If Columbo is our starting RT who do you keep in reserve at tackle?

Hopefully Pettiti to be the swing tackle, he's young and has no big contract to worry about and can be developed. You can release Fabini and hopefully leave him on speed dial just in case.
I think we go long on tackles and short on guards. We'll keep five tackles, three guards, and two centers. We'll keep Adams, Columbo, Pettiti, Fabini, McQuistan at tackle.

I agree. Besides, didn't McQuistan play guard in college? I would assume that he or Al Johnson could fill in if times were desperate, and we know that Procter can play both sides.

BP has some versatility on this line. My guess is he carries ten, but only dresses 7 for each game - Adams, Kosier, Gurode, Rivera, Columbo, Pettiti, and Johnson.

More from the Colombo files...
After complimenting my green Adidas ClimaCool shirt, Colombo talked about his desire to start. The former first-round draft choice for the Bears has a strong desire to play against his old team in the playoffs.

"I would love that," he said.

After going through pain re-habilitation from a major knee injury, Colombo was released by the Bears last year.

He appears to have the upper hand over veteran Jason Fabini for the starting right tackle spot. In fact, I don't think Fabini will make this team.

Second-year player Rob Petitti could be the swing tackle behind Flozell Adams and Colombo. Cory Procter will backup right and left guard and Al Johnson will back up center. The Cowboys like what D'Anthony Batiste has done, but he might be a practice squad candidate.

thank you, I was hoping I wasn't the only one noticing that McQ and Pettiti, NOT Fabini, are practicing as the swing OTs, one of the 2 reasons Fabini came here in the 1st place

Fabini has to win the RT job, or we keep 9 lineman

The truth is if we lose Flozell, Bledsoe's gonna need a bodyguard and some good life insurance. It is the one loss that could completely derail everything.

you are correct sir, let's hope last year was an anamoly

I can go along with only keeping 9, but I still think that 8 of them dress.

You have your five starting lineman, and Al Johnson, Cory Procter, and another tackle.

Carrying 10 is unlikely, but dressing 8 is unheard of.

Didn't Parcells dress eight most of the time last year?

I don't think BIll wants to run the risk of someone claiming McQuistan off waivers

BIll will let Fabini walk, and have him in limbo like he did with Adrian Murrell in case of an injury to one of the starting OTs, IMO of course
I think you are right. Moreover, if Fabini is not on the roster at the start of the regular season, his salary for the year is not guarenteed.

a team intrigued by BP's praise of McQ will snatch him up to see what the buzz is about

I disagree. To take him off our PS they have to put him on their final 53. THat's a big chance for a 7th round pick who nobody knew anything at all about a few months ago other than he has a twin brother who is better, and who you haven't seen play all camp.

And although he was solid last night, he had some big hiccups against NO.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he goes to the PS and stays there.

I'm keeping McQuistan over Fabini at this point based on what each means to the team in the future.

What if you could keep both by having Fabini on the 53 and McQ on the PS?

Fabini is history.

And McQ won't be exposed to to waivers-- he's made the team.

That may be true and that scares the heck out of me. He's the best back up RT (and quite possibly the best backup LT) we have right now.

Theo- please give up on the "McQuistan to the PS" stuff. It ain't happening. McQuistan is on this team period.

He may be... now. But honestly he hasn't exactly set himself apart from the other tackles. That being the case, leads me to want to give the younger guys (with more upside) the first shots at a roster spot.
