I agree, your post is wack. Parsons doesn't need to know me for me to have an opinion about him. It's not weak because you say so, who are you? Nobody! :muttley:

I think them getting Quinn affected the board. Everyone talks about the Legion of Boom but the key to that defense was Bobby Wagner and KJ Wright was icing.

When we played them there, Wagner was out and that affected our game plan calling to rely on the run game. No teams tried to run the ball on them when Wagner was in. He had a good DL in front of him but he was the best MLB in the game back then.

Quinn must stop the run and what player was there in this draft better to do that than a record setting tackler from Penn St.? Horn or Surtain going to stop the run? Tackling is not their strength but it is Parsons' strength and ask any DC the value of a tackling machine MLB. Ask Urlacher's, Kuechly's, Lewis' or Singletary's DC's. I am not saying he is a HOFer, but he was the best answer to the question "how do they stop the run" in this draft. There also was no DL as highly rated.

They could’ve drafted both Surtain and Horn and the D would still get gouged in the run game. Better yet, they should’ve went Oline??? lol They go with probably the best LB prospect in years who should have an immediate impact for this teams most glaring issue and some still aren’t happy! Let’s hope Parsons is anywhere near those LBs you mentioned! I think they got a quality defender and a nice trade back situation. That’s a very very rare A++ for the front office.

I agree. I thought we did well trading back and selecting Parsons. Well done for this front office.

But that’s not the intent of this thread which I’d argue if Surtain or Horn are sitting there at our pick we select one of them not Parsons. And don’t trade down. Which arguably might not been as good a selection.

if they go corner, they still suck against the run. A LB of this caliber was needed. I was all for Surtain or Horn but with time to think on this since the draft I think Parsons was the best route and gets them much closer to fixing this teams biggest issue. Horrible run defense. If you can’t stop that.. you’re done. Offenses control the tempo, the clock and the game more often than not. Just don’t see a corner in the 1st helping in that regard. I think these coaches were well aware of that when they got the best run stopping LB in the draft and probably the highest rated in the past few drafts.

Well it’s easy after the fact to sit here and say that. But there’s few who were going to pass on either Horn or Surtain at our original slot for Parsons. Including our front office and beat writers following us.

How's that when the front office already said Parsons was their guy all along?

Show me a link they said that before the draft. Or any of our beat writers were picking Parsons in that slot based on their insider info from Frisco.

Was he on our board of course. But I’m certainly not buying what our front office says after the fact regardless how well of a pick it was. Everything coming out of Frisco and local press was either CB.

I remember Slater and at least one other reporting Parsons right before the Draft.
Just check the draft threads right before it happened.
There was even a thread on Slater's report in this Zone and peeps saying she was cray.

They said it after the draft. They're not giving it away before the draft.. that would be ridiculous. How many teams talk about how bad they want a player before the draft. They said they had Parsons higher on their beard than both corners. No need to lie after the draft is over.

And a few beat writers were straight up saying Parsons was the guy right before the Draft.
Like I stated before Slater was one of them.

I’ll never believe they intended to take Parsons before Surtain or Horn.

But I will commend them for their trade after the fact and their move to get Parsons. It actually turned out well. It just wasn’t their initial plan or they would have stayed put and selected him.

"Insanely athletic linebacker who plays explosive football. Fast moving in every direction, very sudden, and creates turnovers. Covers a lot of area, possesses a tremendous closing burst, and has a violent nature to his game. Easily changes direction and alters his angle of attack without losing momentum.

Forceful up the field and displays outstanding speed in pursuit. Gets depth on pass drops and shuts off the corners from ball handlers. Easily stays downfield with tight ends and running backs in coverage. Very competitive."

Not sure why LB as they're top target is hard to believe on a defense that couldn't stop the run with a MLB who can't shed blocks and another who can't stay on the field. This guy will be a beast and the best LB on this team!

Again, I think it’s a great pick and it worked out well for us. I just don’t believe it was our 1st choice.

It matters not at all what beat writers thought. They’re just guessing like the rest of us.

The one guy who is an NFL insider and is known for breaking NFL news (Ian Rappoport) said that he knew for a couple of days before the draft that Parsons was the top choice. There is a link earlier in this thread with a video of him saying this.

And he said he didn’t break that news because it would be putting a teams draft plans out there before the draft… not a good way to remain an insider, I’d think.

That is also why the team didn’t tell anyone that their target was Parsons. That would just be silly.

And the team never said they were shooting for the corners either, for that matter. That was just the consensus of all the fans and media on who they thought Dallas was going to target based on interviews, campus visits, etc.

Interesting debate.

I think Parsons and Surtain/Horn were 1a/1b. And I would guess some in the draft room had the lb as 1a and some with the corners as 1a.

The draft certainly decided which guy was their best remaining available.
