it, they can win it all.. If not, they can go one and done.

It's up to them.

Nah just using common sense.

Have posted numerous times in the past that we lucked out on both quarterbacks and BOTH would be capable of delivering in the right franchise and situations. The owners / front office is the problem

This doesn't take away from the fact that Romo was much more talented quarterback.

Statics mean nothing when talking different era quarterbacks or simply taken at face value. Dak will eventually surpass Romo, Aikman, Staubach in all stats especially in today's "soft" league. Hes nowhere near their talent level. As they say statistics is for losers or fantasy football guys. Hell statically speaking Cousins is an elite quarterback year in and year out.

There have been numerous elite quarterbacks who never won the big picture or put up ridiculous stats.

Romo was a slightly better QB than Dak, Romo had his issues where he was just too much of a gun slinger, but at least he was somewhat consistent in that. Romo also had much worse teams in average and if it weren't for some really weird and unlucky things he probably would have gotten at least close to a Superbowl for example, Seattle kick muff, Patrick Crayton drop, Dez CAUGHT IT, etc dude had a really unlucky career.

Dak on the other hand is just not that good and has had pretty great teams every year he has played. Almost every year he has had a great run into game and good OL with decent receivers. The only years where Tony has better receivers would be when TO was in Dallas and early Dez years, but I do think Tony had a lot to do with how good Dez was. I can guarantee you that if Dez was a rookie starting with Dak he wouldn't have had nearly as good of a career with Dak as he did with Tony.

Dak will never get close to peak Romo - 2013-14. He just doesn't have it in him and considering Tony started in 2006 they are at the same point in their careers in a very similar situation - good youngish receiver, good running game (Tony's was worse), good OL (Tony's was better), and good defense (advantage Dak). Therefore I think we can definitely compare Romo circa 2013-14 vs Dak 2022-23 and finally come to a conclusion and so far for me I would much rather have Romo given how he was playing in that stage of his career.

Romo was benched by the he Team Captains....only team leader that wanted Romo back was Jason Witten.

Dakota Prescott was present and better at spotting lifts in the gym for teamworkouts:laugh:

I don’t want to be benched for breaking the great CZ rule of “bumping”, so I will generalize instead.

I spent some time going through very old threads and discussions from the 2015-2016 seasons last night. I know a couple of you are man enough to admit it, but most of you sadly are not. I have direct quotes from some of you who were bashing Romo for the same things Dak is doing, but you will bend over backwards to defend him. At the same time some of y’all who would never admit Tony had serious issues will Kill Dak for the same exact mistakes!!!

Y’all are so hypocritical it’s laughable. You know who you are and it’s taking will power for me not to expose you. Grow the Hell Up!!!! You will never be a rational fan if you can’t be balanced in your judgements.

Most of the people at the extremes post emotionally, and as such, probably don't even remember what they posted or why.

All I will add to this debate is that I think Dak is more or less a carbon copy of Romo. Romo couldn't hang with the better teams, same as Dak. Dak has thrown some dumb interceptions, just like Romo used to do. Dak audibles out of a lot of plays, same as Romo. The only place where I would have elevated Dak above Romo is his ability as a runner, but that is now gone since his injury.

To me the Dak vs. Romo debate is useless. Dak is who he is.

I was fine with Dak finishing 2016.... the team was rolling and I thought bringing Romo back would have upset the momentum. Romo was an injury away from being paralyzed and it was the right decision to leave him on the bench.

This...is BS...and exactly what the OP is talking about.

Tony Romo went toe to toe with Peyton Manning in Denver. And epic battle......where Tony had to keep going out again and again...because...get this.....defenses couldn't stop him.

When did you ever see Dak do that? He's mounted single comebacks...against very average, or worse...teams. But not time after time like Romo often had to do. And it's only a matter of time before the odds turn against you. But Romo haters only want to focus on the last one.

Romo has one of the best 4th qtr and comeback wins of his day...among very good QB's. SO this narrative "romo choked" or "romo couldn't hang"...

are lies.

I ain;t hating on Dak. He makes mistakes, as happens. But...geeze we have to keep honest conversations...if we dare.

Room was much better than Dak he took trash receivers and got them paid elsewhere and a year or two after they left they were out of the league. Dak takes good receivers and doesn’t help elevate their game

Your will power saved the thread. Call out threads and posts are not permitted on CowboysZone.

That said, the thread should not be stirring up anyone. A handful of members have occasionally posted the same observation every year since the transition of both quarterbacks. I certainly have.
