If we make the playoffs is there a point?

Dallas hasn't shown the ability to get hot like the teams you listed. As pointed out in a previous post, the Cowboys are not that good against teams with winning records. Sure anything can happen, but Dallas has been the team that it is least likely to happen to. Winning a very weak NFCE division with a 8-8 or 9-7 record does nothing to excite me. I have read thread after thread and post after post about this team being different from the last couple of years, yet the reality is that this is an average team with an average record. Actually, this is an average team that has little success against a team with a winning record. They sure have little chance of beating three teams with winning records.

They haven't shown they can get hot? Its the middle of the season. I'd agree if this was week 16 and we were 8-8 but as of right now we have won 2 of our last 3 games. Who knows if the team we see now is the team we see in week 17 is all i'm saying.

exactly that is why you play the games. Dallas can't do anything about the past seasons they are done and over with, what they can control is what is ahead of them.

+1

Anyone trying to write this team off based on past seasons are playing themselves. If they once again can't peak in the post season or in December and they miss out on the post season? It won't be because of past seasons. All new season here.

Say we back into the division title. Is there even a point. Our DB's can do jack and our Offense can't capitalize on the turnovers we do get.

Depends. If we win 7 or 8 games and win the division, most likely we will get spamked by a real playoff team. If by some miracle which I do not foresee we become a consistent team and say go 5-2 down the stretch and hit the playoffs at 10-6 I think we will have the confidence of a real contender and have a chance to do something....If if if if my aunt had ..never mind.

Maybe but then maybe not we played Denver to a 3 point game and KC to a 1 point game. I don't see where we have been spanked by anyone.

The good news is you have a chance. As Wayne Gretzky once said 'you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.' I also think the experience is good for the players and coaches.

My worries is that either Jerry and Co. will rest on their laurels or start to think that they are '1 player away from winning the SB.' This team still has a lot of work to do. But, you can't mortgage your future for the hopes of getting that 1 player. This year we traded down in the draft and I think it worked wonderfully for us with Frederick, Williams, Wilcox, etc.

The bad part is that teams that win the division are *more likely to MISS* the playoffs the following year than make them. Since 1999, only 48% of division winners have made the playoffs the following year. There's a lot of things division winners have to overcome like a tougher schedule, teams in their division gunning for them, lower draft picks, lower waiver wire picks and teams more likely to pillage their roster.

Again, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. But, it's going to be a difficult road to hoe in 2014.

We don't beat good teams. Period. Playing them close is nice but we do not beat them. 4-19 under Garrett. And that is just over 500 teams, not playoff teams only.

What concerns me is I don't want this team making the playoffs at 7-9 or 8-8 losing at home, and Jerry saying we made progress making the playoffs, so I am not making changes.

Of course it is a concern but you still go out and play the game. Nothing is pre determined does not mean we will win but to just claim oh we will lose sorry I don't see it that way at all. You get there you have a chance what happened before means nothing and has no bearing on the game ahead of you. Outside of this message board I really have not been thinking playoff I have been thinking this team needs to improve starting with the game this sunday night vs New Orleans.

Nothing is predetermined, but the odds are not in your favor at 4-19.

Given the cap situation I don't see where Jerry will be going out to make 1 big trade. I think the last couple of drafts are producing and I think Dallas and Jerry will stay the course

Im glad someone gets it. Don't get me wrong but I love my boys, I want us to win every game. But I found something out between this year and lat year, we're and ok team. I dunno if Stephan A as got to me or what. Something is always wrong with us each year, either injuries or we cant run the ball or something it's always something. On my blog and even here every game we lose on Monday we make an excuse and the same excuse we make is the same one we use every time we lose. But something is wrong with this team and it aint the owner.

I agree, the owner is not the problem. The GM position is another matter. It comes a time when the reality has to sink in and it becomes clear that the pieces of the puzzle are not fitting together. Sometimes players just don't mesh well together to form a team that reflects their talent. Add in subpar coaching at certain times and the result is a talented team that just plays average football with average results.

We could also trade up in the draft looking for that 1 special player. That's what I fear more than anything.

Or we may stay put and draft a Felix Jones type of player that is more of 'icing on the cake' rather than foresee the other issues.

We really need to follow the 2013 draft plan, trade down and acquire more picks. It's not only a sound strategy to begin with, but we have a big influx of players that are at the end of their rope between Austin, Ware, Hatcher, Romo, Waters, etc.

IF we had a healthy Ware, Hatcher, Spencer and Waters- then maybe we would have a shot to go all the way.
But despite how well our replacements are playing on the D line, they just cannot make up the talent deficit. And already we are seeing what has happened to the O line with Waters gone.

Say we back into the division title. Is there even a point. Our DB's can do jack and our Offense can't capitalize on the turnovers we do get.

There are four reasons go get to the playoffs:

1.) We get at least one more week of Cowboys football before the seemingly endless off-season.
2.) We can't get a playoff win, a deep playoff run, or make it to the Super Bowl without getting into the playoffs.
3.) If we get to the Super Bowl, it means we have had a month more of Cowboys football and two or three three playoff wins. (That means we would never again have to hear the Boys have only won one playoff game since TLC was big.) Also, we will get to play in a Superbowl on Groundhog's Day, 2014. How great would that be? The first thing the groundhog would see when he pokes his head up is the Cowboys winning a Super Bowl. That would be historic.
