Feel free to wait until the first game of the 2010 College Season.

Still doesn't change the fact that Texas lost and the "What if" scenarios will never be answered.

Alabama was a better team and that is why they are National Champions.
well thanks. I'd have to say a sports forum with no what ifs doesn't exist and never will.

Yes, as stated before, there is no question the Longhorns were at a disadvantage with Colt McCoy going down and their Center going down.

But again, one can argue that Colt McCoy was knocked out of the game because of the Alabama Defense.

Personally, I believe the UT Coaching staff and his father should have let him play in that game.

And you base him returning to the game on what? He had a sprained shoulder

obviously the refs should have stopped the game and let Colt go out on the 50 yard line and prove to world that he was hurt by not being able to throw the ball.

Still think Bama wins since Saban is a better game coach. But it could go either way.

Are we talking about the same coach who fake punted on 4th and 23 from his own 20 yard line???

Are we talking about the same coach who went for a 52 yard field goal instead of backing up a true freshman inside the 10?

Saban looked like an idiot last night.

I'm not a huge Texas fan, but with a healthy Colt, the Longhorns ROLL over Alabama. The score was 24-21 late in the 4th before the freshman fumbled and threw a pick. All of this with a true freshman? In a National Championship game?

The Longhorns beat down Alabama with Colt. No doubt in my mind.

That being said, I question Colts toughness. He said he felt no pain. Just numbness. This is the NC game. YOU PLAY UNLESS YOU HAVE AN ARM FALLING OFF. Shoot it up, do whatever you have too, but you get in that game.
You could make an argument that at National Championship is more impressive than a SB win. YOU PLAY THE GAME.

I see Colt on the sideline, MOVING HIS ARM ABOVE HIS HEAD, laughing it up with Vince Young, and generally looking pretty healthy. YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.

I lost alot of respect for that kid last night.

I think it is stupid to question what some do not know. Colt should have returned? Based on what? Texas based it on what the doctors and coaches were saying.

I didn't see that.

Very interesting.

The guy said he wanted to play but ultimately the Coaching Staff and probably his dad overruled him.

You saw the play, Bama did nothing spectacular there...it was just a freak angle. It could just as easily been Baylor's defense or any other game. Bad luck on a somewhat normal failed play. He got a badly pinched nerve and lost the use of his arm...completely lost it. It was a real flukey thing, but stuff happens. Later he could move his arm but had no strength in it at all.

I remember when Miami lost McGahee in the title game, so bad luck happens. I would argue that McCoy was even more valuable to UT, but that's beside the point. Stuff happens...it's life.

I agree. Texas losing their QB who had lead them to 45 wins more than any QB in college football was big but stuff happens and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Imagin if the Colts lose Manning what do their chances look like?

It's tough to tell, because I think Bama relaxed after getting such a big lead and having the backup QB play so ineptly for the first half.

They got caught back on their heels when Texas started making their comeback, and it took them a bit to recover, but then they did. If Colt never goes out, who knows what Bama's mindset would have been.

The biggest thing that would have been different is that I think Texas would have scored at least one, maybe two, touchdowns on those opening drives, and that would have made a big difference.

In the end, though, injuries happen, and it's tough to play the "what if" game... I mean, what if Bradford wouldn't have gotten knocked out of the Red River Shootout? It's pretty clear OU would have won that game handily and Texas wouldn't have even been playing last night. ;)

I have never called anyone out for not sucking it up and playing in my life. Until last night.

The only reason not to play is if there was a broken bone.

The fact that he said there was no pain meant there was no ligament damage either. If there is ligament damage, TRUST me, there is pain.

I'm not saying the kids arm wasn't numb, but you play through it. Even if he can't throw the ball very good, there is still the THREAT of him throwing. That alone would have probably been better than throwing a true freshman tot he wolves and letting him hand the ball off for 2.5 quarters like the Texas coaches did.

So if you're a NFL GM, and you want Colt or Bradford, who do you choose this morning??? The kid who comes back from a broken collarbone too early to compete against the Longhorns, and breaks it again, or the kid who is in the national championship game and comes out because his arm feels numb?

No brainer.

I agree with this.

They saw that the Freshman was rattled early and probably got a little over-confident.

I am not familiar with that injury but I saw where he said that though it didn't hurt, he had no feeling in his arm.

I am not privy to all the information but Colt McCoy wanted to play.

Not sure if he should have been shutdown so quickly, don't know.

If you don't have respect for Colt, then you probably never did.

Wasn't Colt's call. Colt said he wanted to play and Mac said Colt wanted to play. The decision was not his. Simple as that.

From what I recall you already thought this before the game (as I did)....but really we can both agree that without Colt McCoy, Bama was the better team. Nobody knows otherwise.

As others have said, its a question that nobody really can answer, just speculate on.

That said the reason I liked Alabama was because they had the best defense in the nation. Texas played two games against teams that had legit defenses, and with Colt McCoy playing in both of those games (and looking basically inept) they lost. I dont see what would have been that much different.

Texas lost because they couldnt run the ball (as has been the case all yr) and they played a team with a legit running game, and couldnt stop that.

That is pretty much it. It happened Texas fought hard I was glad to see that. Gilbert played well given the situation he was forced into and give me hope that with the off season program Texas has he will be ready to take over next season.

All in all I was disappointed in the loss but I was very proud of this team for the way they hung in there and fought to the end.

I really disagree with you on this one. If left up to Colt, I am 100% sure that he would have played in the game he had been dreaming about his entire life. Look no disrespect CW, but I REALLY feel you are out line to have no inside knowledge of this situation and then throw out a guys entire history by insinuating that this guy is somehow all of a sudden not tough or has no heart or is somehow not all in for the team.

That, imho, is totally preposterous.

Now as for Bradford vs McCoy as a pro...right now I'd give the edge to Bradford....but I'll have a better idea in a few months.

Texas Oline was providing some good protection in that game. Up until the sack on a CB blitz that Gilbert failed to pick up. Texas gave up 1 sack on over 40 passing plays
