I do think Parsons was the guy all along

My opinions are generally based on facts. The best player in the draft doesn't fall to 12.
If Pitts was on the board at 10 he would've been the pick with no trade down.
I felt the same way at the time but since then I've considered they might have known the NYG intentions to take CHI's deal.

I do think there are things that go on behind the scenes and on the phones that we are never privy to during the draft and even leading up to it.

At first, I thought it was nothing more than the usual spin from the front office trying to make themselves look good but the more I see this unfolding, I think that's a fact.

How does a CB help a defense that struggles against the run? Quinn was hired to fix that first and when the Legion of Boom was assembled, SEA already had a solid run defense.

Look at how Quinn devotes his time, he's all about the front 7 because that's where the leaks are.

There wasn't a DL ranked in the top 15 that could help with stopping the run, which is unusual for any draft, so what's the next best thing? A tackling machine MLB. A fast tackling machine MLB.

I don't think the Cowboys get him at 12 if he plays in 2020. His last college game was the Cotton Bowl where he was MVP with 14 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles and he is the first player in Penn State history to lead the team in tackles as a freshman and he only started 1 game. Let that sink in.

If you were apprehensive about this pick, you might want to revisit his last full season at the most famous college for LB's in history. That season was so special with just about every individual honor a player could get that he could afford to opt out in 2020 and still be regarded as a top 10 pick. I think if he plays in 2020, he's the first non QB off the board.

Every great Dallas D had that guy, that MLB that led the team in tackles, made drive stopping plays and lifted the D around him and I am not saying Micah Parsons is that guy but this team has to have that guy so taking him makes perfect sense to me. Because until we do find that guy, we do not field a true contender defense to play in January.

you make a good point

There was also the story that CAR was on Horn and DEN had already been talked about as a Surtain landing spot.

And why did Booger pull that "any player that opted out isn't going to get as much love"? I think he even pulled that gushing over Pitts in the interview as part of his game.

I admit it, when they traded out to PHL, my first thought was it wasn't Parsons or why would they take the chance on losing out on him. I think they knew CHI was coming up for Fields.
Only way the FO would have known that is if they got a call from the Bears.

They wanted one of the corners then traded down once they weren't there end of story.

i like Kelvin Joseph but now i am really liking the one no one heard of taken last of our 3rd rounders...i think our backfield will be better than expected

Beaker42---- they know what team needs and info and leaks get out...no way we trade down if New York desperately needed a linebacker

I said the same thing to multiple people. If he played how he played in 19 he would have solidified his top 5 status. We’re fortunate to get him at 12.

Money equals info and info equals money and its always about the money....so much goes on behind the scenes....you dont trade down if New York desperately needs and wants a linebacker

Parsons was definitely on our board in 1st round and we were more than glad to get him with the pick after trading down but to say he was our initial target or top choice goes against everything coming out of the Star and those who follow the Cowboys closely.

And a high floor. At the very least, Parsons will be a pretty good LB.

Booger got criticized for not taking the Bears trade, when we really don't know if that was even offered but evidently the Bears were making calls aplenty once Fields fell.

Remember, CHI has a GM and HC on the hot seat.

There is only one cat with the Cowboys to follow closely and he feeds what he wants to them.

I think one clue was that comment about players that opted out not getting as much love. Why even broach that subject?

I think we saw the influence of Quinn and probably Edwards on the Joneses thinking about how to fix the defense.

If you gave Quinn his choice of any player on that SEA D to start a D with, I think that would be hands down Bobby Wagner. Same at ATL with Deion Jones. A MLB that can play sideline to sideline is a gift form the football gods. And Quinn knew why he was hired and Nolan fired, that run D. CB's aren't fixing that.

If he wasn't one of our top choices, then we are idiots!!!

I personally think DEN screwed up badly not taking him. Reached for need. Car too.

Gnats were going WR, and that was a perdy sure deal.

It was considered one of the wonkiest D drafts in years and I can't blame teams for need picks. That's like Belichick and his CB picks, he was going to keep picking them until he got it right and decided the FA route was the best to take.

The question is how many really good A CB's are there in the league? Bunch of B's and C's so getting a B isn't bad. We got Diggs and he looks like a potential B. I do not think Horn or Surtain are A's but they were the pick of the litter since Farley had that back and Joseph had ?'s about his transfer from a usual A college D to a C one.

If the reason is because they wanted to move him to S and he wanted to remain at the much higher compensated CB position, that's a good reason. The difference is millions of dollars and not many S's get drafted to be CB's.

I think the problem with some posters is that the memory of Parsons' play is distant but I sure as hell recall that Cotton Bowl, he was a one man wrecking crew.

I think he was one of our top choices but he wasn’t our top choice. They were both taken right in front of us and why we took the trade down which was a good move and pick after the fact.

And it definitely could turn out to be fortunate. But to say how it ended up was the plan going in goes against everything coming out of the Star and beat writers. That’s all I was saying.
