So the answer is to just make Dak the highest paid player in the history of this league???

NO.
A few members here are afraid of moving on due to the unknown. The phrase 'who do you replace him with' is constantly thrown out there as an excuse for sticking with status quo. They would rather cave and pay Dak whatever he wants and not face the chance of his replacement losing a couple more games a season.

The same excuse was used in an attempt to keep Garrett on the payroll. OMG, we can't let Garrett go because his replacement might be worse.

It's ridiculous reasoning. We MUST keep Dak because his replacement might be worse, even though he's a proven loser against top teams. But you might find the next Mahomes out there too, though you will never know if you keep sticking with status quo out of fear of the unknown. Grow a pair already...

They made the same doom predictions about replacing Romo and yet that was easy.

I’m just saying the Cowboys mgmt hasn’t planned well for this situation. They could have placed themselves in a much better situation.

Since they haven’t it makes the decision that much more difficult. Are you willing to basically risk becoming a non playoff team until you acquire or draft and develop another Franchise QB with a roster built to contend now.

Even if they resign Id begin drafting a heir apparent which opens up possibilities to trade Prescott if the up and coming QB develops quickly.

Each time in Cowboys history we’ve gone without a heir apparent Franchise caliber QB in place we’ve gone years without being competitive until we found or drafted and developed our next Franchise QB.

If Dak leaves?

Don’t know what the destination will be, or the dollar amount associated, but I’ll wager there will be a few on this board drowning their sorrows while listening to the following:

Replace the word “Girl” in the song with “Dak” and it’s spot on.

We actually should do both. If our ownership had better prepared we could already had our heir apparent developing making this a much easier decision.

While I understand Prescotts limitations this playoff caliber roster is built to contend now.

It turned out to be easy only because we witnessed Romo’s heir apparent in place.

This is where our ownership has failed us. They knew Prescott was a tough negotiator from last contract. We’ve had 3 or 4 years to draft and develop a heir apparent.

Personally I’m not attached to Prescott anymore than I was Romo. But who provides us the best opportunity to advance now in the playoffs .

The long term answer is drafting and developing a heir apparent . When we’ve done this the results have been more favorable.

Each time in Cowboys history we’ve gone without a heir apparent Franchise caliber QB in place we’ve gone years without being competitive until we found or drafted and developed our next Franchise QB.

I understand that fans are very frustrated after last years playoff debacle and lack of deeper runs in the playoffs with Prescott.

And while it would be in our best interest to move on at some point I’d advise to draft and develop a heir apparent.

This team is built to contend now. Not in 3 or 4 years which is usually how long it takes to find and develop your next Franchise QB if you can.

Perhaps our ownership deserves to be a bottom tier team for a few years for not planning better for Prescotts successor.

And I doubt our ownership since they haven’t planned well for this decision are probably not ready to start over without a viable replacement in place .

We’ll see. Maybe if they let Dak walk we will trade Parsons for a 1st round pick and we can move up in draft next year. That’s a plan I could get on board with.

But I’m about having a plan. Currently we don’t have one .

On the serious though, unlike some of the people that feel like I do, I realize that there will be some pain if Dak departs......the only question is will it be short or long term.

It all depends if Jerry thinks he's getting true value for 60 million plus per.
I sure as hell hope it’s like the transition from Romo to Dak and not the transition from Aikman to Romo. I don’t think I can sit through that again.

If Dak walks after this year, he'll be in San Francisco on the first day of the new league year with the largest contract in NFL history.

Key an eye on .....

* The Saints are likely to move on from Carr after this season
* Just recently read Mayfield's 2 years deal with the Bucs gives them an out after this if he flops
* Jets I agree .....this is likely Rodgers last year if they don't win the Super Bowl
* Seahawks ........considered moving on from Geno this year but didn't like their options

I'm willing to bet a red penny France can peel off at least 2-3 teams who would sign Dak today if he was available. This IMO is why he's in no hurry to sign an extension.
Saints and Jets are probably dead because of what they're already paying QBs, but Seattle is a good one.

Add LAR, too.

Everybody thinks that Dak has all the leverage. Actually what the Cowboys should do is not re-sign Dak. On one hand, if the Cowboys win a SB with Dak this season, Dak's price tag will be so ridiculous that there would be no way they could re-sign him and keep a competitive team around him for future SBs. On the other hand, if Dak doesn't win a SB, then Cowboys fans aren't going to want him back. Either way, the Cowboys should move on regardless of what happens this season.
Letting a QB who just won a Super Bowl walk is the dumbest thing imaginable lol

Why would SF ever sign Dak? They have Purdy and you've had players from that team effectively state something to the effect that 'we wanted to make Dak beat us' in post game interviews after they win.

Because Dak is way better than Purdy and they're both going to get basically the same money after this season anyway.

Yea...no they didn't. They said stop the run - that's an indictment of the playcalling, not the QB play.
