Awesome Jerry for sharing your knowledge -They wanted one of the corners then traded down once they weren't there end of story.
I’m glad you have such Insidr knowledge

You are prolly right.I think he was one of our top choices but he wasn’t our top choice. They were both taken right in front of us and why we took the trade down which was a good move and pick after the fact.
And it definitely could turn out to be fortunate. But to say how it ended up was the plan going in goes against everything coming out of the Star and beat writers. That’s all I was saying.

I'd love to know how any Cowboy fan who complained about Jaylon Smith and LVE all last year would have a problem with the Parsons pick.....Joe why was Parsons a mistake?.....very interested to hear your view?
Mlb is much more important than CB. Not really close, IMO.Corner is the more important, prime position so I agree, they wanted one of the two corners first. However, that doenst mean they didnt have Parsons as the best defensive player on the draft. You can tell they were dead set on corner because they reached for one in the 2nd. At least risk wise.
There was no risk. Philly didn't want him we knew Smith was there target. NY coulda taken him I guess but if that happened then I bet they'd already been in contact with Chicago who it was evident wanted the QB. Maybe a risk but pretty remote one. NY wanted Smith too and once he was gone then the trade back with Chicago. You don’t trade down for a third to risk losing the guy you wanted all along
Giants were going WR, that was pretty close to a cinch. There was no risk. Philly didn't want him we knew Smith was there target. And all the chatter was about which one of the CB's because there wasn't a reason to let their real intentions be known. MP was bantered about some but only because he was the best defensive player in the draft. Dallas' percieved need was CB so that was an easy sell that one of the CB's was their target. Denver sure bit when there wasn't a real need for them.Mlb is much more important than CB. Not really close, IMO.
Yes, that could've happened. Which is why a team always needs a plan B, C, and P. (For Panic!!!!)Cowboys didn’t know Giants wouldn’t trade back with someone who coveted Parsons and wanted to jump Dallas to get him
Bouye has been terrible, so I'd guess he needs replacing. And all the chatter was about which one of the CB's because there wasn't a reason to let their real intentions be known. Do you think Dallas had already been contacted by Chicago earlier (and Philly too) and knew that if they traded back pretty much how those next 3 picks would go? I think this is the exact scenario. Chicago was chompin at the bit to get their QB. I'd be willing to bet they'd talked to teams ahead of Dallas too. People weren't going to jump and give up capital for Parsons but yep, for the QB, everything is in play. JMHO of course.Cowboys didn’t know Giants wouldn’t trade back with someone who coveted Parsons and wanted to jump Dallas to get him
Parsons was evaluated as the best defensive player entering the 2021draft from the numerous opinions I viewed. He was the first selection on defense in probably 80 - 85% of all the mock drafts (with the Lions or Broncos being the teams making that pick). At first, I thought it was nothing more than the usual spin from the front office trying to make themselves look good but the more I see this unfolding, I think that's a fact.
How does a CB help a defense that struggles against the run? Quinn was hired to fix that first and when the Legion of Boom was assembled, SEA already had a solid run defense.
Look at how Quinn devotes his time, he's all about the front 7 because that's where the leaks are.
There wasn't a DL ranked in the top 15 that could help with stopping the run, which is unusual for any draft, so what's the next best thing? A tackling machine MLB. A fast tackling machine MLB.
I don't think the Cowboys get him at 12 if he plays in 2020. His last college game was the Cotton Bowl where he was MVP with 14 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles and he is the first player in Penn State history to lead the team in tackles as a freshman and he only started 1 game. Let that sink in.
If you were apprehensive about this pick, you might want to revisit his last full season at the most famous college for LB's in history. That season was so special with just about every individual honor a player could get that he could afford to opt out in 2020 and still be regarded as a top 10 pick. I think if he plays in 2020, he's the first non QB off the board.
Every great Dallas D had that guy, that MLB that led the team in tackles, made drive stopping plays and lifted the D around him and I am not saying Micah Parsons is that guy but this team has to have that guy so taking him makes perfect sense to me. Because until we do find that guy, we do not field a true contender defense to play in January.
Parsons was a mistake.
Why do you say that? Not saying you are wrong - or right - just wondering what makes you think he was a mistake.Parsons was a mistake.
When Sean Lee finally retired..that sealed it. And when the two CBS were off the board..that ended any suspense. It has little to do with Quinn. Assuredly he needed a LBer for more backing the DL. DB was clearly our #1 need. No smokescreening. We told everybody what our priorities were..it was obvious. At first, I thought it was nothing more than the usual spin from the front office trying to make themselves look good but the more I see this unfolding, I think that's a fact.
