If Parsons wants 30 million per year are you paying him?

I would trade him.
I would surely shop him to test the market or they could end up with another Ware situation. He had to go to a team that knew how to build a real defense.

The other wrinkle in this is where is Quinn going to end up next season?

And one more wrinkle. Is Parsons of the same mind that Elliott was when they exercised the 5th year option and he held out?

The one thing that doesn't matter at all is what team were he and his family fans of before he got drafted. Money talks, everything else is silent in the NFL.

You'll never get 5 years out of him. If he has another great year in 23, he'll pull a Zeke and demand a new contract after 3 years. You know Jerry will crack.
You can't get a new contract after 3 years. You get an extension. Which starts on your 6th year if you have a 5th year option. That is exactly what happened with Zeke.

You don’t technically have to pay Micah for another 5 seasons.

2 years on his contract, 5th year option, with two years of franchising if needed.

I don’t know why people freak out about this now
This isn't better for the cap hits. Isn't the goal to be as cap friendly as possible? Everyone complained about Zeke's contract, yet in the 7 years he was here, only one year was a bad cap hit. If they FT Parsons twice, that's back to back big cap hits.

Depending on the Cowboys season, Quinn could end up head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

I don't believe it's easy to hold out anymore. But I don't think Parsons would have to hold out. I think Jerry will sign him to an extension. If they intend to sign him, you want to do it as soon as possible because of the rookie years left on his contract. That's two extra years to spread out the cap hit.

They tried that with Prescott and he didn't have as much light shining on him as Parsons does.

As much as Parsons seems to like the spotlight and seeks it out, he will want to be the highest paid D player in history and he is special, no doubt about that.

The problem, as I see it, isn't the contracts to players like Prescott, it is what they fail to do with the rest of the team and the cap is used as a convenient excuse.

They tried what with Prescott? Tried to sign him early? The fact remains that they didn't, and they lost that one rookie year to play with. Plus I think they kind of lowballed him. They weren't sure. It was similar to the Daniel Jones situation. But most really good players either get extensions or are traded after their 3rd or 4th season.

Here’s what I expect from Parsons’ future contract:
  • The price for a star player is always going to stretch the market- not meet it.
  • Micah Parsons will expect to be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. And he will get it. Either here or somewhere else. Mark it.
  • Expect the usual “yada-yada” from Stephen Jones about “the Cowboys don’t set the market” right before they set the market.
  • Most fans don’t understand that NFL players should absolutely get the most amount of money they can while they can. Their careers are always one moment away from being over. Owners are still making billions and can for a lifetime- a player has just a few years.
  • NFL player contracts are constantly moving upward set by the market. The dollar amounuts are always going to be relative.

Jerry just has to keep pushing that money forward with Dak. If they pay Parsons, Dak can't be a big cap hit. He's 11.5% of the cap now. They need to keep it around there.

These huge salaries always set off the fans. What is actually the truth is we can’t visualize how we can put together real solid teams when you’re paying a quarterback 40 million or better a corner back, edge, left tackle, and so on. It’s more than inflation it’s entertainment driven supply demand. Maybe the other part is the fans perception and jealousy I know Iam

Then he holds out.

If Parsons continues to play at his current level he has 100% of the leverage imo.

He’s the best non- QB in the NFL.
He really can't hold out. But 5 years and franchise twice would be a disaster. It doesn't save us anything. It makes things worse, and you have a disgruntled player.

Would you resign him for that amount? I have a feeling thats what he is going to be asking for. Lets also assume he continue to play like he has played up until now.
Probably not that much. Maybe around 25 to 27

But yes you pay him. He is the type of defender you build around. One that every opposi g offe se has to game plan for. He makes everyone else better.

Yes, like do a long term now so you structure it backloaded while you actually have other players on a great D, we can worry about 2027 when this team fails....you want to see him wearing green and wrecking our offense twice a year?

They should listen.

After what Jamaal Adams got traded for I’d have to think Parsons could potentially bring in one of the bigger non QB hauls we’ve ever seen.

He would never just leave without Dallas being compensated.

Hypothetically, lets say Parsons can get 3 first round picks. It's not the same as the Walker trade back in 1989. There is a salary cap. A GM has to know what they're doing with these picks and make sure they don't all hit the cap at the same time. I'm not sure Jerry has much experience with that. He's good just sitting there and making basic picks or less. Like any of us would do. But managing a bunch of high end picks? I'm not so sure.

Parsons a no-brainer as long as he can stay healthy. I think the more interesting question is Diggs. Good corners make a lot. And we pay him along with Dak, Ceedee (because I think he proved he's worth it this last season) and Parsons. Digg's third year will probably determine this.
