If he maintains his level of play, would you sign Claiborne to Kareem Jacksons contract

So, who replaces him? Would you rather keep Carr, the corner that is truly getting shredded?

Let's be honest, neither Mo or Carr are irreplaceable. IIRC, Carr has been rated as one of the most overplayed CBs in the league considering that he has been a below average starting corner. Mo has been a bust and he has only started studying film and playing with motivation in this contract year. They can be replaced in the draft or signing an average CB in free agency would help with the salary cap and it will probably result in better secondary play. This is a chance to correct s very bad FA signing and a very bad draft pick during the same offseason.

Claiborne certainly wouldn't be the first young player to finally have things click for him once he matured some both mentally and physically. Speaking for myself, I would need to see it for the entire season before I thought about making a contract offer to him.

He has been playing pretty well and is much better than he's ever been before, so there is a chance he makes it. He just needs to continue to play well and improve as the season goes on.

Okay, then who? You have the list of FA, and it's not a very big list. Who do you replace those two with? White isn't a viable replacement, Scandrick is not a #1 corner, and Byron Jones doesn't look to be ready to take on a larger role any time soon. So, we go to the draft. Have you seen the cornerbacks coming out of this draft class?

If Mo continues to play at a high level, he immediately becomes the most valuable cornerback in FA and he'll only be 26. I agree, if he's asking for too much, let him walk. But if you can get him at a reasonable contract, (Some of what is being mentioned here is not "reasonable") you sign him. We have a limited window to get a Super Bowl, we can't be messing around and just putting any CB in the backfield.

Big test for him in the next two weeks. I'm actually kinda hoping he gets to go up against Cooks to see how he does, though Cooks is a little hobbled I'm reading.

Madden 16 has Claiborne as the 103rd best corner in the league. They are pretty close in accounting for players strength and weaknesses. Even if they are off by a little, being ranked 103rd is no Bueno.

We won't get rid of two of our top three cb's with the third coming back from knee surgery. If Mo keeps playing at this level or close to it he will have the upper hand going into contract discussions with anyone. And Carr cut his own throat when he didn't restructure his deal.

If we sign Claiborne to an extension they will throw away any progress they have made in the FO.

Claiborne was an overpay from the start and we have been counting down the days until he is gone. He quit on the teams before getting hurt last year, again.

Let someone else overpay him for a half decent year, if he can keep it up. I would rather get a guy that can at least tackle.

The FO has made progress by way of getting rid of older players and building through the draft. At some point you have to develop the talent on your roster and after that pay that talent. I'm not saying JJ should overpay anyone but if Mo keeps this up he will get paid. And I would take his upside over anything I have ever gotten from Carr.

it isn't getting rid of older players, it is picking the right ones to extend.

we got burned in the past with MBIII, Austin, Hamlin, RW11, RW31, Free, Ratliff2
we did well with DWare, Witten, Romo, Ratliff1, Church, OScan

guys like Claiborne gotta go. too expensive with too many red flags. I would rather take my chances with another early round pick than throw away 20m.

Carr can go too unless he takes a 50% pay cut.

He's not going to be too expensive at all. With how our cap is going to be in next couple years, we'll be fine if we resign him.

And getting rid of our top 2 CBs is asking for more trouble than the cap hit we'd get from resigning Mo.

Are you ******* serious right now? You're actually using a freaking video game as a premise for your argument? Mo has been terrific this season. Saying he's the 100th ranked corner is laughable. The dude has been battling injuries his whole career and was asked to play predominately zone coverage which isn't his strength. He absolutely blanketed Odell Beckham Jr. and did a solid job on Julio Jones until they started moving him around. He's given up zero big plays this year.
